The "Safest Home In America" Is Back On The Market

A simmering nuclear crisis, series of devastating natural disasters and a resurgence of drug-fueled crime are inspiring more Americans than ever before to buy up “doomsday prepper” gear – everything from gas masks to fallout shelters – a trend that we’ve observed time and time again.

While most Americans will need to settle for a small backyard bunker stocked with canned goods and water filters because of cost constraints, anybody looking for something slightly more stylish need look no further: A home in the Atlanta suburbs that has been described by architects as “the safest home in America” just hit the market – and it can be yours for the bargain price of $15 million.

The home, known as Rice House, is located inside a gated community in Alpharetta, Georgia, about 30 minutes northeast of central Atlanta.

The cream-colored, colonnaded facade of the Rice House, situated on 3.5 acres just outside Atlanta, hides far more than a private theater, bowling alley, and infinity swimming pool.

The master and guest bedrooms have ballistic doors that can withstand fire from an AK-47 assault rifle. The car vault is large enough to hold 30 vehicles and has an entrance designed to be concealed by a waterfall. Secret doors lead to a 15,000-square-foot bunker  in which an embattled owner could conceivably hole up for years, with off-grid power and water drawn from three artesian wells drilled 1,000 feet into the ground. The house had its own security architect who spent two decades designing secure buildings for the DOJ.

Listing materials boast that it is “one of, if not the, safest home in America.”

“This is a home where you could put a $20 million painting on the wall and sleep comfortably at night,” said listing broker Paul Wegener, of Atlanta Fine Homes Sotheby’s International Realty. “The same goes for your family.”

The unnamed entrepreneur who owns Rice House spent six years and some $30 million to build the 36,000-square-foot fortress – a project that Bloomberg claims was “mostly for kicks.”

“He said to me, ‘If anyone wants to get me, they can find me at Chick-fil-A,’” the real-estate agent tasked with selling the home said. “It was something of an intellectual exercise to create an impenetrable home, a personal Batcave that the owner could peel his Bugatti Veyron out of.”

The home was just relisted for $14.7 million, a drop from the original $17.5 million. The estate also needs to be finished, a project that cost an additional $3 million to $5 million. The owner planned the Rice House as a family legacy, but decided to sell when he learned his son didn’t want to live there. The main house has been completely built, with eight bedrooms, 14 bathrooms, three kitchens, a private museum, a wine cellar, an indoor shooting range, and commercial-grade elevators.

“The mandate was the best of everything,” Wegener said. To construct the foundation, workers dug down to bedrock and then bored down into it. The walls are made from extra-strength concrete reinforced with rebar. The car vault originally was designed with 18 columns, but the owner pushed back until engineers figured out a way to use custom-made bridge beams, so no pillars would be needed to support the ceiling. The Rice House is highly energy-efficient, with geothermal heating and cooling and a solar energy system.

Though it’s not included in the listing—to maintain that hush-hush feel—the Rice House is in Country Club of the South, a location popular among athletes and other famous individuals. Retired Atlanta Braves pitcher Tom Glavine, Usher, Whitney Houston, and NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson have all lived there. The neighborhood has 19 tennis courts, an 18-hole, golf course designed by Jack Nicklaus, basketball courts, a concert venue—and, of course, 24-hour security.

It's 7pm In New York, Do You Know Where Your Precious Metals Manipulators Are?

It appears the machines have found a new pattern to follow...

Last night we pointed out the "odd" - in the sense that nothing amazes us anymore, but still, behavior in precious metals futures markets.

At 1906ET last night, Silver futures flash-smashed higher, running the day"s high-stops, before plunging back to earth...

Gold futures also followed suit tonight...

This would normally be shrugged off as just another example of the utter farce that global capital markets have become. However, a glance back in recent history at the silver market"s most recent chaos moment - on July 6th - and a "funny" thing stood out!!!

Gold also followed suit that night too...

h/t @TFMetals

At exactly 1906 ET on July 6th, Silver futures flash-crashed (some say over 10%, though many data feeds have been subsequently "cleansed" of that sin), before normalizing.

*  *  *

And sure enough, tonight, at exactly 1906ET once again, "someone" went to town on Silver & Gold futures...

And it even looks like the machines tried to front-run each other a little into the 1906ET mini-flash-crash

So, we ask again, what is it about 1906ET that sends the algos in overdrive? Or is it all just coincidence? Probably nothing, right?

It"s now deja deja vu all over again...

What Is It About 1906ET That Spooks Precious Metals 'Traders'?

The always-efficient so-called markets exhibited some interesting behavior once again this evening.

First of all, Dow futures flash-smashed higher after re-opening following AAPL"s earnings blow out, only to settle back down to reality very shortly after...

However, it was the precious metals "markets" that went a little turbo. At 1906ET, Silver futures flash-smashed higher, running the day"s high-stops, before plunging back to earth...

Gold futures also followed suit tonight...

This would normally be shrugged off as just another example of the utter farce that global capital markets have become. However, a glance back in recent history at the silver market"s most recent chaos moment - on July 6th - and a "funny" thing stood out!!!

The Perfect Crash Indicator Is Flashing Red

Authored by John Rubino via DollarCollapse.com,

What’s the last big toy you buy when things have been good for a really long time and you already have all the other toys? An RV, of course. A dubious thing to own if you already have a house, but when the good times seem likely to roll on forever, why the hell not?

And what’s the first thing you sell when you lose your job and your stocks are tanking? That very same RV. Which makes new RV sales a useful indicator of our place in the business cycle.

What does it say now? Here you go:

Notice the mini-spike in the late 1990s and the major spike in mid-2000s, both of which were followed by corrections. Now note the mega-spike from 2010 and 2016.

And how are things going so far this year? Well, the space is on fire:

‘The RV space is on fire’: Millennials expected to push sales to record highs

(CNBC) – RV shipments are expected to surge to their highest level ever, according to a forecast from the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association.

It would be the industry’s eighth consecutive year of gains.

Thor Industries and Winnebago Industries posted huge growth in their most recent earnings report.

Those shipments are accelerating, and should grow even more next year, the group said. Sales in the first quarter rose 11.7 percent from 2016.

Much of the growth can be attributed to strong sales of trailers, smaller units that can be towed behind an SUV or minivan, which dominate the RV market. The industry also is drawing in new customers.

As the economy has strengthened since the Great Recession, and consumer confidence improved, sales have picked up, said Kevin Broom, director of media relations for RVIA.

Two of the major players in the industry, Thor Industries and Winnebago Industries, both manufacturers of RVs, reported huge growth in their most recent earnings report. Thor saw sales skyrocket 56.9 percent to $2.02 billion fromlast year. Winnebago’s surged 75.1 percent last quarter to $476.4 million.

Gerrick Johnson, an analyst at BMO Capital Markets, attributed much of that growth to acquisitions. Thor bought Jayco, then the No. 3 player in the industry, last June; Winnebago bought Grand Design in October.

Thor stock has experienced strong growth over the past year of almost 40 percent. Winnebago tells an even better story: Its shares are up 56 percent over the past 12 months.

“They’ve done massively well because they’ve made massively creative acquisitions,” said Johnson. “Wall Street didn’t realize how creative those deals were. Each quarter they came through. The RV space is on fire, and the demand metrics are quite positive.”

What we have here is another classic short. During the past couple of recessions, RV stocks plunged as everyone came to their senses and stopped buying $60,000 motel rooms. Based on the above chart that’s a pretty good bet to repeat going forward. Let’s revisit this play in a couple of years.

“We are declaring war on cash,” Visa's Andy Gerlt

Introduction by Vince Lanci

Here is yet more proof of what happens when slow, methodical planning, manufactured consent, and corporate influence combine their forces. The result is an unholy union between academic ideologists, political puppets, and corporate greed manifested in what can only be described as a juggernaut; A slow, relentlessly moving object that will crush anything in its path. Note juggernauts are also prone to crushing their devotees as well.

Per Wikipedia

A juggernaut  in current English usage, is a literal or metaphorical force regarded as mercilessly destructive and unstoppable. This usage originated in the mid-nineteenth century[2] as an allegorical reference to the Hindu temple cars of Jagannath Temple in Puri, which apocryphally were reputed to crush devotees under their wheels.

When you have political, capitalistic, and ideological forces aligned; you get economic, political, and technological forces almost religiously agreeing on a course  of action. In this case, Multiculturalist Ideology, Government Shills, and New Tech can now make their play on creating an even more captive consumer / sheeple.

Visa"s Pitch to India

And among the people championing the convenience of a cashless society are those who use  iphones to buy Starbucks coffee. These devotees who will sacrifice freedom for convenience will not be spared. They will be crushed under the juggernaut when alternate choices of transacted commerce are eliminated.

Kind of like the middle class thinking Trump was going to help them. Or the bitter left that thought Hillary was actually liberal. There are only degrees of authoritarianism now. And those in power are the elitists who state they know what is best for you. It also happens to be what is best for them. And cash - or more correctly control of how cash is spent - is an obstacle to that

There is nowhere to hide. The cashless society is coming, and with it, your freedom to spend where and when you see fit. Your ability to get fair prices from open trade borders will be closed. And when you convert your paper to Gold, that will be attacked next.

And those  people using Bitcoin to transfer wealth out of countries to retain their economic freedom we say  this; What are you going to transfer your wealth into? Are you going to leave it in Bitcoins? Then enjoy 100% volatility.

Risk cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be  exchanged for different risk. The wall is being built alright. It is being built around your economic freedom. Then the cries of BUY AMERICAN will sound out,  as you will not be able to buy anywhere  else. And American corporations will own your spending habits. Do you think supermarkets want to make less money when they ask for your "Club Card"?

You should be very scared when a bank spokesperson feels confident enough to actually say what he did. That means he thinks its a done deal. That headline is an actual quote.

Banks Are Scheming to Dominate a Future Cashless Society

Written by Shaun Bradley for theantimedia.org

Visa recently announced its new Cashless Challenge program, which offers $10,000 to restaurants willing to transition into accepting only digital payments.  As the largest credit card processor in the U.S., it’s no surprise Visa is spearheading this campaign. Under the guise of increasing transparency and efficiency, they’ve partnered with governments around the world to help convert financial systems into cashless models, but their real incentive is the billions of dollars in extra transaction fees it would generate.

“We are declaring war on cash,” Visa spokesman Andy Gerlt proudly proclaimed after the program was announced.

The food-based small businesses Visa is targeting are among those that benefit most from accepting cash from customers. When transactions are for amounts less than $10, the fees charged cut significantly into profits. Only 28% of food trucks currently accept credit card payments because of the huge losses they incur from them. The bribe from Visa may seem appealing up front but will be mostly paid back to them over the next few years in fees alone.

Liz Garner, Vice President of the Merchant Advisory Group, which represents over 100 of the largest businesses in the U.S., explained some of the hurdles faced when dealing with card networks:

“For many businesses – both large and small – the cost of accepting plastic cards and other forms of electronic payments is one of their highest operating costs. Most business owners have no qualms about paying reasonable fees for business services, and they do so every day for items such as cleaning services, security systems, Wi-Fi, and other basic needs. However, they have the ability to negotiate for those services in a fair and transparent marketplace, which they do not with the two major credit and debit card networks….Credit card and debit card fees are dictated directly by Visa and MasterCard and are imposed on the majority of merchants in a take-it-or-leave-it fashion. Most businesses feel that failing to accept these major card brands is not a competitive option so they continue accepting electronic payments even though the costs are squeezing their business, and the inflexible acceptance rules fly in the face of free market enterprise,”

This ongoing push for a cashless society in EuropeAsia, and the Americas is about much more than just phasing out paper money — it’s about central planners solidifying control over the public’s wealth. This ongoing merger of corporate and government interests is the definition of crony capitalism. Regardless of the blatant collusion, the choices individuals make will still ultimately decide the direction for the future. Buying material goods on credit has become a lifestyle for millions, but the long-term costs of those decisions must be understood if there’s any chance for progress.

Americans have made a huge mistake by running up a staggering $1 trillion dollars in credit card debt with an average interest rate of over 16%. Thanks to the Federal Reserve system, companies like Mastercard, Discover, and American Express can issue bonds paying extremely low-interest rates to the investors while simultaneously lending that money out to credit card holders at sky high rates. Companies will always take advantage of opportunities to increase profits, but the people’s willingness to keep borrowing from them is at the core of the problem.

Access to cheap capital has been extended to the largest corporations for over a decade, but when it comes to small businesses or individuals there is a completely different set of standards. The pressure to consistently increase revenues and stock prices has led to an unnatural parasitic relationship between these companies and their customers. Cash is one of the last options that allows people a way to avoid dealing with this kind of shakedown.

More than

30% of all payments

in the U.S. are still conducted in cash, but

financial intermediaries

 that charge processing fees are

joining

with the State and central banks to ensure the public has no room to innovate. Credit and debit cards have been the most convenient way to make purchases for over a decade, but emerging competition is slowly making them irrelevant.

Bitcoin and smart contract platforms have introduced an entirely new marketplace for businesses and individuals outside the dominion of the old financial vanguard. Dozens of large corporations have founded the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance to build support for other developing alternative blockchain technologies aside from Bitcoin. This ongoing evolution towards peer-to-peer payments will eventually doom companies like Visa to the same fate as Blockbuster. Those in power may champion the benefits of going cashless, but going bankless may be the only way out of this extortion matrix.

The efforts by governments and the financial industry to eliminate cash are only going to intensify. Those who adapt to the new paradigm of peer-to-peer payments will thrive, while those who don’t will have their hard earned money extracted to support a failing system. The illusion of banks being safe should have been shattered after the 2008 crisis, but eventually, the reality of how unstable the current institutions are will become apparent. Educating entrepreneurs and businesses on the benefits of Bitcoin and other decentralized options is the only way to shift this economy away from the control of central planners and towards a free and voluntary market.

What Is The Deep State?

Submitted by Jesse via Jesse"s Cafe Americain blog,

"... there is another government concealed behind the one that is visible at either end of Pennsylvania Avenue, a hybrid entity of public and private institutions ruling the country according to consistent patterns in season and out, connected to, but only intermittently controlled by, the visible state whose leaders we choose.

My analysis of this phenomenon is not an exposé of a secret, conspiratorial cabal; the state within a state is hiding mostly in plain sight, and its operators mainly act in the light of day. Nor can this other government be accurately termed an "establishment."

All complex societies have an establishment, a social network committed to its own enrichment and perpetuation. In terms of its scope, financial resources and sheer global reach, the American hybrid state, the Deep State, is in a class by itself. That said, it is neither omniscient nor invincible. The institution is not so much sinister (although it has highly sinister aspects) as it is relentlessly well entrenched.

Far from being invincible, its failures, such as those in Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya, are routine enough that it is only the Deep State’s protectiveness towards its higher-ranking personnel that allows them to escape the consequences of their frequent ineptitude."

Mike Lofgren, Anatomy of the Deep State

I do not think our time is all that different from those that have gone before it, insofar as the substance and types of our actions are concerned.  Every age has its thieves and hypocrites, in high and low places.

Rather, what is a little more distinctive of us is the numbers, the sheer number of people whose character, or a lack thereof, fits a common pattern— mean, petty, deceitful, and often willfully ignorant of moral constraints, lacking in civility and grace, and utterly unrepentant of it.

They are quite proud of their cleverness in gaming the system, in embracing the worst aspects of the human economy and abusing them, in the name of their unnatural virtues.  If they are liars, they strives to be among the most shameless and adept.  If they are thieves, they admire those who steal tirelessly and the most, while paying no consequences.

And above all, their perspective on life allows them to have no shame in it, any of it, in what other times would have been done in the darkness, and only behind closed doors, and carefully covered up.

We take our ill gotten gains, and place them in the spotlight with the high sounding names of wise-sounding and humanitarian organizations and foundations.

Anti-Trump Comics by “Triggered” Feminists Are “an Act of Political Resistance”

Anti-Trump Comics by “Triggered” Feminists Are “an Act of Political Resistance” | beyond-the-safety-pin | Politics Protestors & Activists Sleuth Journal Special Interests Trump

When you think of “political resistance” what comes to mind? For me it’s things like this:

Marches and protests.

Civil disobedience.

Fiery speeches.

Op-Eds so powerful that they make others reconsider their opinions.

Boycotts.

But it in all of my thoughts about political resistance, drawing a picture of being rained on by penises never occurred to me as a way to stand strong against a president. But according to  Nadja Spiegelman, “…constant and immediate reaction through pictures is a necessary form of political resistance.”

Apparently, that’s just me, though.

Feminists do things differently.

There’s a new feminist comic book called Resist that is loaded with images that women have drawn in an act of resistance against President Donald Trump.

They sure showed him.

It’s a special issue of a quarterly comics anthology called Smoke Signal, published by Gabe Fowler. Fowler asked Françoise Mouly, the art director of The New Yorkerto edit the special edition full of the artistic responses to the election of Trump by female and LGBTQ artists. Mouly enlisted the assistance of her daughter, Nadja Spiegelman, who put together this website.

According to an article on the Huffington Post that was dramatically titled, “The Radical, Feminist Comic Book We Need To Survive A Trump Presidency ” the anthology was an effort to address “the issues pressing to those triggered and threatened by the election.”

President Obama wanted to take my guns, but never did I feel “triggered and threatened.” I’m really having a lot of trouble wrapping my brain around these emotionally fragile responses.

I was very unhappy about the thought of a Hillary Clinton presidency, but if she had won, I would have continued doing what I did when Obama was president. (And I didn’t like him either.) I would have lived my life without the shadow of doom and depression hanging over me, I would have written commentary, and I would have continued to be a happy, productive person. Get over it already. You’re being a bunch of wusses. Could you possibly be any more dramatic and ridiculous?

Anyway, back to the comics by feminists.

30,000 copies of the angsty book will be given away on Inauguration Day.

Here are some screenshots of some of the “cartoons.” I couldn’t describe this stuff in a million words.
