The President"s twitter account disappeared shortly before 7 pm Thursday and was unavailable for just over ten minutes, providing the error message that the user "does not exist." But by 7:03 pm, it had been restored.

It is not clear what caused the outage, the Associated Press reported, and spokespeople for the White House and Twitter did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Trump hasn"t tweeted since the account was restored. Of course, many of Trump"s critics have complained that the president should shut down his account - and there was some speculation that he might do so after Gen. John Kelly took over as chief of staff. But the president has repeatedly said he believes retaining the ability to directly communicate with his supports is a valuable political tool.

Though it was short-lived, the outage prompted some hilarious reactions.

The FBI Confirms "Retweets Are Endorsements"

Remember when people put that “RTs ≠ endorsements” disclaimer in their Twitter bios, like that would offer some form of protection from the being associated with what they retweeted?

Well, a retweet can be seen as an endorsement. It can also apparently be used as evidence that you’re trying to join ISIS.

22-year-old Queens resident Ali Saleh was arrested this week following an FBI investigation into his attempts to join ISIS.

According to the complaint against him, Saleh began tweeting his plans in 2013. Saleh’s retweets came up repeatedly in the complaint as cause for arrest. Many of the specific examples given are time Saleh retweeted others from his various Twitter accounts:

On August 25, 2014, a few days before the reservation was made, Twitter Account A re-posted (or “retweeted”) the following message originally posted by another user: “I’m ready to die for the Caliphate, prison is nothing.”

On June 17, 2015, Twitter Account B retweeted the following message: “IS is winning battle of hearts and minds. People have started to realize that war is a necessity.

On August 5, 2015 Twitter Account D retweeted an audio message entitled “Come and join the Caliphate.”

The FBI has been using retweets as evidence against Twitter-happy ISIS wannabes in other cases, as well.

This summer a 17-year-old Virginia resident was arrested after regularly retweeting fawning statements about ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. So this is a tactic.

Plenty of people retweet pro-ISIS tweets for other reasons; to draw attention to how prevalent they are, for instance, or to ridicule them.

People retweet horrible shit all the time and it’s not cause for arrests: Lots of people started retweeting Dzhokhar Tsarnaev after they found his Twitter account after the Boston bombing, but these were more “Look! I found this guy!” gestures than a sudden surge of simpatico intentions.

The police can’t arrest someone for retweeting ISIS unless they have evidence that the intent behind the tweets signified someone acting with criminal intent. But if that’s the case, they seem to have no trouble making the assumption that a retweet is an unambiguous endorsement.

In other words, maybe cool it on ironic retweets of state enemies.

March on Google

In response to being fired, James Damore conservatives Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich have organized “March on Google” set for Saturday, August 19th anywhere google has offices.

“We are going to raise awareness about Google’s one-sided bias and campaign against dissenting opinions and voices,” Posobiec said, adding “Google’s firing of James Damore is the flashpoint here. An engineer fired for simply expressing an opinion that ran counter to Google’s politically-charged atmosphere of an “Ideological Echo Chamber” (Also the title of Damore’s memo).

Hundreds of people have reportedly signed up for the marches since Wednesday’s announcement.

Support for Damore

In addition to a huge swell of internal agreement with the controversial memo among Google employees, there has been an outpouring of conservatives offering everything from kind words to jobs in support of Damore from the likes of Wikileaks and Twitter alternative Gab.ai.

Gab CEO Andrew Torba elaborated on his job offer in an interview with Breitbart Tech.

Ever since the election season began, the left has been going "literally" apeshit over Trump"s usage of Twitter. In recent month"s they"ve been autistically screeching over it -- demanding that Jack Dorsey, CEO of Twitter, ban him. They"ve trotted out GOP deep state shills, neocons, professors, think tankfags -- all trying to dissuade the President from using a platform that communicates directly to the people.

The main stream media, feeling threatened by the President cutting them out from the middle man position, have been pursuing a scorched earth strategy -- attempting to remove him from the White House, while also reminding him that "voters" hate his fucking twitter account.

Today, Mika Brzezinski called out the men inside the White House for failing to stop the President from using his Twitter account.

Main stream media has been constant with their opeds, some even trying to accuse the President"s use of the social media platform as "unconstitutional." Here are just as handle of titles by those livid with the President.

If Trump is such a dunce for tweeting and is hurting himself politically, why the fuck do the leftards care? If anything, they should be elated by it -- since it only serves to hurt him, as they so readily like to say. Another theory is they"re control freaks who chimp out at the idea that Trump crushed Hillary Clinton, whilst spending 1/3rd of her campaign budget on traditional media, catching waves and having fun --  memeing all day like a boss on Twitter -- shitposting his way into the oval office.

If You Care About Privacy, You Should Change Your Twitter Settings Right Now

Since Wednesday, Twitter has been sending out emails and notifications to its over 300 million monthly users to inform them of changes to their privacy policy.

The new policy, which goes into effect on June 18, includes changes to data collection, data sharing, and digital advertising. The policy is being run on an ‘opt-out’ basis, meaning that if users do not actively change their settings, these policies will automatically be applied to their accounts.

While Twitter hailed the new policy in their mass email sent out Sunday as one that “dovetails with our heartbeat as a company — a commitment to protecting and defending your privacy,” groups like the Electronic Frontier Foundation are not so enthusiastic.

“Contrary to the inviting ‘Sounds good’ button to accept the new policy and get to tweeting, the changes Twitter has made around user tracking and data personalization do not sound good for user privacy,” EFF researcher Gennie Gebhart writes.

EFF, along with Life Hacker and CNET, are encouraging users to customize their privacy settings now before the new changes are automatically enabled in June.

With the new policy, Twitter will be keeping logs for users’ web histories for 30 days instead of 10, a move that Jules Polonetsky, CEO of the Future of Privacy Forum, says expands the pool of people it can track and allows Twitter to make more comprehensive profiles of users.

Interestingly, this change will not apply to E.U. member countries because Europe’s restrictive privacy laws prohibit it.

Twitter also discontinued support for the Do Not Track browser option, which previously allowed users to protect against targeted advertising.

The reason for the change, says TopTechNews.com writer Barbara Ortutay, is therefore clearly not about privacy, but money.

“Targeted ads that are tailored to your whims and tastes are more lucrative than generic ones,” Ortutay writes.

Whether for privacy or profit, the changes are coming. Fortunately, it’s up to users to change their settings and decide how much they want to share.

CNET offers this simple how-to: “Open Settings and go to Settings and privacy > Privacy and safety > Personalization and data. At the top of this page is an option to disable all personalization and data settings; on the Twitter website, click the Disable all.”

EFF notes that users can also review, edit, and/or remove data collected on them in the past by accessing the “Your Twitter data” option also located in settings.

Trump Tweets 'Like-ability' Tumbles

Twitter users are showing President Trump less love than they did at the start of his term.

What’s driving the downward trend? Bloomberg notes several factors could be at play. The president’s approval rating has declined since he took office; enthusiasm for his brand of commentary may be waning; and, of course, newer tweets have simply had less time to accumulate likes, though most likes are usually awarded shortly after a tweet’s publication.

Trump says he prefers Twitter because he wants to work around the mainstream media’s filter.

“When the media takes my message, knows what my message is and then writes it purposely so it doesn’t sound good, I’d rather do Twitter,” he said a few days after taking office.

But, as AP reports, Twitter appears to have its own partisan filter. Reaction to Trump’s tweets break down sharply along partisan lines, with conservatives more likely to retweet without commentary while liberals are for more likely to respond to a tweet and, presumably, disagree. About 96 percent of those who simply retweet the president’s words are right-leaning, according to the analysis, while about 54 percent of his replies come from left-leaning users. Verified accounts — often journalists, celebrities, politicians or other public figures — are 70% more likely to weigh in on Trump’s tweets by quoting them, interjecting their own voices to the discussion.

However, as Bloomberg reports, the decline has not affected the president’s ability to use Twitter to deliver his message. Any tweet from @realDonaldTrump is still capable of taking over a news cycle. Trump’s tweet on May 2 calling for “a good ‘shutdown’ in September” had garnered only about 58,000 likes as of Wednesday morning yet had generated stories in the New York Times, The Washington Post, the Fox News website, Breitbart, and Bloomberg News.

For example, I’m the largest LP at Obvious Ventures, which is now on its second fund and has invested in over 35 world-positive companies. In addition, my wife and I have done a fair amount of philanthropic giving and—especially in the last year—upped our political donations significantly ????. These are all efforts to help build a smarter, more sustainable world. I’ve been doing all of them for a while, and I’d like to continue."

If you’re not a Twitter shareholder or employee (or reporter who covers such things), this is exceedingly uninteresting?—?check out the Medium homepage instead. If you are, I wanted to provide some context, in anticipation of potential speculation due to a public filing today.

The vast majority of my assets are in the form of Twitter stock, as has been the case since, well, since it was worth much. That will continue to be the case for the foreseeable future. While reports are rolling in about Twitter censoring or curating President Trump"s tweets (at least some of which Trump is aware of), outrage is building over the increasingly Orwellian suspensions of conservatives - the latest being a 2 week old account which was apparently way too honest about Social Justice Warriors (activist idiots).
