Hawaii’s Kilauea Volcano Destroys 26 Homes In Eruption

As lava continues to spew over 200 feet into the air, homes in Kilauea’s path continue to be destroyed.  The number of homes destroyed by lava shooting out of openings in the ground created by Hawaii’s Kilauea volcano has climbed to at least 26, and five other structures have also been destroyed.

Authorities have told CBS Honolulu affiliate KGMB-TV that Hawaiian officials say ten fissures have opened since Thursday and some of the more than 1,700 people who evacuated prepared for the possibility they may not be able to return for quite some time. “I have no idea how soon we can get back,” said Todd Corrigan, who left his home in Leilani Estates with his wife Friday as lava burst through the ground three or four blocks from their home. They spent the night on the beach in their car and began looking for a vacation rental to stay in for a longer term.

On Saturday, Amber Makuakane said she received alerts from her security system that motion sensors throughout the house had been triggered. She later confirmed that lava had covered her property. Makuakane, who 37 years-old, a teacher, and single mother of two, said her three-bedroom house in Leilani Estates was destroyed by the lava. Her home was across from one of the fissures that opened Friday, when “there was some steam rising from all parts of the yard, but everything looked fine,” Makuakane said.

Leilani Estates, where Corrigan, Mukuakane, and their families resided is a subdivision in the mostly rural district of Puna and is still at the greatest risk. But some residents have returned to the area affected by that lava flows.

According to CBS News, Hawaii County civil defense administrator Talmadge Magno said at a Sunday news conference that some residents did indeed go back to the area. He also stressed that anyone returning should wear a mask to reduce chances of breathing in any contaminants. Officials also warned about wearing the right masks, with a warning posted online.

Magno told CBS News correspondent Carter Evans it’s not known how long the volcanic activity will continue. “That’s the sad part about it,” Magno told Evans. “It could be happening for a long time, or on the other hand, like I said, mysteriously it could just end,” he said. “Unfortunately we are up to 26 residences taken out; There’s no sign of things slowing down,” Magno said earlier Sunday.

Hundreds of small earthquakes continued to rumble through the area Saturday, one day after a magnitude-6.9 temblor hit. That earthquake was the largest one to hit Hawaii in more than 40 years. Magma moving through Kilauea set off the earthquakes, said geologists, who warned of aftershocks.

 

Hawaii On Volcano Watch After Hundreds Of Earthquakes Spark Eruption Fears

Hawaii is on volcano watch after a series of earthquakes struck the island in less than 72 hours.  Hundreds of quakes were reported before the Kilauea Volcano was put on watch as a volcano that could potentially erupt.

The Kilauea Volcano is located in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which has since closed off nearly 15,700 acres due to “the possibility of a new eruption and unstable geologic activity.” But most of the park remains open, according to a statement released by the park.

Officials are now keeping a very close watch on the Kilauea volcano, which is one of the world’s most active while residents in the area are being urged to prepare an eruption and review emergency plans in case of evacuation, warned the Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency on Wednesday.

According to CNN, since Monday, hundreds of earthquakes (most of them around a 2.0 magnitude) have been recorded in the area. The series of earthquakes came after a collapse of a crater floor of Puʻu ʻŌʻō, which is a volcanic cone in the eastern rift zone of the Kīlauea Volcano.  Since that fateful collapse on Monday, about 250 earthquakes were reported in the area stretching into Tuesday evening, according to Hawaiian Volcano Observatory Status Report.

The tremors have been going on for days now, causing residents to fear an imminent eruption. Many residents have been reporting nearly constant ground vibrations in some areas. “It has now become unnerving,” Carol Shepard, a resident, told CNN affiliate KHON. She said the flurry of earthquakes seemed to happen every minute. “It’d be like the house would shake. It’d be like somebody that weighs 300 pounds came in my living room, and jumped up and down,” she said.

Although it’s impossible to determine if, let alone when an eruption would occur, scientists felt it was necessary to warn residents of the volcano’s recent activity.

The US Geological Survey said no steam or heat were seen escaping through the cracks. They added that the cracks were small, only about several inches across. These cracks are appearing from “deformation of the ground surface due to the underlying intrusion of magma,”  which is the molten rock that is underground, according to the agency.

“An outbreak of lava from the lower East Rift Zone remains a possible outcome of the continued unrest,” according to USGS in a Wednesday night update. “At this time it is not possible to say with certainty if or where such an outbreak may occur, but the area downrift (east) of Pu’u ‘Ō’ō remains the most likely location.”

Government computers illegally hacked Hawaii Dept. of Health

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Infowars.com has learned former Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s investigators had discovered bombshell evidence that the CIA and or other government entities illegally hacked into Hawaii Department of Health records searching for birth records on Barack Obama.

According to information received by the investigators, the government breaches began on Nov. 14, 2008, just after Obama won his first presidential election, and continued until Jan. 12, 2011, three months before the White House released a computer version of what President Obama claimed was his authentic “Long-Form Birth Certificate” from 1961.

Michael Zullo, formerly the commander and chief investigator of the Cold Case Posse (CCP), a special investigative group created in 2006 in the office of Joseph M. Arpaio, formerly the sheriff in Maricopa County, an Arizona State Certified Law Enforcement Agency, headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, provided Infowars.com sections of an electronic surveillance database created by whistleblower, Dennis Montgomery, in 2013.

The electronic surveillance database, provided to Zullo in late 2013  by a then-confidential informant, Dennis Montgomery, working with the sheriff’s office  was apparently created by the NSA as part of the NSA’s illegal and unconstitutional Project Dragnet electronic surveillance of U.S. citizens, first revealed by news reports published in 2005, as further documented by the revelations of whistleblower Edward Snowden in 2013.

As Infowars.com reported in June, the decision of a federal court to take the case of former contractor Dennis Montgomery advances the story Infowars.com reported in March that the National Security Agency illegally conducted surveillance of potentially millions of citizens for years, with a database that suggests both Donald J. Trump and Alex Jones were under unauthorized government monitoring.

Represented by well-known conservative attorney Larry Klayman, Montgomery ultimately turned over to the FBI 47 hard drives including information he supplied to Zullo concerning Obama’s fraudulent birth certificate and highly classified information he had removed from the NSA.

 As reported by Circa on June 6, 2017, Montgomery divulged to the FBI “a pattern and practice of conducting illegal, unconstitutional surveillance against millions of Americans, including prominent Americans such as the chief justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, other justices, 156 judges, prominent businessmen, and others such as Donald J. Trump, as well as Plaintiffs themselves.”

Montgomery and Klayman are now involved in a federal lawsuit that Circa reported is being heard in U.S. District Court “by the same federal judge who has already ruled that some of the NSA’s collection of data on Americans violates the U.S. Constitution’s Fourth Amendment, setting up an intriguing legal proceeding in the nation’s capital this summer.”

On Dec. 15, 2016, Arpaio and Zullo held a press conference releasing the results of a multiple-year forensic investigation concluding the computer image that Barack Obama released on April 27, 2011, of his alleged Long-Form Birth Certificate (LFBC) was a forgery.

The evidence Arpaio and Zullo have now released to Infowars.com strongly suggests the CIA played a role in the forgery.

CIA breaches Hawaii government computers in Obama birth certificate quest

Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Investigator Zullo have identified in the database the following breaches of known Hawaii government IP [Internet Protocol] address accessed by known CIA IP addresses that were used in the breaches:

Other data indicates the CIA also breached the University of Hawaii’s extensive records on Hawaii history and genealogy.

The IP addresses, both from the Hawaii government offices breached and from the CIA proxy IP addresses used in the breaches.

“Montgomery also traced the IP data paths of the breached servers and discovered on a number of occasions information was sent from the breached Hawaii computers, only to be routed to a sever located in Jakarta, Indonesia,” Zullo said.

From Indonesia, the data was sent back through the server in Jakarta, routed back to government servers in the United States.  Montgomery claims the server used in Jakarta was operated by the CIA at the time the breaches were executed.”

Montgomery brought forward to Arpaio and Zullo the information presented here regarding the CIA breaches of Hawaii government computers that Montgomery alleges was collected while he was employed as a subcontractor for the NSA, working on PROJECT: SPEARIT and various surveillance projects.

Court documents do verify Montgomery was contracted by the NSA, in part to develop computer breaching software that has been utilized in government mass surveillance operations targeting American citizens without legal justification.

While Montgomery’s credibility has been called into question, Zullo maintains that the amount of information provided by Montgomery related to Operation Dragnet was extraordinarily voluminous and that Montgomery had shared information with investigators in 2013 that is only now being revealed by media outlets.

CIA computer breach linked to forging of the Obama birth certificate

Zullo explained to Infowars.com that when Montgomery first brought this information regarding the CIA breaching the Hawaii government offices to investigators in 2013, the information was considered a “universe shattering” discovery, especially when this information was paired with other information Arpaio’s investigator already had collected prior to 2013 but had yet to reveal.

In specific, while investigating in Hawaii, Zullo had received specific information a person connected to top officials in the Hawaii Department of Health alleging that prior to the release of Obama’s Long-Form Birth Certificate by the White House on April 27, 2011, the Hawaii Department of Health was in the process of forging a birth certificate for Obama.

Additionally, Arpaio’s investigators sent to Hawaii were told that this same person had validated to trusted sources that an Obama birth certificate had been forged and that the attending physician named on the forged document was known to be deceased, and was believed to have destroyed all birth records after leaving practice.

According to this trusted source in Hawaii, a deceased physician with no known archived practice records was considered by forgers to be the ideal physician of record to name on the forged birth certificate manufactured for Obama.

Subsequently, Zullo also received credible information from two sources that two different independent hospital administrators in meetings held in 2008, as Obama was preparing to run for president, participated in searches of all hospital records on the island to identify which hospital was Obama’s birth hospital.

Both hospital administrators attested that no hospital in Hawaii had any records proving Ann Dunham Obama had been a patient, or that Barack Hussein Obama was born there.

“Queens Hospital was the hospital originally named by the Obama family as the birth hospital, but when it developed that Queens did not have records of Obama’s birth, the family shifted to story to claim Obama was born at Kapiolani Hospital, Zullo told Infowars.com.

“Queens Hospital quickly reported publicly that Obama was not born in their hospital,” Zullo continued.

“The admission of Queens Hospital that no birth record existed presented a serious problem for the already belabored Obama birth narrative,” Zullo said.

Kapiolani refused to comment neither confirming nor denying Kapiolani Hospital was Obama’s birth hospital,” he stressed.

“To date, Kapiolani has not produced a single shred of evidence that any original birth records exist, nor has Kapiolani Hospital ever produced any supporting documentation or released any information that proves Stanley Ann Dunham was a patient at Kapiolani in August 1961 who gave birth to a son, Barack Obama, supposedly born on Aug. 4, 1961,” Zullo insisted.

Adding further skepticism surrounding the validity of the Obama Certificate, was the fact that Hawaii Gov. Neil Abercrombie gave an interview to the Honolulu Star-Advertiser in 2011, announcing he had launched an investigation into the matter of Obamas birth record, promising he would be able to locate the original copy of Obama’s long-form birth certificate (LFBC) that he would subsequently make public.

As of 2011, Abercrombie did not report to the newspaper that he or the Hawaii Department of Health had found Obama’s Long-Form Birth Certificate.  To the contrary, he only suggested his investigations to date had identified a rather obscure listing or notation of Obama’s birth that someone had made in the state archives.

The governor only suggested his investigations to date had identified an unspecified listing or notation of Obama’s birth that someone had made in some unspecified archive.

“It was actually written, I am told, this is what our investigation is showing, it actually exists in the archives, written down,” Abercrombie said.

Zullo discounted Abercrombie’s 2011 claim.

“If Abercrombie’s allegation is to be believed, it is apparent that what Abercrombie claims to have discovered was an unspecified document or some type of written indication of Obama’s birth event that someone would have made over 50 years ago on a piece of paper found buried in some archive out of the customary chain of custody for official vital statistics birth records documents,” Zullo told Infowars.com.

Zullo stressed the achieved document Abercrombie claimed to have found has never been made public.

Zullo has many concerns about the validity purported document if it even exists.

“There has not been any type of verification of the story let alone the authenticity of the documents,” he said.

“This type of document could easily have been manufactured and inserted in records achieves for the sole purpose of becoming documentary evidence of a birth event, affording unsuspecting officials the ability to rely on it as evidence and ultimately create a newly minted birth record that did not exist in 1961 and did not exist before 2011,” Zullo continued.  “Hawaii statutes which are ripe for fraud and manipulation would permit such a situation.”

“What is clear from Abercrombie’s statements is the fact that he could not locate the original vital record at the Hawaii Department of Health, in other words, there was no Long-Form Birth Certificate located in the file vault at Hawaii Department of Health in 2011,” Zullo pointed out.

“Had an original Long-Form Birth Certificate existed for Obama, I would have thought Governor Abercrombie would have been able to locate it rather easily,”  Zullo concluded.

Zullo went on to point out that a written statement of former Hawaii Director of Public Health Dr. Chiyome Fukino issued in October 2008 cast further doubt that an original 1961 LFBC for Obama ever existed in the Hawaii Department of Health archives.

On Oct. 31, 2008, Fukino issued a statement that read in part:

“Therefore, I as Director of Health for the State of Hawaii, along with the Registrar of Vital Statistics who has statutory authority to oversee and maintain these type of vital records, have personally seen and verified that the Hawaii State Department of Health has Sen. Obama’s original birth certificate on record in accordance with state policies and procedures.

“No state official, including Governor Linda Lingle, has ever instructed that this vital record be handled in a manner different from any other vital record in the possession of the State of Hawaii.”

Again, Zullo was not convinced.

“That statement would indicate, if true, that Fukino simply walked in to the file vault at the Hawaii Department of Health, went to the shelf containing the bound book volume holding some 500 certificates including Obama’s, located it inside that bound book, touched it, and returned the bound volume back to its proper place, back on the shelf along with 500 others,” Zullo argued.

But for Zullo, the problem was Fukino’s and Abercrombie’s timeline.

“The problem here is that Fukino claims to have physically inspected the original birth certificate in 2008,” Zullo noted. “However, in 2011 some 3 years later Gov. Abercrombie goes on an exhaustive search to locate the same document, but it is nowhere to be found. It is not in the bound volume as in accordance with state policies and procedures. Somebody is lying.”

Zullo explained to Infowars.com that this investigatory background lent credence to Montgomery’s claims in 2013 that the CIA or some other government actors had covertly breached Hawaii government computers looking for original and authentic Obama birth records.

“The CIA breach would also enable the undetectable insertion of fraudulent digital information of a fictitious birth event to be surreptitiously implanted into the Hawaii Department of Health vital records computers database,” Zullo stressed.

“Once the fictitious record has been created that would allow an unsuspecting clerk to simply locate the fraudulent record in the computer database and print a computer-generated Short-Form Birth Certificate (SFBC) without ever verifying the existence of the original Long Form Certificate (LFBC) in the file room vault,” he explained.

“Hawaii did in fact originally produce a Short-Form Birth Certificate in 2008.  In an attempt to quell the growing controversy and to satisfy the questions surrounding the Obama birth narrative, a Short-Form was released in 2008 during Obama’s presidential campaign.” Zullo recalled.

“However, that was a digital record and not an original Long Form Birth Certificate. This did not satisfy the growing number of skeptics,” Zullo added.

“In various discussions with Montgomery, he suggested ‘three-letter agencies’ had the ability to not only hack into a computer network unnoticed and to download information out of that computer network undetected, but also had the ability to upload information into a computer, again undetected” Zullo explained.

“That upload capability would allow the implantation of completely fictitious or altered information at will,” he stressed.  “Once implanted, this would grant an unsuspecting clerk the ability to create and issue a Short-Form Birth Certificate that was retrieved from Hawaii Department of Health legitimate computers in accordance with Hawaii Department of Health procedures and customary practices.

Zullo explained Short-Form Obama Certificate generated from Hawaii Department of Health computer databases would give the public and more importantly the media the appearance of official authenticity, when in fact the unsuspecting clerk actually is retrieving a fraudulent record that is being generated from implanted fictitious information that now resides in a corrupted vital statistics database contained in Official Hawaii Department of Health computers.”

Zullo explained to Infowars.com that Montgomery has turned over this information along with 600 million records illegally obtained by the federal government to the FBI under an immunity agreement over 2 years ago.

“The Obama birth certificate information was included in the information Montgomery turned over to the FBI,” Zullo added. “The FBI has done nothing with Montgomery’s information for more than two years.”

Zullo stressed that Montgomery’s information does provide a possible scenario in which government operatives would have had the ability to inserted Obama’s birth records electronically into the Hawaii government official database by breaching the Hawaii government computers without detection of the intrusion.

While it may have been easy for the Hawaii Department of Health to produce a Short-Form Birth Certificate from the information now located in Hawaii’s electronic vital statistics database, the problem came when Obama was forced to produce his Long-Form Certificate of Live Birth.

Zullo concluded. “That’s when the White House released to the public via the internet a computer-generated PDF File of a purported Long-Form Birth Certificate claiming to be a copy of Obama’s birth records located in the Hawaii Department of Health vault on April 27, 2011.

This, in Zullo’s analysis, was Obama’s fatal mistake

“What the White House released was not a physical hard copy document. It was not a copy of any verified authentic document, it was absolutely nothing,” Zullo argued.  “It was a computer-generated PDF file containing a copy of something that had its metadata erased from the electronic file, making it impossible to determine origin and authenticity of the file.”

Because of this, Zullo insisted the PDF file released by the White House on April 27, 2011, as Obama’s legitimate Long-Form Birth Certificate has zero legal probative value and as such cannot be considered an official document created and certified by the issuing State as called for by statute.

“This PDF file cannot be relied on as proof a birth event in any legal setting,” Zullo insisted. “It is not paper, it was created in cyberspace and resides in a computer.  On April 27, 2011, Obama showed the nation and the world absolutely nothing.”

2016: Proof Obama’s Long-Form computer-generated birth certificate was forged

As noted above, on Dec. 15, 2016, Sheriff Arpaio and Chief Investigator Zullo held a press conference to announce the conclusion of their forensics investigation that established the long-form Hawaiian birth certificate that President Obama released in a White House press conference on April 27, 2011, was a forgery.

The White House had claimed the Long-Form Birth Certificate released on April 27, 2011, was a computer copy of the original Obama birth certificate, dated Aug. 4, 1961, that the Hawaii Department of Health has never released publicly, but claims to have in a Department of Health archives vault maintained in Honolulu.

At the press conference, Zullo showed a video of Obama’s birth certificate alongside one obtained from Johanna Ah’Nee that forensic experts said contained “nine points of forgery,” establishing that Obama’s Long-Form computer-generated birth certificate released by the White House on April 27, 2011, had been copied from Ah’Nee’s birth certificate.

North Korea Mocks The US: ‘Americans Are Trembling With Fear’

North Korea has pushed tensions to a new high in their recent mocking of the United States over the false missile alert accidentally issued by Hawaii. The tyrannical regime claims that Americans are “trembling with fear” in the wake of Hawaii’s mistake.

In case you haven’t heard by now, the state of Hawaii accidentally sent out an emergency alert which stated there was an incoming missile. Hawaiians were seen shoving their children in storm drains and in a state of panic until they were assured that the warning was a mistake. And now, North Korea is mocking the state of fear experienced by those living in the island state.

According to Fox News, in one of its typically bombastic statements, the state-run Korean Central News Agency scoffed at the U.S. for the January 13 alert Hawaii’s Emergency Management Agency accidentally sent out to residents stating a ballistic missile was heading to the island.

“The U.S.…is now on jitters, being seized by ‘fear of the north’s missiles.’ A ballistic missile threat warning was released throughout Hawaii, U.S. by a mistake recently,” Tuesday’s statement said. “It is none other than the U.S. which is trembling with fear, stricken by extreme horror and pressure even by a single message and by a flash in the sky.” 

“The mindset of the panic-stricken Americans is that the higher the level of confrontation with the DPRK [Democratic People’s Republic of Korea], the world-level nuclear power and a rocket power, the higher the level of disaster to be inflicted upon them,” the statement said.

The statement from North Korea also warned about a “higher level of disaster” that would be inflicted on Americans if officials within the United States engaged in any further confrontation with Kim Jong Un’s dictatorial regime.

North Korea is known for their outlandish statements.  They have once said that Donald Trump is sentenced to death for hurting the dignity of the supreme leadership of the DPRK. 

 

Claim: Hawaii Charter Boat Group Witnessed Explosion In The Sky On The Morning Of False Ballistic Missile Alert

A man’s sister told him a group of boaters witnessed an aerial explosion offshore around 8:00 a.m. last Saturday morning

SOUTH PACIFIC (INTELLIHUB) — A man posted a video to YouTube on Sunday in which he claims his sister, who lives on Maui, heard that a group of 9 tour boat guides and about 13 tourists witnessed some type of explosion in the sky about 100 NM offshore (leeward side.)

“They said it looked like a meteor and then all of a sudden it was a big boom and it lit up the entire sky,” he explained. “It was at eight o’clock in the morning.”

“Maybe this wasn’t a drill after all,” he said. “I would think that the United States would not want to cause more panic if they did launch something at Hawaii — they would say it was a mistake.”

The man also maintains that the story was posted by a local news outlet for a short period of time before it was “pulled” altogether.

So I live on Island and our family has a lighthouse, we all saw a bright flash that morning as well. There is much buzz about this… Thank you for actually putting what islanders are all talking about.

The video was posted one day after a false missile alert caused a panic throughout the islands.

The Pope’s WW3 Warning: The World Is At ‘The Very Limit’ Of Nuclear War

Pope Francis said on Monday he was really afraid of the danger of a nuclear war and that the world now stood at “the very limit.”  According to his comments, the world is one step away from a devastating nuclear war.

The Pope made the comment as he flew off for a visit to Chile and Peru, and the statement comes just after Hawaii issued a false missile alert that provoked panic in the U.S. state and highlighted the risk of possible unintended nuclear war with North Korea. The mistaken alert underscored the risk of potentially entering an unintentional war with North Korea. Hawaii Democratic Representative Tulsi Gabbard said Sunday that the false alert shows the need for direct negotiations with North Korea.

But when asked if he was worried about the possibility of nuclear war, Pope Francis said: “I think we are at the very limit. I am really afraid of this. One accident is enough to precipitate things.”

Although the Pope did not specifically mention Hawaii or North Korea, he did say that stockpiling nuclear weapons is against the teaching of the Catholic church. According to One America News Network, Pope Francis has often discussed the danger of nuclear warfare. Back in November, the Pope appeared to harden the Catholic Church’s teaching against nuclear weapons, saying countries should not stockpile them even for the purpose of deterrence.

As reporters boarded his plane bound for Chile, Vatican officials handed out a photograph taken in 1945 that shows a young Japanese boy carrying his dead brother on his shoulders following the U.S. nuclear attack on Nagasaki. “I was moved when I saw this. The only thing I could think of adding were the words ‘the fruit of war’,” Pope Francis said, referring to a caption put on the back of the image. “I wanted to have it reprinted and distributed because an image like this can be more moving than a thousand words. That is why I wanted to share it with you,” he said.

In photo blunder by the Hawaii Emergency Broadcast System, a password was revealed. In a photo released by the agency in July, a password can be seen stuck to a computer with a post-it note in the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency’s headquarters in Honolulu.

This government agency went so far as to brazenly display their password.  Media outlet Hawaii News Now reports that the agency’s password protection measures are now in the spotlight after a photo from the agency’s Honolulu headquarters appeared in news reports. Sharp-eyed readers noticed that a password was on a Post-It note stuck on a computer. Agency spokesman Richard Rapoza says the password was for an “internal application” that is no longer in use, not a “major piece of software.”

The agency says the alert was sent was because “an employee pushed the wrong button,” not because of a hack, but the photo has still rightly sparked criticism about the agency’s level of security. The agency has said a worker clicked the wrong item in a drop-down menu; sent the warning, and that its system was not hacked.

“It was a mistake made during a standard procedure at the changeover of a shift, and an employee pushed the wrong button,” Governor David Ige said. But if that truly was the case, it should be closed, right? Yet there’s an “ongoing” investigation into the employee who sent the alert.

At the very least, government incompetence is more than evident when looking at this photo.  But not only that, it helps prove to the regular, everyday American citizen that those who should be on the frontlines looking out for the public’s well-being don’t actually care much.  Like the rest of us, they just want a paycheck.

The emergency warning officer who accidentally sent Hawaii an incoming missile alert has been receiving death threats and is “not doing well,” says the executive officer of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency. Toby Clairmont told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser that the employee, a 10-year agency veteran, has received “dozens of death threats by fax, telephone, social media.” The worker, who has been reassigned to other duties, is “distraught that they’ve received death threats,” Clairmont says. “This is hard. What can be worse than this? Running over a child in a crosswalk and you realize you did it? It’s that kind of feeling,” he says. “This employee is not doing well. We need to help them, too.”

This accidental warning caused a massive panic in Hawaii, and people even put children in storm drains. 

The United States: United in a State of Un-Readiness

On Saturday, we witnessed a mistake (perhaps genuine and perhaps purposeful) regarding the emergency alert system in Hawaii. Yes, we know most of the parameters: the warning of an incoming missile, that it was “not a drill” was broadcast, and 38 minutes of panic.

First, the warning sent to cell phones: “BALLISTIC MISSILE THREAT INBOUND TO HAWAII. SEEK IMMEDIATE SHELTER. THIS IS NOT A DRILL.”  (Hawaii Emergency Management Agency)

After 40 minutes, another message rescinding the alert was sent out. Then, the usual “conga” line emerged after it was revealed to be a false alarm, and here are the statements proving these “authorities” (officials and other nabobs) are either cloned or made in the same mold:

“An investigation is underway, and it appears human error was responsible for the alert.  The alert was sent out by mistake during a shift change at the agency. Such shift changes occur three times a day every day of the year.  This is a day that most of us will not forget. I know this was totally unacceptable.” (David Ige, Governor, State of Hawaii)

“The FCC is initiating a full investigation. The agency (FCC) will vote at its January meeting to enhance the effectiveness of wireless emergency alerts, which have been in place since 2012.” (Ajit Pai, Chairman, US Federal Communications Commission)

“I take responsibility for what happened. We are doing everything we can to make sure this never happens again.” (Vern Miyagi, Administrator, Hawaii Emergency Mgmt. Agency)

And to finish the kicking for the “Rockettes,” the White House pointed the finger at the state of Hawaii to round things off, ensuring the audience knew no feds were involved before the curtain call:

“It was purely a state exercise.” (Lindsay Walters, White House Spokeswoman)

There you have it: Mr. Miyagi of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency…Mr. Miyagi, mind you…took responsibility (without being held accountable) and will make sure this never happens again. No sweat: Wax on, wax off.

That is simply business as usual for the establishment “caretakers,” continuing to reassure, continuing to calm, to placate, to promise… The reality comes from interviews conducted with the average citizens. A professional golfer (John Peterson) sent a phone message that he was hiding in a bathtub under a mattress with his wife, baby, and in-laws. Must’ve been a pretty big bathtub! Others ran to shelters that were locked, or simply stood around and tried to telephone others…family members or officials, to see if this was really happening.

I found a faded, sky-blue, cardboard-cover-jacketed book…little more than a pamphlet just over a year ago. It is SM 3-11-A, dated November 1966, entitled “Personal and Family Survival” by the Department of Defense and the Office of Civil Defense. The book is the Student Manual for the Civil Defense Adult Education Course, as printed on the cover. People could enroll in the course with the same name as the book’s title.

Now what do we have? Nothing. No “Civil Defense” agency, no courses for the average citizen. Courtesy of Bill Clinton (excuse me, President William Jefferson Clinton) in 1996…canceling the entire Civil Defense program and all of the fallout shelter signs and supplies in one fell swoop.

A continuation of that quisling Jimmy Carter’s actions in 1976 and forward, doing everything from weakening our military to repealing the Homestead Act. The latter? Clinton finished it off in 1996 by revoking permanent land deeds for miner placer claims through the BLM…Bureau of Land Management)

Then Obama’s eight years to wring the blood out of the nation and eviscerate it from top to bottom. President Trump (to his dis-credit) punctuated all of this with a “period” by allowing the Commission to Assess the EMP (Electromagnetic Pulse) Threat Against the U.S. to disband due to de-funding in September of 2017.

We are in a weakened state militarily, with economic growth only in appearance…not considering an economy based on 75% consumption and consumer spending, where the manufacturing base has been outsourced, where unfunded liabilities and credit deferred swaps (CDS’s) are not factored into account. We are relying on a millennial generation that prefers to escape reality within the stultifying world of television and the Internet…where instead of learning a trade they amass debt with degrees in nebulous subjects and expect their elders (and the government) to pay for their debts.

Returning to the first sentence of this article, all of this is purposeful when the big picture is considered. The country has been substantially weakened over the past fifty years, successively within the Democratic administrations, with a brief “hiatus” from the artificially-shifted paradigm with intermittent Republican administrations. The march toward global governance…making new inroads, as with Cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, and other “Monopoly Money” gimmicks designed to remove all financial transactions and savings from scrutiny: the elimination of privately-held funds.

We saw a weakness in Hawaii that is extant throughout the United States: the inability of citizens to be able to function in the face of a potential attack. Other countries prepare entire underground cities for their citizens, as with Russia and China. We do not do that for a simple reason: it is the intention of globalist oligarchs and politicos to eradicate (or allow/create a war to eradicate) as much of the common populace as possible. Then they will take their seats at the table of the global government…seats “earned” through their wealth, power, and actions: the actions taken to destroy the U.S. internally and either kill off or subjugate her citizens to this governance…this world rule.

“Purposeful” also given the climate between an unbending North Korea that will not capitulate to U.S. demands and gives no indication of inability to continue under the paper tiger of U.S. and UN sanctions. A new Cold War has been developing for the past several years, now. The reasons are always the same: pursuit of power and monetary gains.  The “mistake” in Hawaii does more than show us how inept we are in civil defense…it also shows other nations how we are neither united in purpose, or in a state of readiness. This is going to cost us in the long run, and time will reveal just how high that cost will be.

But you may rest assured of this guarantee: of that “conga line” mentioned above? Every one of those individuals…when the attack is real and is not a drill…will be on their way to their shelters…paid for with our tax monies…and safe from whatever occurs to the rest of us.

The next world war will be initiated by an EMP attack against the United States, followed by a nuclear exchange and conventional warfare.

Shock Video: Children Were Placed In STORM DRAINS During False Hawaii Ballistic Missile Warning

A false emergency alert in Hawaii that warned the populace to seek immediate shelter due to an incoming ballistic missile not only left people crying and screaming in the streets, it also caused concerned parents to attempt to hide their children in storm drains.

While citizens who were on Twitter were informed that the alert was false within ten minutes, it took upwards of 38 minutes for government officials to officially correct said false alarm with a second text message.

NBC News reports:

California resident Elizabeth Fong is in Hawaii looking to buy a house and received the alert. She said she didn’t receive a correction alert stating it was a false alarm until 8:46 a.m., 39 minutes after the initial alert.

The aftermath of the false alert was “crazy,” she told NBC Bay Area, and prompted people to run around on the streets “crying and screaming,” wondering what to do.

“I prayed to God and asked for forgiveness of my sins and for Him to protect us,” she said, adding that people are still shaken up.

Andy Thammavongsa, who tweeted a screenshot of his phone that showed the time between each alert, lives in Ewa Beach and told NBC in a Twitter message, “Everyone was panicking, the whole island was awake and alert.”

He added that “there’s nothing really you can do honestly” if the alert were real, saying there’s “nowhere to take shelter, the island is only so big.”

NBC Philadelphia anchor Vai Sikahema was actually in Hawaii at the time and fully believed that both he and his wife were about to be killed.

NBC Philadelphia’s anchor Vai Sikahema recalled his reaction to the alert to MSNBC. Sikahema said he texted his children, after none of his four college-age children picked up the phone, letting them know he and their mom were in Hawaii. He then told them where they could find a will as well as their insurance information. 

Sikahema said his wife told him: “Hey, if this is it, I guess this is no better place to go then here in Hawaii and the two of us being together.”

Shockingly, people in the state took the warning so seriously that they were actually placing their children in storm drains in a desperate attempt to protect them.

Clearly some heads are going to roll after this epic mistake. One can only wonder how the American people are supposed to believe that this all happened because someone simply pushed the wrong button?!

“Surrender Your Firearms” Hawaii Police Plan To Confiscate Guns From All Medical Marijuana Users

The Honolulu Police Department has sent a series of letters to local medical marijuana patients that directly orders them to surrender their firearms or, presumably, face state sanctioned violence to remove them.

Signed by Honolulu Police Chief Susan Ballard, the letters “inform” patients that upon receipt of the confiscation order, a citizen has 30 days to turn over their guns to the police. This stunning move amounts to direct gun confiscation for people who have no history of violent crimes.

As Leafly noted, “The existence of the notices, first reported early today by Russ Belville at The Marijuana Agenda podcast, was confirmed to Leafly News this afternoon by the Honolulu Police Department.

“The startling order comes just three months after the state’s first medical marijuana dispensary opened in Hawaii’s capital city.”

Although federal law prohibits all cannabis consumers from purchasing firearms, this is the first time that a local law enforcement agency has “proactively” sought to confiscate weapons from state-registered medical marijuana patients.

Despite the law being confirmed in multiple federal courts, any rational human being knows that this is nothing short of tyrannical overreach by an overzealous police chief who most likely is against private gun ownership in the first place.

Literally no one in the history of marijuana smoking as specifically killed someone because they have smoked a joint yet people like Police Chief Susan Ballard are apparently so caught up in their own power trip that they are willing to use violent force to strip the legitimate Second Amendment rights of citizens who legally use marijuana for a variety of aliments.

Make no mistake, if a local resident in Hawaii refuses this order, you can almost guarantee that the next step is forced gun confiscation at the barrel of a gun.

Hawaii Reinstates Cold-War Era Warning To Prepare For North Korean Attack

The previously retired air raid warning sirens from the Cold War era in Hawaii will be wailing again come December. Only this time, it’s due to the rising tensions between the United States and North Korea.

Hawaii has long been a military defense outpost sparking fears that North Korea could target the island. “I suppose that’s necessary as a precaution,” said Ted Tsukiyama, a Hawaiian resident, and WWII veteran. “But I don’t think North Korea is gonna attack,” Tsukiyama said. “They’d be foolish to threaten South Korea or Japan or the United States.”

But the concerns are growing as North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has repeatedly threatened to drop a bomb over the Pacific Ocean, and President Donald Trump has threatened North Korea with “fire and fury” and designated North Korea as a state sponsor of terrorism.  In turn, North Korea has continually failed to abide by the United Nations sanctions placed on them, as they advance their weapons of mass destruction.

Sirens were installed around Hawaii after the second world war started, according to Tsukiyama, and there would be periodic tests. “I remember hearing the sirens going off. The radio would give us a warning: ‘This is only a test, don’t get alarmed,’” said Tsukiyama, who was born and raised in Hawaii.

According to Vern Miyagi, administrator of the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency (HI-EMA), which is part of the state’s Department of Defense, the chances North Korea will act are unlikely, but making sure Hawaii is prepared is still vital.  “If North Korea launches against us or our allies, the retaliation would be complete and they would defeat North Korea’s ambition to continue its regime. The regime would probably end,” explained Miyagi. He notes Hawaii is protected under the U.S. Pacific Command’s defensive umbrella, the anti-ballistic missile system, and it is home to the Pacific Command, the military’s headquarters for the Asia-Pacific region.

Miyagi has pointed out that “Hawaii is a likely target because we’re closer to North Korea than most of the continental United States… As we track the news and see tests, both missile launches, and nuclear tests, it’s the elephant in the room. We can’t ignore it. People of Hawaii need to know what Hawaii is doing in preparation for this.”  Hawaii has been ramping up their preparations in advance for a potential nuclear attack by North Korea.

The Aloha State is currently attempting to educate its 1.4 million residents, as well as its visitors, on how to prepare for a nuclear attack.  Hawaii has become one of the first states in the nation to initiate a nuclear preparedness campaign and starting December 1, it will reinstate the “attack warning” siren, which it hasn’t tested since the Cold War. The siren will follow the monthly “attention alert” signal, which warns people of an incoming tsunami or hurricane.

The state has also been holding community meetings and broadcasting public service announcements on TV and the radio to prepare people for a possible attack.  Gone are the days of “duck and cover” during the Cold War; today, the mantra is “shelter in place,” preferably in a concrete structure. Officials also recommend having enough food and water to survive for 48 hours and being prepared with supplies to last up to 14 days.

If North Korea launches a missile, officials estimate it would only take 20 minutes to reach its destination.  It would take about five minutes for the United States government to determine where the missile is going, which would leave about 12 to 15 minutes to warn the public.

Pension Panic In Paradise: Maui Residents Outraged Over 52% Spike In Pension Contributions

Earlier this year, Maui County residents in the island state of Hawaii were somewhat less than ecstatic to learn that their property taxes were going to increase by approximately $29.7 million for fiscal 2018.  According to County Council member statements at the time, the additional funding was needed to help provide better public services for Maui residents.

That said, fast forward just a few months and it looks like a substantial portion of those tax increases won"t go to provide better public services for Maui residents at all but rather will be plowed into the state"s massively underwater pension fund.  As The Maui News points out today, Maui"s contributions to the state Employees’ Retirement System will surge 52% over just the next couple of years...and that"s if everything goes to plan.

“This is a massive, massive increase,” Williams said.

 

Maui County paid $31 million into the pension fund in fiscal 2017. But now, its payments will increase to approximately $34 million in fiscal 2018, $36 million in fiscal 2019, $42 million in fiscal 2020 and $47 million in fiscal 2021.

 

This amounts to a total of $36 million in extra payments by Maui County over the next four years alone — and its contributions are set to remain just as high every year afterward.

 

Williams said the extra payments were needed to help the public pension system avert a crisis in unfunded liabilities, currently estimated at about $12.4 billion.

Meanwhile, as we"ve pointed out multiple times before, the victims of Hawaii"s ponzi failure will inevitably be the kids as funding gets diverted from public schools and into the pockets of a few retired public employees.

Williams is correct that the increased payments will help the state pay down its unfunded liabilities and return to being able to meet its current obligations to state and county employee retirees. But a new crisis has begun — the crisis of taxpayers feeling the pressure to bail out the system.

 

Williams acknowledged that the counties would be under more financial pressure.

 

“We know over time it really crowds out other goods and social services that are required, whether it’s education or roads or hospitals, or you name it,” he said. “There are limited revenues available, and these are commitments that have been made and need to be paid.”

But, maybe there"s a better way...we happen to know of a guy who recently paid $100 million for a large chunk of Kauai and is eager to settle a dispute with locals over his massive border wall (see: Protesters Plot "Border Wall" Rally For Tomorrow...At Zuckerberg"s Sprawling $100mm Hawaiian Estate)...perhaps a 1x gift to the Hawaii retirement ponzi is the perfect solution?

Hawaii Becomes First U.S. State To Go Cashless For Marijuana Sales

Hawaiian state officials announced Tuesday that Hawaii will be the first state to require the sale of marijuana to be cashless, paid with a special debit card payment system next month.

“Oct. 1 is our target date to try to go cashless as much as we can,” Iris Ikeda the state’s financial institutions commissioner, told reporters at a news conference.

While marijuana is legal for medical use in Hawaii, the feds still consider it a Schedule I drug. This status has brought problems for many banks and credit unions, which is the reason why cannabis dispensaries have been cash-only.

The Governor of Hawaii, David Ige, has praised the cashless move stating:

This cash-free solution makes sense. It makes dispensary’s finances transparent, and it makes it easier for the patients who are being served.

Instead of cash, customers will have to download and install CanPay, a mobile app that processes payment for medicinal marijuana shops using a Colorado-based credit Union, Safe Harbor Private Banking.

The app is already an option for marijuana transactions in six states, including California and Colorado.

“You download it on your smartphone. It will link up to a checking account and you will get a QR code. With that code you are able to use that at the dispensary,” Ikeda said.

Now a battle begins with credit card processing companies like Visa and Mastercard who say they won’t allow their cards to be used to buy cannabis or marijuana-related products.

Dispensaries should consider instead using cryptocurrency for their payments since they are already using a QR code and digital assets use a wallet that can only be taken from with the private wallet password, so their funds would be safe from potential robbers and from the government seizing assets.

Hawaii was among the first states to legalize medical marijuana in 2000 but the state didn’t grant licenses to dispensaries until last year. Maui Grown Therapies became the first to open last month after the state Department of Health gave it the approval to begin sales.

There is an increased uncertainty over how the Trump administration will react. Attorney General Jeff Sessions has continuously said he wants to “crack down on the legal marijuana industry” and that the plant causes “violence.”

Hawaii Considers A "Universal Basic Income" As Robots Seen Stealing Jobs, There's Just One Catch...

Forget social security, medicaid and WIC, today"s progressives have moved well beyond discussing such entitlement relics of the past and nowadays dedicate their efforts to the concept of a "Universal Basic Income" for all...call it the New "New Deal".  You know, because having to work for that "car in every garage and chicken in every pot" is just considered cruel and unusual punishment by today"s standards.

Of course, it should come as little surprise that the progressive state of Hawaii, which depends on easily automatable jobs tied to the tourism industry, is among the first to pursue a Universal Basic Income for its residents.  And while the idea of passing out free money to everyone seems like a genius plan, if we understand it correctly, as CBS points out, there is just one catch...figuring out who will pay for it.

Driverless trucks. Factory robots. Delivery drones. Virtual personal assistants.

As technological innovations increasingly edge into the workplace, many people fear that robots and machines are destined to take jobs that human beings have held for decades--a trend that is already happening in stores and factories around the country. For many affected workers, retraining might be out of reach —unavailable, unaffordable or inadequate.

Over the past two decades, automation has reduced the need for workers, especially in such blue-collar sectors as manufacturing, warehousing and mining. Many of the jobs that remain demand higher education or advanced technological skills. It helps explain why just 55 percent of Americans with no more than a high school diploma are employed, down from 60 percent just before the Great Recession.

Hawaii state lawmakers have voted to explore the idea of a universal basic income in light of research suggesting that a majority of waiter, cook and building cleaning jobs — vital to Hawaii"s tourism-dependent economy — will eventually be replaced by machines. The crucial question of who would pay for the program has yet to be determined. But support for the idea has taken root.

"Our economy is changing far more rapidly than anybody"s expected," said state Rep. Chris Lee, who introduced legislation to consider a guaranteed universal income.

Lee said he felt it"s important "to be sure that everybody will benefit from the technological revolution that we"re seeing to make sure no one"s left behind."

But taking billions from hard working Americans to "spread the wealth around" has never been all that difficult before so presumably this too should prove to be a relatively minor issue.

In all seriousness, where does Representative Lee and CBS figure Hawaii will get the funding for their guaranteed income plan?  Well, as it turns out, Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes made a very generous $10mm donation to support programs just like this...the only problem, of course, is that Hawaii would need about 1,000 times that amount to fund Chris Lee"s plan for just one year.

For now, philanthropic organizations founded by technology entrepreneurs have begun putting money into pilot programs to provide basic income. The Economic Security Project, co-led by Facebook co-founder Chris Hughes and others, committed $10 million over two years to basic income projects.

Tom Yamachika, president of the Tax Foundation of Hawaii, a nonprofit dedicated to limited taxes and fairness, has estimated that if all Hawaii residents were given $10,000 annually, it would cost about $10 billion a year, which he says Hawaii can"t afford given its $20 billion in unfunded pension liabilities.

That said, it"s difficult to argue with Karl Widerquist"s argument that Hawaiians deserve a "beach dividend" for their heroic efforts in being born and continuing the difficult task of breathing day in and day out.

Karl Widerquist, co-founder of the U.S. Basic Income Guarantee Network, an informal group that promotes the idea of a basic income, suggests that Hawaii could collect a property tax from hotels, businesses and residents that could be redistributed to residents.

"If people in Alaska deserve an oil dividend, why don"t the people of Hawaii deserve a beach dividend?" he asked.

And while we have little doubt that Widerquist has fully thought through his suggestion that Hawaii just raise an incremental $10 billion every year via a tax on hotel stays...we thought we"d run the math just to make sure his plan holds water.  As it turns out, roughly 3 million families visit Hawaii for a little R&R every year which means each family would only have to pony up an extra $3,400 per hotel stay to cover Hawaii"s Universal Basic Income plan.  Seem more than reasonable, right?

No More Restraint From North Korea; Trio Of Missiles Launched

The cooling of tensions between the United States and North Korea appears to be over as things begin heating up again.  Kim Jong-un’s regime has now launched a trio of missiles in response to joint US and South Korea military drills.

Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson, may have spoken too soon. Just last week, Tillerson attempted to dial down tensions even more by noting that there had been no missile tests or “provocative acts” from North Korea since a United Nations Security Council resolution sanctioning Pyongyang was passed earlier this month. Less than one week after Tillerson praised North Korea for showing “restraint” in its weapons program, the rogue regime launched three missiles.  Pyongyang fired three short-range ballistic missiles from the Kangwon province, the US Pacific Command said. US Pacific Command, in its initial assessment of the launch on Saturday, said North Korea’s first and third missiles failed in flight. It later amended its statement to say the missiles flew “approximately 250 kilometers in a northeastern direction.”

The second missile launch appeared to “blow up” immediately after the launch, making it hugely unsuccessful. “We will continue to work with our interagency partners on a more detailed assessment of this latest launch and we will provide a public update if warranted,” command spokesman Commander David Benham said in a statement. But officials continue to claim that North Korea’s missiles are not a threat.

Even though North Korea says it now has the ability to send missiles to the United States mainland, US defense officials said these three short-range missiles at least did not pose a threat to North America or Guam.  North Korean state-run media said the country’s military could strike the US at any time and that neither Guam, Hawaii, nor the US mainland could avoid the “merciless strike.”Although these launches were no threat to Guam, it reminds us that we cannot be complacent,” said George Charfauros, the homeland security adviser on the US territory. “We place confidence in our US Department of Defense capabilities and continue open communications with our federal and military partners.”

One day before the joint exercises with the US and South Korea began Monday, Pyongyang warned the US was risking an “uncontrollable phase of a nuclear war.“

Volcanoes Around the World are Springing to Life

There are few things in nature as fascinating as volcanoes. There are also few things that are as deadly. There are regular old volcanoes, and there are super-volcanoes. Super-volcanoes have the capacity to wipe out civilization, and one such super-volcano in Italy appears to be waking from a 500-year slumber. [1]

Rumored to have caused the extinction of the Neanderthals, the nearly 5-mile wide Campi Flegrei super-volcano sits on the Italian coast. Researchers are concerned that it is approaching a critical pressure point that could lead to an eruption. There are close to 500,000 people living around it.

When you picture a volcano, you picture smoke and lava erupting from its peak. But super-volcanoes are quite different. Imagine Yellowstone National Park. Super-volcanoes are formed when a volcano ejects so much magma from its center that it actually collapses on itself, leaving behind extensive fields of volcanic activity, a vast crater, as well as numerous geysers, hydrothermal activity, and sulphuric acid.

The Campi Flegrei super-volcano is made up of 24 craters and large volcanic edifices, many of which are submerged beneath the Mediterranean Sea. It formed 39,000 years ago, as part of the largest eruption Europe has experienced in the last 200,000 years.

Since its formation, Campi Flegrei has experienced 2 major eruptions – 35,000 years ago, and 12,000 years ago. A smaller eruption occurred in 1538. That “smaller” eruption, however, lasted for 8 days and spewed so much material into the surrounding area, it formed a new mountain, Monte Nuovo.

You get the point – even a “small” eruption is a huge event, so a major eruption could be catastrophic.

The eruption that occurred 200,000 years ago is believed to have triggered a “volcanic winter” that wiped out the Neanderthals. That’s pure speculation, but scientists say the eruption spewed some 1 trillion gallons of molten rock onto the surface and just as much sulphur into the atmosphere.

The Critical Pressure Point

A team of researchers from the Italian National Institute for Geophysics and Volcanology are watching Campi Flegrei very closely because the super-volcano appears to be approaching a critical pressure point that could trigger a 3rd major eruption.

ScienceAlert explains:

“This critical pressure point – referred to as critical degassing pressure (CDP) – could drive volcanic unrest towards a critical state, the team reports, by releasing jets of super-hot gas into the atmosphere, heating the surrounding hydrothermal fluids and rocks, and causing rock failure and possibly an eruption.”

Volcanologist Giovanni Chiodini says:

“Hydrothermal rocks, if heated, can ultimately lose their mechanical resistance, causing an acceleration towards critical conditions.”

Campi Flegrei has been experiencing an “uplift” for the past decade, which suggests that the volatile gases beneath it are rising to the surface at an accelerating rate. This has prompted Italian authorities to raise the super-volcano’s alert level from green (“quiet”) to yellow (“requires scientific monitoring.”)

Uplift has signaled volcanic eruptions in the past, most notably with Rabaul in Papua New Guinea and Sierra Negra in the Galapagos.

No one is telling local residents to run for their lives just yet, because it is impossible to predict what, if anything, Campi Negrei might do. Chiodini says:

“We have many uncertainties and long-term previsions are at the moment not possible! For example, the process that we describe could evolve in both directions: toward pre-eruptive conditions or to the finish of the volcanic unrest.”

Chiodini and his team hope that their latest observations will spur other researchers to monitor Campi Flegrei in the coming years, so people have some idea of just how catastrophic another major eruption could be.

Problems in Peru

Two volcanoes in Peru have roared to life, leading to widespread fear and mass evacuations. [2]

On December 26, at 8:24 a.m., the Sabancaya volcano, which sits just 40 miles from Peru’s second most populous city, Arequipa, began spitting smoke and ash some 11,500 feet into the air just over a week after it became active.

Local authorities have warned the local inhabitants that they are likely to be affected by the ash from the 20,000-foot volcano, whose name translates to “tongue of fire” in the local dialect of Quechua.

Sabancaya had been dormant for 200 years until it began erupting in the 1980’s.

Just 60 miles away, the Ubinas volcano is also in the midst of spewing smoke and ash 2 miles into the atmosphere. It is Peru’s most active volcano, and was last active in April 2014. Ubinas had been dormant for about 40 years before rumbling back to life in 2006.

Authorities began evacuating the surrounding area earlier this week.

Peruvian Geophysical Institute (IGP) investigator Orlando Macedo said:

“All this activity is part of an expected process. Before the eruption, tremors were occurring closer and closer to the volcano and the crater. However, the process is taking longer than that which we saw at the Ubinas Volcano, when everything happened in a matter of days. In the case of Sabancaya, this could go on for several months.”

Other Areas of Concern

There was a lot of moving and shaking in December 2016.

Mount St. Helens in Washington State experienced an earthquake “swarm” of some 120 shallow temblors over the course of several days. It is considered active, but an eruption could be years away. [3]

On the Kamchatka Peninsula in the Russian Far East, the Shiveluch volcano blew its top, destroying the small lava dome/plug in its crater and generating a 36,000-foot ash plume. Fortunately, the ash drifted to an uninhabited area, but an orange aviation alert was issued to warn airlines of the ash plume.

In Costa Rica, antennas on Irazu will have to be moved because of cracking on the volcano. It is unknown whether the cracking is related to any potential changes in the Irazu volcano, or if the surface blocks are just faulting.

The infamous Hawaiian volcano Kilauea experienced a small explosion, sending huge chunks of debris flying, including old wall rock and lava from the lava lake. This is a fairly common occurrence.

Lastly, scientists have noticed an increase in seismicity at Cayambe in Ecuador. An earthquake swarm that occurred there over several days in December indicate that Cayambe, like Mount St. Helens, is recharging, but no eruption appears to be imminent.
