McCain Institute Donors Look Disturbingly Similar To Clinton Foundation - Soros, Teneo, Saudia Arabia...

Last fall, we spent a fair amount of time reading through John Podesta"s emails, courtesy of Wikileaks, and grew increasingly astonished with each passing day at the number of apparent conflicts of interest created by the Clinton Foundation which seemed to be nothing more than a front created for the Clintons to peddle their influence around the world in return for staggering "charitable" donations.

Take, for example, our posts which questioned whether the CEO of Dow Chemical, Andrew Liveris, made very sizable contributions to the Clinton Foundation just so he could get an audience with then Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to discuss his failed $9 billion joint venture with Kuwait.  Here are a couple of posts which provide some background:

Or, there was that time that Hillary was offered $12 million from Moroccan King Mohammed VI just to host her annual "Clinton Global Initiative" meeting in his country.

And don"t even get us started on Doug Band who spent years with the Clintons before starting his own "consulting" practice called Teneo (see:  Doug Band Exposes Foundation"s "For-Profit Activity Of President Clinton (i.e., Bill Clinton, Inc.)")

Now, an exclusive report on the "McCain Institute" published earlier today from the Daily Caller (DC) has us wondering who else in Congress might just be running miniature Clinton Foundation-ish organizations and enriching their personal families in the process.

As the DC points out, the McCain Institute"s donor list looks eerily similar to that of the Clinton Foundation.

In addition to the "who"s who" of massive corporate donors (Chevron, Cisco, FedEx, Wal-Mart...), many of which were also large contributors to the Clinton Foundation, the McCain Institute counts many other more "questionable" donors, including Saudi Arabia, Teneo (Doug Band"s firm) and George Soros, among its largest.

As the DC points out, one such "questionable" donor that took interest in the McCain Institute was OCP, S.A., a Moroccan state-owned phosphate company.  Ironically, OCP just happened to also be a "major sponsor" of the Clinton Global Initiative where Bill was a featured speaker.

It accepted more than $100,000 from OCP, S.A., a Moroccan state-owned phosphate company operating in the Western Sahara, territory which Morocco seized in 1975. The North African country has since occupied the region by force in defiance of U.N. resolutions and legal declarations by other international bodies.

Morocco has come under criticism from human rights groups that the government violates basic human rights and that its state-owned companies subject its workforce to gruesome conditions while exploiting the disputed territory’s natural resources.

The Western Sahara holds half of the world’s phosphate reserves. Used to make fertilizer, phosphate is called Morocco’s “white gold.”

OCP also was a major sponsor of the CGI meeting, and Bill Clinton was the featured speaker.

And then there is the Pivotal Foundation...

The McCain group has also accepted at least $100,000 from the Pivotal Foundation, which was created by Francis Najafi who owns the Pivotal Group, a private equity and real estate firm.

The Pivotal Foundation has in the last three years given $205,000 to the National Iranian-American Council (NIAC), which has been a vocal advocate for the Iranian nuclear deal the Obama administration negotiated.

The NIAC web site claims the group “is a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the voice of Iranian Americans and promoting greater understanding between the American and Iranian people.”

But NIAC President Trita Parsi has long been an advocate for Iran, including demanding in May 2017 that President Donald Trump and officials in his administration “cease questioning the integrity of a (nuclear) deal.”

The NIAC is “Iran’s lobbyists in Washington,” charged Aresh Salih, the Washington representative of the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan. “People inside of Iran know them as their lobbyists in Washington, D.C.,” Salih told TheDCNF.

The NIAC does not file as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act, nor does it register as a lobbyist with Congress.

...not to mention Soros and Teneo who apparently gave all their money to the Clintons and could only afford a $25,000-$99,999 donation to McCain.

Not surprisingly, pretty much everyone who understands these "charitable fronts" think they"re a bad idea...afterall, we sincerely doubt that random Moroccan fertilizer companies suddenly performed random searches for charities of interest and just happened to settle upon both the Clinton Foundation and the McCain Institute.  No, we suspect they are looking for more from these organizations than just a tax deduction and a "warm and fuzzy" feeling in their hearts.

“This is a very real conflict of interest,” Craig Holman, a government affairs lobbyist at Public Citizen, told TheDCNF. “This is the similar type of pattern we received with the Clinton Foundation in which foreign governments and foreign interests were throwing a lot of money in the hopes of trying to buy influence.”

Lawrence Noble, general counsel for the Campaign Legal Center, told the DCNF that accepting contributions in the name of a sitting senator like McCain raises troubling issues.

“In terms of the ethics of it, it does raise a broad question of people trying to get good will with the elected official,” he said. “From a personal standpoint, I’d rather not see these entities exist.”

Of course, the real question is just how many congressional representatives have managed to setup similar organizations that we"re not even aware of yet.

The Clinton Foundation Is Shutting Down The Clinton Global Initiative

January 15, 2017   |   admintam

(ZHE) In a “mass layoff” event reported late last week by the Department of Labor, the Clinton Foundation announced it would lay off some 22 employees at the Clinton Global Initiative, which attained notoriety during the John Podesta leaks, when the various details of the fallout between between CGI head Doug Band and Chelsea Clinton were revealed; it also emerged that long-time Bill Clinton friend Band was soliciting donations for Clinton through his PR firm, Teneo in an sordid example of “pay for play” which most of the mainstream media refused to cover, especially after Band emailed Podesta “If this story gets out, we are screwed.”

Filed as mandated by the Department of Labor’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification, or WARN notice, on January 12, the Clinton Foundation’s Veronika Shiroka advised the DOL that as part of a “Plant Layoff” it would layoff 22 workers on April 15, with reason for the dislocation stated as “Discontinuation of the Clinton Global Initiative.” The layoffs are part of the Clinton plan put in motion ahead of the presidential election, to offset a storm of criticism regarding pay-to-play allegations during Clinton’s tenure as secretary of state.

As the Daily Caller notes, the layoffs were reportedly announced , ahead of Clinton’s stunning loss to President-elect Donald Trump. Many other employees had already begun looking for or accepting other jobs at that time, as it had become clear the future of the initiative was in doubt. It’s unclear how many of the once 200 strong staff might remain at the Clinton Foundation in some other capacity.

As a reminder, while the FBI has cleared Hillary Clinton of wrongdoing regarding her use of a private email server, a parallel probe into the Clinton Foundation regarding allegations of corruption is still ongoing.

The decision to sunset the Clinton Global Initiative reportedly set off a dispute within Clinton Foundation circles regarding the best way to handle the fallout from the allegations. Some complained the layoff process was “insensitively” handled, Politico reported, while others took issue with the optics of allowing anyone with the Clinton Global Initiative to stay on.

And while CGI is now officially being “discontinued”, the same fate likely awaits the Clinton Foundation itself following news in the aftermath of Hillary Clinton’s loss to Trump that Australia has cut its donations to the foundation to $0, while the far more generous Norway likewise slashed its donations by 87% as the political cout of the “charitable” organization dried up and as the opportunity for any future “quid pro quo” is now effectively gone.

The Clinton Global Initiative is shutting down

This article was originally posted at www.disobedientmedia.com

A document from the New York State Department of Labor reveals that the Clinton Global Initiative is being discontinued.

Filed on January 12, 2017, the document shows the layoff of a specialist employed by the Clinton Global Initiative as part of a "plant closure" and that the reason for their discontinuation was the "Discontinuation of the Clinton Global Initiative."

The news of the closure of the Clinton Global Initiative comes after reports emerged in the Fall of 2016 that they were laying off dozens of workers at their New York offices.

The Clinton Global Initiative was founded in 2005 by Bill Clinton and associate Doug Band. Band and Clinton were dogged by accusations of corruption, which intensified after 2016 document releases by Wikileaks revealed that Band was soliciting large numbers of donations for Clinton through his public relations firm, Teneo.

Chelsea’s $3M Wedding Paid By Foundation? Emails: Tax-Free Funds Floated a “Decade of Her Life”

This article was written by Tyler Durden and originally published at Zero Hedge.

Editor’s Comment: Would anything the Clinton’s allegedly did be enough to constitute a “scandal”? It is questionable whether even (rumored) video of Bill Clinton engaged in sex acts with minors would raise media eyebrows. It isn’t a question of what “is” is anymore, it is a question of what the supposed ‘watchdogs’ of the political scene (in all their official and self-appointed capacities) are willing to put on the table. For Alt-Right supporters of Trump, anything and everything is fair game, and there is plenty of detritus to bring to the surface; but for CNN and even FOX, many of these bombshell scandals may well not even exist.

The establishment is in the battle of its life to spin the great political realignment and rebuke of its powers into a new mandate for control. Whether that plays out in Hillary, or in some bastardized control of Trump’s administration after the fact, it is quite clear that the “Teflon” candidate is being allowed to sweep everything under the carpet. No matter what Wikileaks emails, Guccifer 2.0 hacks, whistleblowers and witnesses reveal, it is smooth sailing for Big H.

For any other politician, a mere fraction of the dirt piled up on this family would have ended careers, stirred media scrutiny and ended in prosecution, even if it is all just formality ending in suspended sentences. Instead, Hillary only becomes more inevitable in spite of, or possible even because of, the scandals that have emerged (both inside and outside the White House, the federal government, the State Department and the rigged DNC process). It is entirely possible that the electoral college is so locked-up that literally nothing could block her path. Let’s see how they tally the score come Tuesday night…

Doug Band Accuses Chelsea Of Using Clinton Foundation Money To Pay For Her Wedding

by Tyler Durden

A couple of days ago we shared a Podesta email from Doug Band about Chelsea talking openly in public about her “internal investigation” into the Clinton Foundation.

As with many of the Doug Band email chains, the rabbit hole just got a little deeper today with Band accusing of Chelsea of “using foundation resources for her wedding and life for a decade” among other accusations.  He also concludes with another veiled threat on the consequences “once we go down this road….”

The investigation into her getting paid for campaigning, using foundation resources for her wedding and life for a decade, taxes on money from her parents….

I hope that you will speak to her and end this

Once we go down this road….

Doug Band

The implications are troubling: as our friends from the Southern Investigative Reporting Foundation point out, “*If true* people (then) worth well into 8 figures used 501c3 $ to pay for a wedding.”

The latest Band email comes after he previously accused Chelsea of talking about her “internal investigation” in the Clinton Foundation with “one of the bush 43 kids.”

I just received a call from a close friend of wjcs who said that cvc told one of the bush 43 kids that she is conducting an internal investigation of money within the foundation from cgi to the foundation

The bush kid then told someone else who then told an operative within the republican party

I have heard more and more chatter of cvc and bari talking about lots of what is going on internally to people

"We Now Know Why Cheryl Didn't Want Hillary To Run" - Wikileaks Releases Part 32 Of Podesta Emails

With just two full days left before Tuesday"s election day, moments ago WikiLeaks unveiled it latest, Part 32 dump, of Podesta emails, which released another 2,073 emails, bringing the total to 52,481.

Saturday"s release provided more incriminating evidence of illegal activity at the Clinton Foundation, which according to an internal 2008 audit, "must act immediately to bring the Foundation into compliance with the law and standards that govern not-for-profits", it also showed that Hillary"s campaign was paying for Bill Clinton"s legal fees, a transaction of questionable legality, as well as exposing a Bill Clinton speech in which he hinted that the system "is rigged" and that Hillary "deserves the White House.

* * *

In today"s release, several emails stand out: one is a July 25, 2015 email from John Podesta to Neera Tanden, in which we get the continuation of the infamous "drawn and quartered thread." Recall that on October 27, we showed an email in which Tander blasted Hillary"s decision to have a private server as follows:

Do we actually know who told Hillary she could use a private email?  And has that person been drawn and quartered?

Today we get Podesta"s response, in which he says that as a result of the server revelations "At least we now know why Cheryl didn"t want her to run."

More troubling, and a further indication of Clinton Foundation impropriety, is a January 4, 2012 email from Teneo"s Doug Band, who has been extensively profiled on these pages, in which he accuses Chelsea Clinton of of "using foundation resources for her wedding and life for a decade."

CNBC"s John Harwood returns on the "objective journalist" scene, with a September 31, 2015 question to John Podesta, asking what he should ask Jeb Bush in an interview due the next day.

This is rich...below is an email from John Podesta back in August 2015 complaining about "oversamples" in a New Hampshire poll.

Something tells us that Chelsea and Doug may not be on speaking terms for a while after all the WikiLeaks revelations.

Chelsea Clinton's Husband Used Clinton Foundation To Raise Cash For His Hedge Fund

That Teneo"s Doug Band was not a fan of Chelsea Clinton, with whom he had a long-running feud as a result of her ongoing accusations that he was taking advantage of Bill Clinton"s presence to enrich himself (even though thanks to a leaked memo we now know for a fact just how Teneo was working as a pass through, pay-for-play vehicle to enrich both Clinton and Band), we have known for a while (and reported on again just moments ago, when in one of the latest Podesta emails, he accused her of using Foundation cash to pay for her wedding).

We now learn that Band was also not a fan of Chelsea"s husband, Marc Mezvinsky, co-founder of the hedge fund Eaglevale Partners, which had received substantial seed funding from Goldman Sachs, and which suffered massive losses with its wrong-way bet on Greek bonds.

In an email from January 18, 2012, Doug Band tells John Podesta and Cheryl Mills that "Marc mez[vinsky] had an idea to put together a poker night for the foundation to raise money. His raising money for his own fund hasn"t been going well and he has cvc [Chelsea Clinton] making some calls for him to get mtgs with some clinton people."

What Band was accusing "Mez" of doing is that since he was unable to raise cash for his hedge fund on his own, he came looking for the help of his wife, Chelsea, who is Vice Chairman of the Foundation bearing her last name.

Band then says that "Marc has invited several potential investors and a few current business ones to the poker night. I assume all are contributing to the foundation, which of course isn"t the point. What is the point is that he is doing precisely what he accused me of doing as the entire plan of his has been to use this for his business which he is."

And there you have another Pay-to-Play smoking gun: an extended Clinton family member using Bill"s (and Chelsea"s) "last name" connections to raise money for his business.

Needless to say, the idea worked: as Fox previously reported, in April 2012, Eaglevale booked $19 million from a dozen investors. California’s public employee pension fund, CalPERS, reportedly invested $13 million. Goldman Sach’s CEO, Lloyd Blankfein, jumped in with his own money, as did Chelsea Clinton’s former boss, Marc Lasry, who specializes in buying distressed debt.

In retrospect it appears that while we have no reason to doubt the sincerity of the relationship between Mezvinsky and Chelsea, the former clearly saw some prominent fringe benefits, namely the ability to fall back on the latter"s last name to "raise money" through the Clinton Foundation, after his own fundraising efforts were falling short.

Another fringe benefit was to use Chelsea Clinton as a conduit for confidential information on Greek bailout talks coming directly from the US State Department, whose head - and top US diplomat - at the time was Hillary Clinton. As Fox previously reprorted, In May 2012, Sid Blumenthal, emailed two “confidential” memos about the Greek
debt situation to Clinton. Hormats was included in the email loop.

Clinton stepped down as secretary of state in 2013 to run for president. But newly released emails from 2012 show that she and Clinton Foundation consultant, Sidney Blumenthal, shared classified information about how German leadership viewed the prospects for a Greek bailout. Clinton also shared “protected” State Department information about Greek bonds with her husband at the same time that her son-in-law aimed his hedge fund at Greece.

The first memo, Blumenthal told Clinton, is “based on conversations with German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schauble and those close to him … the information comes from an extremely sensitive source and should be handled with care. This information must not be shared with anyone associated with the German government.”

The second memo was classified and blacked out by State Department censors when Clinton’s emails were released. No doubt, it was informative. In June, Clinton’s deputy, Jake Sullivan emailed her “a depressing snapshot” of reports that Greek banks were failing and that Merkel was against a Greek bailout. The next day, he reported “re: Greece” that Ambassador Dan Smith “just spoke to the Central Bank Governor and assessed that the economic situation was “ok for now” provided that “small depositors put money back into the banks.”

A few days later, Clinton asked Sullivan for a confidential state department report, “Solidarity Bonds Greece Revised.” He sent it to her adding, “If you like, send it on [to] WJC," presumably a reference to William Jefferson Clinton.

Clinton ordered an aide, “Pls print two copies” of the Greek bond report. The report was blacked out as a “protected” document when the emails were made public.

Did Mezvinsky benefit from his family connection?

The emails show that Clinton did at least one official favor for her son-in-law. In August 2012, she forwarded Deputy Secretary Thomas Nides an email from Mezvinsky lobbying on behalf of his former Goldman Sachs colleague, Harry Siklas. Siklas and Goldman Sachs were invested in a deep sea mining venture called Neptune Minerals. Siklas asked Mezvinsky to broker a talk with Clinton about “current legal issues and regulations” on deep sea mining. Clinton ordered Nides to “follow up on this request.”

Nides replied, “I’ll get on it.”

Ironically, despite all the behind the scenes benefits which should have assured the young hedge funder of slam dunk returns, Mezvinsky still failed.  As Fox also added, "Marc Mezvinsky had friends in high places when he bet big on a Greek economic recovery, but even the keen interest of his mother-in-law, then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, wasn"t enough to spare him and his investors from financial tragedy."

In 2012, Mezvinski, the husband of Chelsea Clinton, created a $325 million basket of offshore funds under the Eaglevale Partners banner through a special arrangement with investment bank Goldman Sachs. The funds have lost tens of millions of dollars predicting that bailouts of the Greek banking system would pump up the value of the country’s distressed bonds. One fund, exclusively dedicated to Greek debt, suffered near-total losses.

A quick note here on what Mezvinsky"s biggest seed investor: Goldman Sachs. Recall that when Chelsea Clinton"s husband sought funding for his new hedge fund, he found financial backing from one of the biggest names on Wall Street: Goldman Sachs chief executive Lloyd Blankfein. Blankfein not only personally invested in the fund, but allowed his association with it to be used in the fund’s marketing.

The decision for Blankfein to invest in Hillary Clinton’s son-in-law’s company is just one of many ways Goldman Sachs has used its wealth to forge a tight bond with the Clinton family. The company paid Hillary Clinton $675,000 in personal speaking fees, paid Bill Clinton $1,550,000 in personal speaking fees, and donated between $250,000 and $500,000 to the Clinton Foundation. At a time when Goldman Sachs directly lobbied Hillary Clinton’s State Department, the company routinely partnered with the Clinton Foundation for events, even convening a donor meeting for the foundation at the Goldman Sachs headquarters in Manhattan.

Finally, in May 2016, Mezvinsky shut down Eaglevale"s Greek fund after losing 90% of its assets in early 2015. It is unclear if he has since resorted to using the Clinton Foundation to fund more cash.
