Pentagon “mistakenly” retweets post for President Trump to resign

Defense Secretary James Mattis will get an earful from his boss this morning after an “authorized user” of the Pentagon Twitter account retweeted – and then swiftly deleted – a tweet calling for President Donald Trump to resign after the president slammed Sen. Al Franken while remaining silent about Alabama Sen. Candidate Roy Moore.

Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning said in a statement that an authorized operator of the Defense Department’s official Twitter site “erroneously retweeted content that would not be endorsed by the Department of Defense. The operator caught this error and immediately deleted it.”

Chief Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White posted the same statement on Twitter.

President Trump stirred up a late-night controversy of his own Thursday after calling a picture of Al “Frankenstein” groping the breasts of Los Angeles radio host Leeann Tweeden “really bad.”

The White House’s official position on allegations that Moore had inappropriate sexual contact with at least seven women when they were teenagers – one of whom was just 14 at the time – is that the Alabama voters should decide his fate. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has threatened to expel Moore should he win the seat.

Socialist Group Calls For "Extermination" Of Capitalists, "Worth Shooting" Donald Trump

A socialist student group at Iowa State University has repeatedly made threatening comments about conservatives on social media, but the school says the comments are protected speech.

In one recent tweet, the school’s Young Democratic Socialists of America (YDSA) chapter called for the hanging and extermination of all “capitalists.”

“The left has done a good job radicalizing juggalos, weebs, furries, but I will not rest until ‘hXc’ stands for hang+Xterminate capitalists,” the group wrote in an October 4 tweet that has since been deleted.

After students brought the tweet to attention of the university, it replied via twitter by stating “this falls under free speech” and then offering available “resources” to student if they “feel threatened or harassed.”

Nor is this the first time that YDSA has posted threatening tweets, such as a September 30 tweet in which the club endorsed “shooting” President Trump.

“COMRADES: stay away from needle drugs! The only dope worth shooting is in the oval office rn [right now],” the group tweeted, though it subsequently deleted that post, as well.

Notably, YDSA is an officially registered student organization at the university, making it one that is “consistent with the mission and culture of the university,” according to the expectations for registered student groups.

While the university did not respond to Campus Reform’s request for comment, one student asserted that YDSA has a long-established pattern of making vitriolic remarks about conservatives.

“Overall, the club has had many hateful tweets against capitalism and capitalists, with the occasional directly-threatening tweet as shown above,” student Michael Fredrickson told Campus Reform.

“If this was a conservative group, all hell would break loose. It wouldn’t be allowed. Making them delete tweets isn’t going to do anything,” a recent graduate of the university commented on Twitter.

“Why isn’t the school doing something? This sounds like a threat to students on campus and in the Ames area. How is this allowed?”

President Trump declares “only one thing will work against North Korea”

A Tweet from President Donald Trump on Saturday has led many to believe that the White House is planning to attack North Korea as the rogue nation prepares to test a nuclear missile that could hit the west coast of the United States.

“Presidents and their administrations have been talking to North Korea for 25 years, agreements made and massive amounts of money paid,” Trump rightfully declared.

The president then took a major step towards war (whether you agree or disagree is irrelevant here) by declaring his belief that “only one thing will work,” a statement perceived by many as implying that his administration believes a military strike on North Korea is the only real solution to the ongoing nuclear situation.

Amazingly, Trump seems to be directly at odds with his own Secretary of State when it comes to North Korea, as Tillerson has looked to calm the situation while the president continues to make clear he does not believe diplomatic discussions will work.

“Last weekend, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson told reporters during a visit to China that the US conflict with North Korea is “overheated” and that the first priority was to calm things down. He said that the US has a direct line of communication open with Pyongyang over North Korea’s nuclear tests,” reported Business Insider.

“Trump diverged from the US State Department later that weekend and said Tillerson was “wasting his time” opening up talks with the North Korean regime. The president added that being nice to Kim “hasn’t worked in 25 years, why would it work now? Clinton failed, Bush failed, and Obama failed. I won’t fail.”

The increased rhetoric from Trump indicating a possible upcoming military attack on North Korea comes at the same time as the rogue nuclear nation is preparing to test fire a missile that can reportedly hit the west coast of the United States.

According to a report in The Mirror, a Russian lawmaker recently returned home from a trip to Pyongyang with news that the nation was “rather belligerent” and planning their next nuclear test.

North Korea is set to test-fire a new “high range” missile capable of hitting the US mainland, a Russian lawmaker claims.

Anton Morozov revealed Pyongyang’s plans as he returned from a five-day visit to the hermit state – where the mood is “rather belligerent” – with a Russian delegation.

He claims North Korean officials gave the Russians mathematical calculations showing that the intercontinental ballistic missile could reach targets on the US west coast.

It comes just days after a CIA official revealed that Kim Jong-un’s regime could launch a new missile or carry out another nuclear test next week.

Morozov told the Russian state-run news agency RIA Novosti: “They are preparing for a new test of a longer-range missile.

“They even gave us mathematical calculations that they believe prove that their missile can hit the western coast of the United States.”

President Trump has obviously found himself in a rather tough spot. On one hand, he knows past U.S. moves against North Korea have failed miserably and that the nation is openly threatening the country with a nuclear attack while on the other he has to balance this fear with not starting a conflict that could possibly end up becoming World War Three.

Regardless, each and every day it seems as if we get closer to some sort of actual confrontation with North Korea – at this point it seems to only be a question of when rather than if.

That"s something I"ve got in common with Private Pyle: he wants to be different. For whatever reason, I"m a contrarian to the core. Indeed, one of the appeals of messing around with personal computers back in 1980 was that practically nobody else was doing it (in case you hadn"t noticed, the unusualness of microcomputers vanishes decades ago, so that aspect of the appeal is likewise gone).

This contrarian view of the world extends to the "cover curse", a theory to which I strongly subscribe. Any bold declaration made by a prominent publication seems to invariably mark an inflection point. There"s this cover, for instance, which came out immediately before the demise and near-bankruptcy of Apple:

This cover from The Economist (itself quite famous for its covers being so often dead wrong) when oil was $10 per barrel and was about to explode hundreds of percent higher.

Barron"s decided Facebook was a lousy stock, just before it started a gargantuan run up to "blue chip" stock status, almost exactly to the day......

And, perhaps the most famous of all, Business Week decided just before 1980 began that stocks were doomed, after which time literally trillions of dollars of new wealth were created.

So, time and again, newspapers and magazines get it wrong - - but plenty of other media does too. This book, for instance, was all about the coast-to-coast millionaires in the United States, and it came out June 2007, precisely at the apex of the housing bubble.

So with mountains of other anecdotal evidence, it would seem that only a fool would declare loudly, on a public stage, anything definitive, since major announcements from prominent publications or thought leaders so often represent the collective consciousness at the point that it"s utterly saturated with some particular notion. Even though they say that no one rings a bell at the top, if you look historically at major turning points, there were always bells ringing - - just in a contrarian, hidden form.

Thus, when Trump was elected, inaugurated, and soon thereafter started bragging about the stock market, it seemed like a major reversal signal. After all, this is the President of the United States, and he"s crowing to the world about a stock market for which he gives himself full credit. So that"s bound to be some kind of peak, right? Surely after a tweet like that, the gods above will shame the man, just like they"ve embarrassed anyone showing hubris since the times of the ancient Greeks. Right?

.......Right?........

And yet there they are. Tweet after tweet, month after month, about high after high. And yet the market just keeps going higher..........which, let"s face it, is just going to egg the man on even more. It"s one thing for an old biddy like Yellen to yammer on about no more crises in her lifetime. But the POTUS is another matter altogether.

It really wasn"t that long ago that acts of hubris, either in the form of cover stories or political braggadocio, were met with swift reprisal from the universe. The biggest question facing us today - - far greater than where interest rates are going, or what the dollar is going to do, or even whether Kim is ever going to launch any of those missiles he"s so proud of - - is whether market forces...........normal market forces..............are gone for good. They might just be, and if so, hubris is not only back in style, but it"s going to be here to stay for a long, long time.

Trump escalates war with NFL in early tweetstorm

After igniting an NFL firestorm over the weekend with a series of tweetstorms bashing players who refused to stand for the national anthem (something we covered in detail here), Trump is at it again this morning with new tweets highlighting the disgruntled crowds that booed the kneeling players.

“Many people booed the players who kneeled yesterday (which was a small percentage of total). These are fans who demand respect for our Flag!”

Some of the loudest such ‘boos’ came for the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium when a number of Patriots kneeled for the anthem.

Meanwhile, Tom Brady responded to Trump’s continued attacks this morning saying that he “disagrees” with the President and thinks his tweets are “just divisive.”  Presumably, that means that Brady is of the opinion that exploiting his star power to make a political statement is not equally divisive?  Per WEEI:

“Yeah, I certainly disagree with what he said. I thought it was just divisive,” Brady said. “Like I said, I just want to support my teammates. I am never one to say, ‘Oh, that is wrong. That is right.’ I do believe in what I believe in. I believe in bringing people together and respect and love and trust. Those are the values that my parents instilled in me. That is how I try and live every day. I have been blessed to be in locker rooms with guys all over the United States over the course of my career. Some of my great friends are from Florida, Virginia, New York, Montana, Colorado, Texas. The one thing about football is it brings so many guys together — guys you would never have the opportunity to be around.

Whether it was in college, and all the way into the pros. We’re all different, we’re all unique. That is what makes us all special.”

“Hopefully it brings everyone together. I think that is what unity and love — like I said after the game, those are the things that concern me. When you’re in a locker room full of 53 players, you’re working to a common goal. You support the guys that you play with and you support your coaches, coaches support you. You just do the best you can do. You’re navigating through life. These things aren’t easy. Everyone deals with different challenges in their life and you respect everyone’s opinions and views. You don’t have to agree with everything. It’s hard to agree with your own wife on everything from day-to-day. I have so much respect for my teammates and what we’re trying to accomplish. Hopefully we can keep marching toward this end of the season, keep making improvements, get better and win more football games.”

Brady said he heard the boo’s during and after the anthem from some in the crowd and said people can do what they want to do.

“Yeah, I did,” he said. “No, I think everyone has the right to do whatever they want to do. If you don’t agree, that is fine. You can voice your disagreement, I think that is great. It’s part of our democracy. As long as it is done in a peaceful, respectful way, that is what our country has been all about.”

On the other hand, and not terribly surprisingly, NASCAR’s strong condemnation of protesting the national anthem, which Richard Petty said would earn anyone on his team an immediate dismissal, drew praise from the White House.  Per the Associated Press:

It appeared no drivers, crew or other team members participated in a protest during the national anthem to start the NASCAR Cup series race Sunday in Loudon, New Hampshire. Several team owners and executives had said they wouldn’t want anyone in their organizations to protest.

 Richard Childress, who was Dale Earnhardt’s longtime team owner, said of protesting, “It’ll get you a ride on a Greyhound bus.” Childress says he told his team that “anybody that works for me should respect the country we live in. So many people gave their lives for it. This is America.”

 Hall of Fame driver Richard Petty’s sentiments took it a step further, saying: “Anybody that don’t stand up for the anthem oughta be out of the country. Period. What got ’em where they’re at? The United States.”

When asked if a protester at Richard Petty Motorsports would be fired, he said, “You’re right.”

So proud of NASCAR and its supporters and fans. They won"t put up with disrespecting our Country or our Flag – they said it loud and clear!

Of course, it’s only a matter of time until we see if this controversy caused any dips in ratings for the increasingly politicized NFL.

(INTELLIHUB) — As you all probably already know, I have covered the Pizzagate conspiracy quite extensively since last December here at Intellihub.

However, little did I know that former Clinton campaign chairman and alleged ‘Pizzagate ringleader’ John Podesta would tweet me back about “#Pizzagate” after he got off the air with CNN on Wednesday.

It all started when I commented to the former campaign chair on Twitter, herein the following tweet which read: “My take on Trump family values.”

Keith Olbermann: Trump should be impeached after tweeting CNN takedown video

Former MSNBC television host and liberal commentator Keith Olbermann sent out a tweet Sunday morning calling for President Trump to be impeached after the president posted a video of himself beating CNN in a wrestling match on Twitter.

“Please RT if you agree the cabinet must invoke the 25th Amendment, TODAY, and immediately remove @realDonaldTrump from the presidency,” Olbermann wrote.

Trump Tweets 'Like-ability' Tumbles

Twitter users are showing President Trump less love than they did at the start of his term.

What’s driving the downward trend? Bloomberg notes several factors could be at play. The president’s approval rating has declined since he took office; enthusiasm for his brand of commentary may be waning; and, of course, newer tweets have simply had less time to accumulate likes, though most likes are usually awarded shortly after a tweet’s publication.

Trump says he prefers Twitter because he wants to work around the mainstream media’s filter.

“When the media takes my message, knows what my message is and then writes it purposely so it doesn’t sound good, I’d rather do Twitter,” he said a few days after taking office.

But, as AP reports, Twitter appears to have its own partisan filter. Reaction to Trump’s tweets break down sharply along partisan lines, with conservatives more likely to retweet without commentary while liberals are for more likely to respond to a tweet and, presumably, disagree. About 96 percent of those who simply retweet the president’s words are right-leaning, according to the analysis, while about 54 percent of his replies come from left-leaning users. Verified accounts — often journalists, celebrities, politicians or other public figures — are 70% more likely to weigh in on Trump’s tweets by quoting them, interjecting their own voices to the discussion.

However, as Bloomberg reports, the decline has not affected the president’s ability to use Twitter to deliver his message. Any tweet from @realDonaldTrump is still capable of taking over a news cycle. Trump’s tweet on May 2 calling for “a good ‘shutdown’ in September” had garnered only about 58,000 likes as of Wednesday morning yet had generated stories in the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Fox News website, Breitbart, and Bloomberg News.

As we concluded previously, if Trump doesn’t adopt the Cold War 2.0 approach of Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton and is forced out of his own administration in the same manner as Flynn, it will become clear why once we learn who would replace him: Mike Pence.

No matter what one makes of Trump – or his administration and the policies that have been initiated thus far – the fact remains that Trump won the U.S. election. The people working behind the scenes to oust him are not subject to democratic controls, nor are they working in the best interests of the American public. We are left to ask ourselves exactly how renewing relations with Russia –  a nuclear power –  could possibly endanger American lives.

Either way, we are more or less left with two paths ahead of us. The first path involves Trump giving in and adopting an anti-Russian agenda, as is already apparent in his decision to send more ground troops to Syria alongside Saudi troops, who will intentionally oppose the Syrian regime (a close ally of Russia). The second involves the possibility of another direct coup within the Trump administration, this time one that may ultimately force Trump out of the White House so he can be replaced by Mike Pence, a war hawk who will be more than happy to do the job Hillary Clinton wanted to do.

(ZHE) President Trump on Saturday morning alleged that his predecessor Barack Obama had wire-tapped the Trump Tower in October, before the election: “Terrible! Just found out that Obama had my ‘wires tapped’ in Trump Tower just before the victory. Nothing found. This is McCarthyism!” he wrote.

A NEW LOW!” he added in subsequent tweets. “I’d bet a good lawyer could make a great case out of the fact that President Obama was tapping my phones in October, just prior to Election!”

It was not immediately clear what evidence or report Trump was referencing. On Friday night, Breitbart News reported on radio host Mark Levin’s claim that Obama executed a “silent coup” of Trump via “police state” tactics.

Since Trump has a tendency to tweet about things he has just seen on TV or read in the press, and since there has been no definitive report on that topic, Trump may be referencing an internal report. And since the allegations in his tweets are material, and will surely provoke a response by Barack Obama (at least his twitter account), this may escalate significantly.

Also on Saturday, prior to the wiretapping tweet, Trump had also linked Obama to Attorney General Jeff Sessions’s meetings last year with Russia’s U.S. ambassador.

Trump on Saturday also blasted Obama for meeting with Kislyak 22 times while president, as the Daily Caller reported first on Friday, tweeting: “Just out: The same Russian Ambassador that met Jeff Sessions visited the Obama White House 22 times, and 4 times last year alone.”

The Trump administration has sought to push back on accusations of being cozy with Moscow, by pointing out instances of Democrats meeting with Kislyak. Critics have responded that the issue isn’t that Sessions met with the ambassador, but that he falsely told Congress he hadn’t while under oath. So far, according to some media outlets, Trump has failed to “fend off” the Russia questions, which continue to reemerge virtually every night in some new front page story on the WaPo, NYT, in a recurring pattern as described in the following blog post.

National Park Service belittles President Trump on official Twitter account, forced to apologize

(INTELLIHUB) — The U.S. Department of the Interior’s National Park Service purposefully raised hell on its official government Twitter account last Friday during the Inauguration Ceremony when the NPS retweeted a tweet belittling the newly elected President.

The original tweet, made by Binyamin Appelbaum, a New York Times correspondent, read, “Compare the crowds: 2009 inauguration at left, 2017 inauguration at right” and featured a biased split image of Obama’s 2009 Inauguration vs. Trump’s 2017 Inauguration.

Despite the fact that the picture on the right depicting the 2017 Inauguration was taken early on, unfairly showing a light crowd, some people on Twitter took it as fact, which essentially started a shitstorm on Twitter, prompting a temporary shutdown of the NPS Twitter account after the agency issued an RT of Appelbaum’s tweet.

Of course, the guy who started all the havoc in the first place by tweeting out the original propaganda, which was later retweeted by the NPS, couldn’t resist a follow-up tweet alerting the Trump Admin of the problem he had inadvertently spawned.

“Looks like the Trump administration hasn’t taken control of the @NatlParkService Twitter feed just yet,” Appelbaum tweeted.

However, the National Park Service reactivated the account Saturday to issue an official apology.

“We regret the mistaken RTs from our account yesterday and look forward to continuing to share the beauty and history of our parks with you,” tweeted the National Park Service. The Tweet was posted along with a beautiful picture of a buffalo walking down a snow-covered road.

After the NPS’ Twitter account came back online Appelbaum again couldn’t resist another tweet stating, “Welcome back @natlparkservice. Hopefully the results of me retweeting you are different than the results of you retweeting me.”

Sadly, this is another clear example of how far these mainline media attention whores will go to in an attempt to remain relevant.
