RenTech Founder Jim Simons "Urged" CEO Mercer To Resign Over His Support For Breitbart

Last week, the financial world was shaken when billionaire Robert Mercer, co-CEO of RenTec which is arguably the world"s most profitable and secretive hedge fund, announced he was quitting on Jan 1, 2018. While the prominent Trump and Bannon supporter did not reveal the reason behind his departure, he did make it clear that he does not agree with everything Steve Bannon does and say, and made it very clear that he is especially disappointed with outspoken conservative media personality, Milo Yiannopoulos, whom he threw under the proverbial bus saying "actions by Yiannopoulos have caused pain and divisiveness undermining the open and productive discourse that I had hoped to facilitate."

Now, in a follow up report from Bloomberg, it has emerged that Mercer did not quit RenTec out of his own volition, but was instead pushed out by Rentec"s retired founder, and prominent Democrat and Clinton supporter, Jim Simmons. According to Bloomberg, Simons urged Robert Mercer "to step down from his role as co-chief executive officer over concerns that his backing of Breitbart News was hurting morale at the world’s most profitable hedge fund."

Which is another way of saying that Mercer"s support of Trump"s policies, Steve Bannon (not to mention monetary investment in Breitbart) cost him his job.

That, perhaps, is not surprising: after all, in recent months, Mercer’s personal political projects dragged what has otherwise been the world"s most secretive firm into the national spotlight. As a result, a backlash from RenTec"s founder, and ideological opposite of Mercer was to be expected. Simons, who is a major donor to Democratic causes, negotiated Mercer’s move from top executive to researcher at the computer-driven firm over the past three months, one of the people said. Mercer’s role will change on Jan.

Mercer and his daughter, Rebekah, are prominent Republican donors and patrons of Stephen Bannon, chairman of Breitbart News, a website that backs the nationalist movement that helped elect President Donald Trump.

"I appreciated Bob’s willingness to take this step," Simons said Monday night while attending a fundraiser for the New York Public Library.

While Simons had never spoken publicly about Mercer’s political views, he has expressed his own opinions about Trump. At a speech in New York City in late October, Simons said “I think it’s basically terrible that we have a president remotely like our current president. We’ve had some doozies but never of that caliber.”

As Bloomberg adds, Mercer had become over the past year a lightning rod for activists. One group had begun targeting Renaissance Technologies’ investors to encourage them to fire the money manager.

Simons was supposedly less concerned about an investor revolt than he was about employee morale and recruitment, according to one of the people. That is explainable: in the past month, RenTech received a net $1 billion in inflows this month.

In a memo sent last week to employees to announce his resignation as co-CEO and member of the board, Mercer said he sold his stake in Breitbart News to his daughters. He also said that he was "mistaken to have supported" Milo Yiannopoulos, a former Breitbart writer, and was severing ties with him because statements by Yiannopoulos have caused "pain and divisiveness."

Bannon On GOP Establishment: "We're Coming After All Of Them And We're Going To Win"

Last night on the Sean Hannity show, Breitbart executive chairman and former Trump chief strategist Steve Bannon doubled down on his previously announced "war on the Republican establishment" vowing to, among other things, "challenge every Republican incumbent except for Ted Cruz" in the upcoming mid-term election cycle.

100%. We are declaring war on the Republican establishment that does not back the agenda that Donald Trump ran on and the president of the United States, and that"s the agenda we know that backs the working men and women...

Karl Rove, Steven Law, these guys should get the joke. Their donors are coming to us because they are tired of having their money burned up by trying to destroy people like Judge Moore. It"s a new game in town. We are going to cut off the oxygen to Mitch McConnell. Mitch McConnell"s biggest asset is the money. We"re going to make it the biggest liability. We"re going after these guys tooth and nail.

They have to understand. There"s a basic agenda that President Trump rand on and won. He carried states that Republicans haven"t carried in living memory -- Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania. This agenda works. The American people voted for it. It"s their responsibility.

There"s a coalition coming together. It"s going to challenge every Republican incumbent except for Ted Cruz. Whether it"s Utah, Wyoming, whether it"s in Oregon.

These names are all going to come out in the next several weeks.

Bannon

In a fiery interview, Bannon also called on Senator Bob Corker, who recently engaged in what has turned into a surreal social media battle royale with President Trump, to resign immediately after describing him as an "absolute disgrace."

And I tell you what, Senator Corker is an absolute disgrace. And I agree with Jason Miller, who was the comms director on our campaign, I think one of the best comms people around. Jason"s on CNN, but he never talks out of school... on CNN today, he called for Senator Corker to resign. For the Governor of Tennessee to replace him with [Congresswoman] Marsha Blackburn, a real conservative.

If Bob Corker has any honor, any decency, he should resign immediately. He should not let those words stand, what he said about the president of the United States... By the way, he got out because he saw what happened in Alabama. If he wants to -- by the way, he should get back in because he"s going to get crushed in a primary. He doesn"t have the guts to get in -- he doesn"t have the guts to get back in the race. He should resign immediately.

Finally, here is Bannon on why the Obamacare repeal failed...you guessed it, the GOP establishment.

Phil Rucker, yesterday in The Washington Post, the buried lede was he said there"s only two or three Senators on Capitol Hill that have President Trump"s back. When you want to talk about why there"s no repeal and replace, why there"s no tax cut, why there"s no tax reform, why there"s no infrastructure bill, you saw it right there. Corker, McConnell that entire clique of -- establishment globalist clique on Capitol Hill have to go. If we need any more proof about what they think, you heard it tonight. It"s an absolute disgrace...

They have total contempt for the forgotten man. They have total contempt for the base. That"s what you saw in Alabama. In Alabama when they came in with Luther Strange, with $32 million to destroy Judge Roy Moore you saw what the base thought of them. The base totally rejected him. These people have no respect for the working men and women in the United States. And I tell you what, Senator Corker is an absolute disgrace.

And here is the full clip for your viewing pleasure:

Trump Bars Breitbart From Alabama Rally As Feud With Bannon Escalates

Apparently, this is what Steve Bannon meant when he swore he would never turn on his old boss during a series of interviews he gave after leaving the West Wing.

The simmering feud between Breitbart and President Donald Trump intensified on Friday as the Trump communications team barred a Breitbart reporter from the press pool during a Trump rally in Alabama, where the president was campaigning for Luther Strange (aka "Big L") - his pick to permanently fill the Alabama senate seat vacated by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

Trump announced his support for Strange weeks ago, eliciting howls of outrage from Bannon and Breitbart, who have accused Strange of being a “swamp creature” and blasted him for his association with former Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley, who resigned earlier this year following a widely publicized sex scandal. Strange served as attorney general of Alabama (Sessions’ old job) under Bentley, and has been working with Trump for months after being appointed by Bentley to temporarily fill Sessions" old seat.

But for better or worse, Strange is Trump"s man - for now, at least - and the president showered him with praise during the rally. But while cycling through his greatest hits (everything from the second amendment, to Hillary-bashing, to his promised border wall), he found time to slip in a subtle dig at Bannon, joking that he had "fired" certain former staffers for disloyalty. Bannon and Breitbart have consistently supported  Alabama Supreme Court Roy Moore, who will face off against Strange in Tuesday"s crucial Republican runoff primary.

Anyone who has closely followed the many staffing changes at the White House will, of course, remember that Bannon and the White House communications department have offered conflicting accounts of the terms of his departure, with Bannon insisting that he left voluntarily, while the communications staff have suggested that he was fired.

A similar ambiguity exists surrounding the terms of Bannon loyalist and former Breitbart employee Sebastian Gorka"s departure, who, as luck would have it, appeared on Fox Business just minutes before Trump took the stage to slam the president over his support for Strange.

In a brief segment, Gorka criticized Strange for his association with Bentley and claimed that Moore was the true “MAGA” candidate.

* * *

Of course, when Bannon – who is back running Breitbart – promised that he wouldn’t use the website as a cudgel against Trump, he did so with the caveat that Breitbart would hold the administration accountable should it abandon the nationalist, populist agenda that Trump promised the American people during the campaign.

To wit, Breitbart has become increasingly frustrated with Trump’s perceived abdication of his nationalist agenda by sending more troops to Afghanistan (after promising to bring troops home) and, more intolerably, his decision to allow DACA to be preserved in law by striking a deal with “Chuck and Nancy.”

And now it’s decided to turn its guns on Trump, publishing now fewer than hald a dozen anti-Strange or anti-Trump headlines during the Trump rally last night.

* * *

And now, Axios is reporting that Steve Bannon has been confirmed to headline a Roy Moore rally in Alabama Sunday night, alongside Phil Robertson of the popular show “Duck Dynasty.” Axios, which noted that Strange is also the pick of Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, a perennial Bannon foe, explained that “for Bannon to make a rare public appearance in such close proximity to Trump shows how invested he is in the race specifically, and attacking McConnell more generally.” But in attacking McConnell, in this instance, he is also striking at Trump.

In keeping with his promise to always support Trump against the establishment forces that Bannon says are trying to co-opt the Trump presidency, Axios reported that the Bannon camp is trying to spin the attacks against Strange as an indirect way of “supporting” Trump.

"Steve is coming to Alabama to support President Trump against the Washington establishment and Mitch McConnell. Steve views Judge Moore as a fierce advocate of Trump and the values he campaigned on."

To be sure, Breitbart’s strategy may be working. Trump appeared to admit during the rally last night that his Strange endorsement may have been a mistake, and that he would support Moore if he wins.

While the crowd at Friday’s rally cheered mightily for Trump, the cheers for his chosen candidate were less enthusiastic. As of Saturday afternoon, Moore leads Strange by nearly 9 percentage points in the RealClearPolitics polling average.

Whoever wins Tuesday’s primary has a virtual lock on the senate seat. And as the race draws closer, we expect to hear more from Trump. But will Breitbart succeed in convincing him to change his endorsement?

Given Trump’s distaste for “losers”, we imagine it’s not out of the question.

Details Of Steve Bannon's "Closed To The Press" China Speech Leak

Earlier this morning former White House Strategist Steve Bannon spoke at the CLSA investor forum in Hong Kong.  While the event was originally intended to be open to the press via a live stream, CLSA officials later closed the interview to outsiders...presumably Bannon"s flare doesn"t quite fit with China"s desire to control media narratives. That said, luckily one local NEAsia correspondent, Wei Du, was kind enough to live tweet portions of Bannon"s speech for our reading pleasure.

Ironically, what was billed to be an "anti-China" speech turned out to be anything but that with Bannon repeatedly praising U.S.-China relations and saying "there isn"t a world leader he (Trump) respects more than the President of China."  Bannon went on to say that Trump will visit China in November and that the downside of an "economic war" with China is so huge that it has to be worked out.

On domestic issues, Bannon thinks a tax reform deal is pretty unlikely this year and that Paul Ryan"s border tax adjustment has "ZERO chance of passing."  Of course, we can only assume that no tax deal in 2017 is a positive for stocks because it must mean that more time will allow for an even greater tax bill in 2018.

That said, Bannon would apparently prefer that Trump avoid "working with dems."

Bannon

On "America First," Bannon said there is a "big misunderstanding" that the term implies isolationism when it was really intended to mean that the Trump administration will pursue bilateral deals as opposed large, multi-nation accords where American sovereignty is sacrificed.

On future plans, Bannon said that he left the White House because Trump needed a "wing man" on the outside and that he has plans to expand Breitbart News internationally.

Finally, apparently Bannon is not a "yuge" fan of Google and/or Facebook...

"Bannon Declares War On The GOP": Key Highlights From His 60 Minutes Interview

Steve Bannon appeared on 60 Minutes Sunday night in his first-ever TV interview. The full interview, which Charlie Rose defined as the one in which "Bannon declared war on the GOP", can be watched, with a full transcript, below (link):

Here is Charlie Rose"s introduction:

Former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon, during his brief tenure in the West Wing and his few months as CEO of President Trump"s campaign, earned many nicknames among his admirers and his ever-expanding list of enemies. He was the "great manipulator," "Trump"s Svengali," "the Grim Reaper," "Propagandist-in-chief."

He describes himself as a "streetfighter." And he proved it in this, his first-ever television interview.  Bannon is back running Breitbart News -- the website where the alt-right and conspiracy theories meet conventional conservatives. The streetfighter, shiv-in-hand came ready to brawl, and not with liberals or Democrats.

... but with the "Republican establishment." For those pressed on time, courtesy of Axios, here are Bannon"s most notable quotes, starting with his war with the GOP: "The Republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election. That"s a brutal fact we have to face."

  • On "the establishment": "In the 48 hours after we won, there"s a fundamental decision that was made. You might call it the original sin of the administration. We embraced the establishment. I mean, we totally embraced the establishment ... Because ya had to staff a government."

  • On his relationship with the president: "I think I"m a street fighter. And by the way, I think that"s why Donald Trump and I get along so well. Donald Trump"s a fighter. Great counter puncher. Great counter puncher. He"s a fighter. I"m going to be his wing man outside for the entire time, to protect [Trump]" and "to make sure his enemies know that there"s no free shot on goal."

  • On Trump"s Charlottesville remarks: "I was the only guy that came out and tried to defend him."

  • On the "Swamp": "The Republican establishment is trying to nullify the 2016 election. That"s a brutal fact we have to face."

  • On Gary Cohn"s critical interview with the Financial Times: "If you don"t like what [Trump"s] doing and you don"t agree with it, you have an obligation to resign."

  • On Republican criticism of Trump"s national security strategy: "That"s the geniuses of the Bush administration. I hold these people in contempt, total and complete contempt ... They"re idiots, and they"ve gotten us in this situation, and they question a good man like Donald Trump," Bannon said, naming Condoleezza Rice, Brent Scowcroft and Colin Powell.

  • On Economic Nationalism: ""Economic nationalism is what this country was built on. The American system. Right? We go back to that. We look after our own.""

  • On the Russia investigation: "It"s a total and complete farce. Russian collusion is a farce."

  • On Trump"s tweets: "He knows he"s speaking directly to the people who put him in office when he uses Twitter ... [General Kelly"s] not going to be able to control it either because it"s Donald Trump."

  • On campaign discussions following the Access Hollywood tape"s release: "Trump went around the room and asked people the percentages he thought of still winning and what the recommendation. And Reince started off and Reince said, "You have two choices. You either drop out right now, or you lose by the biggest landslide in American political history." ... And I told him as he went around, I was the last guy to speak, and I said, "It"s 100%. You have 100% probability of winning.""

  • On the Catholic Church: "Because unable to really to come to grips with the problems in the church, they need illegal aliens, they need illegal aliens to fill the churches."

"Fake News" Exposed: Louise Mensch Duped By Hoaxer

The woman who has been widely credited with the creation of the “liberal conspiracy theory” has – finally and definitively – been proven a fraud. According to the Guardian, Louise Mensch and her writing partner Claude Taylor published “bogus” allegations about President Donald Trump that had been fed to them by a hoaxer who claimed to work for New York Attorney General (and longtime Trump antagonist) Eric Schneiderman.

Mensch, a former British MP who moved to the US with her American husband a few years back to found the now-defunct Rupert Murdoch-backed conservative news website Heat Street, has garnered a large following (she has some 300,000 followers on Twitter) thanks to her “scoops” about the Russia investigation. Her "exclusives" have included patently false "stories" like her claim that the FBI had issued a sealed indictment for the president. She once suggested that Russian President Vladimir Putin had Breitbart News founder Andrew Breitbart murdered to clear the way for Steve Bannon, Trump’s former chief strategist, allowing Bannon to guide Trump to electoral victory - an assertion for which she was resoundingly mocked.

The Guardian confirmed that another one of Mensch’s claims – that Trump’s inactive fashion agency is under investigation for alleged sex trafficking – was solely sourced to the hoaxer.

“Claude Taylor tweeted fake details of criminal inquiries into Trump that were invented by a source whose claim to work for the New York attorney general was not checked, according to emails seen by the Guardian. The allegations were endorsed as authentic and retweeted by his co-writer Louise Mensch.

The source’s false tips included an allegation, which has been aggressively circulated by Mensch and Taylor, that Trump’s inactive fashion model agency is under investigation by New York authorities for possible sex trafficking.”

The hoaxer said she acted out of a “frustration with fake news” after reading other obviously ridiculous reports published by Taylor and Mensch.

“The hoaxer, who fed the information to Taylor by email, said she acted out of frustration over the “dissemination of fake news” by Taylor and Mensch. Their false stories about Trump have included a claim that the president was already removed from office in a process kept secret from the American public.

Taylor asked no questions to verify my identity, did no vetting whatsoever, sought no confirmation from a second source – but instead asked leading questions to support his various theories, asking me to verify them,” the source said in an email.”

Mensch’s assertions have occasionally osmosed into the mainstream media. In March, the New York Times published an op-ed by Mensch advising members of Congress on how to proceed with their investigations into Trump’s Russia ties. The op-ed came after the paper backed up her still-unverified claim that a FISA warrant had been issued to surveille the Trump Organization. As the Guardian notes, Sen. Ed Markley (D-Mass) was forced to apologize earlier this year after repeating Mensch’s claim that Trump was under investigation.

“During a television interview earlier this year, Senator Ed Markey of Massachusetts repeated unverified information about the inquiries into Trump and Russia that he had gleaned from Mensch’s website. He later withdrew the comment.

Amy Spitalnick, a spokeswoman for Schneiderman, said in a statement that the incident highlighted the importance of using “legitimate news outlets, which know to verify their sources and their facts”

Joe Scarborough once repeated one of Taylor and Mensch’s false claims on his show, MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

“The bogus source first contacted Taylor by email on 20 July with an email titled “NYAG investigation”. Earlier that day, MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough had quoted approvingly from an online post by Taylor, describing it as “one of the best tweets of the past month.”

Mensch and Taylor eagerly embellished the false claims fed to them by the leaker, insinuating that they knew more than the leaker had shared with them.

“After being asked by a follower for more information, Taylor claimed to know even more than the hoaxer had told him. “I have few details but apparently the possibility exists that our president has been a sex trafficker,” he said.

Mensch then weighed in, reposting this false claim by Taylor and adding a vague allegation of her own that the full story was even worse.

Taylor and Mensch also repeated an invented claim from the source that former president Bill Clinton knew of criminal wrongdoing by Trump’s model agency and was was preparing to testify for the prosecution. Taylor posted another series of tweets making lurid allegations about Trump’s model agency that yet again matched invented claims supplied to him in emails from the hoaxer.”

The Guardian published the contents of the hoaxer’s emails with Taylor alongside Taylor and Mensch’s tweets about the false claims, which neither of them bothered to try and verify (note the liberal use of the hashtag #PIMPOTUS).

Sebastian Gorka Resigns From White House Post

A week after the White House pushed out former chief strategist Steve Bannon, the Trump administration has lost another controversial staffer. The departee this week is Sebastian Gorka, a deputy assistant to the president and former Breitbart employee who was closely allied with the White House’s rapidly shrinking anti-globalist faction. News of Gorka’s resignation was first reported by the Federalist, and later confirmed by Axios and a host of other news outlets.

As with Bannon’s ouster last week, the storyline of who said what when has gotten muddled: Gorka claimed he resigned, while the White House insinuated that he was pushed out.

News of Gorka’s ouster broke shortly after Trump announced that he would be pardoning sheriff Joe Arpaio, a decision that was widely expected after Trump hinted that he “wouldn’t do it tonight” at a rally in Phoenix earlier this week. It also comes as Hurricane Harvey, which has been upgraded to a category four hurricane, is threatening to lay waste to the southwest.

In a copy of Gorka’s bluntly worded resignation, which he leaked to the Federalist, the former staffer “expressed dissatisfaction with the current state of the Trump administration.”

“[G]iven recent events, it is clear to me that forces that do not support the MAGA promise are – for now – ascendant within the White House,” Gorka wrote. “As a result, the best and most effective way I can support you, Mr. President, is from outside the People’s House.”

In the letter, Gorka blamed the president"s failure to outline a plan for exiting Afghanistan after “16 years of disastrous policy decisions" for being the final straw. He also criticized the president and his military advisers for omitting any mention of Radical Islam from the president"s statement on Afghanistan, delivered earlier this week.

“Regrettably, outside of yourself, the individuals who most embodied and represented the policies that will ‘Make America Great Again,’ have been internally countered, systematically removed, or undermined in recent months. This was made patently obvious as I read the text of your speech on Afghanistan this week…

“The fact that those who drafted and approved the speech removed any mention of Radical Islam or radical Islamic terrorism proves that a crucial element of your presidential campaign has been lost…

“Just as worrying, when discussing our future actions in the region, the speech listed operational objectives without ever defining the strategic victory conditions we are fighting for. This omission should seriously disturb any national security professional, and any American who is unsatisfied with the last 16 years of disastrous policy decisions which have led to thousands of Americans killed and trillions of taxpayer dollars spent in ways that have not brought security or victory.”

Echoing comments made by Bannon following his ouster last week, Gorka reportedly told the president that he could better serve his America First agenda from the outside: "[I]t is clear to me that forces that do not support the MAGA promise are – for now – ascendant within the White House..."

That"s probably not far from the truth. As Axios points out, Gorka, a self styled national security and counterterrorism expert, was best known for his fiery television appearances, his only real contribution to the administration, and the quality that initially endeared him to the president. Gorka can easily keep up his TV schedule from outside of the West Wing. Gorka was widely reviled by Trump opponents because of his reputed affiliation with Hungarian nationalist group Vitezi Rend.

According to Axios, Gorka"s resignation is a sign that Chief of Staff John Kelly is tightening control of the White House"s sprawling, unaccountable fiefdoms.

The White House communications department confirmed that Gorka was no longer employed at the White House, but wouldn"t comment on whether he was fired or left voluntarily, according to ABC.

"I can confirm he no longer works at the White House,” the official said.

His ouster brings the number of officials who have been fired or otherwise departed the Trump administration to 14:

Finally, with the ouster of Bannon, the list of high-ranking personnel fired by Trump rises to 14. They are:

Sally Yates
Michael Flynn
Katie Walsh
Preet Bharara
James Comey
Michael Dubke
Walter Shaub
Mark Corralo
Sean Spicer
Micheal Short
Reince Priebus
Anthony Scaramucci
Steve Bannon
Sebastian Gorka

Problems Too Big And Too Many To Fix: Trump Will Be The Fall Guy

Authored by Mike Shedlock via MishTalk.com,

The axe fell on Steve Bannon Friday.

Mid-day, mainstream media proclaimed stocks were up because of the firing. Stocks closed the day down. Apparently, stocks were both up and down due to Bannon.

Now Bannon is Back on the Outside, back at Breitbart, and happy to be there.

Stephen K. Bannon has always been more comfortable when he was trying to tear down institutions — not work inside them.

With his return to Breitbart News, Mr. Bannon will be free to lead the kind of ferocious assault on the political establishment that he relishes, even if sometimes that means turning his wrath on the White House itself.

Hours after his ouster from the West Wing, he was named to his former position of executive chairman at the hard-charging right-wing website and led its evening editorial meeting. And Mr. Bannon appeared eager to move onto his next fight.

“In many ways, I think I can be more effective fighting from the outside for the agenda President Trump ran on,” he said Friday. “And anyone who stands in our way, we will go to war with.”

Among those already in Mr. Bannon’s sights: Speaker Paul D. Ryan; Senator Mitch McConnell, the majority leader; the president’s daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law, Jared Kushner; and Gary D. Cohn, the former president of Goldman Sachs who now directs the White House’s National Economic Council.

Thanks But No Thanks

Trump thanked Bannon for his help during the campaign, but not for his tenure in the White House.

New York Times Parting Shot

The New York Times editorial, Exit Steve Bannon, gave Banon a swift kick on his way out the door.

Mr. Bannon’s exit is, of course, a relief. As the well-financed Pied Piper of the alt-right Breitbart crowd, Mr. Bannon at the pinnacle of White House policy making was a nightmare come to life.

But Mr. Bannon, who promptly returned to Breitbart as its executive chairman on Friday, still poses a danger for our broader politics. Outside the White House, he is freer to rally his forces against anyone who doesn’t toe his nationalist-protectionist line. A Bannon-led right-wing backlash against Mr. Trump, who unleashed the worst impulses of nationalists in service to himself, would be a fitting comeuppance.

More Fun to Throw Mud

Clearly, it’s far more fun to throw mud than have it thrown at you.

Lost in the Bannon and Trump bashing is one key question: Who is really the bigger threat, Hillary, Trump, or Bannon?

Why We Are Where We Are

We are in this mess because Obamanomics, war-mongering, Fed policies, and social handouts created a budget mess but did not solve any problems. People revolted, and Trump got elected.

When it comes to trade and protectionism, Trump is wrong. So is Bannon.

Those who think Hillary would have been any better on trade policy are mistaken. If you believe differently, then please take Today’s Quiz: Donald Trump, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton – Who Said It?

We would have a no-fly zone over Syria, had Hillary won. That would have risked a confrontation with Russia. Hillary wrecked Libya, and of course Obama and Bush had extremely misguided warmongering policies in the Mideast.

Obamacare was a failure, but no one on either side seems able or willing to fix it.

So here we are, with everything broken, and we still cannot get anything done. Republicans want more military spending and Democrats want more social spending. Warmongers on both sides want more war.

Art of Compromise

Compromise in Washington is more military spending and more social spending.

Repetitive “compromises” sent deficits soaring out of sight. On top of it all, the Fed blew massive bubbles in just about everything.

Problems Too Big and Too Many To Fix

One thing I expect Trump will get right, at least from a public union standpoint, regards appointments to the supreme court.

Overall, I hoped Trump would do better on many fronts. It was not to be. Trump could not drain the swamp. Partisan politics interfered, there was too much infighting, and there is nonsensical Russia bashing on both sides of the aisle.

The problems are too big and too many to fix. If you think Hillary would have fixed them you are delusional.

"They're Going Thermonuclear": Breitbart Declares "War" On The White House

The love affair between Breitbart, whose former head Steve Bannon was just fired by Donald Trump, just turned to hate, as confirmed by Joel Pollak, a Breitbart Editor, who moments ago tweeted one word:

As Axios" Jonathan Swan explains, "Joel is a Breitbart editor. They"re going thermonuclear, I"m told. "

Separately, as iBankCoin reports, investigative journalist and former Breitbart employee, Lee Stranahan, offered a quick quip on today’s news that Bannon has resigned from the White House, suggesting that Steve would ‘unleash the beast’ through his online publication and call out those working against the Trump agenda in the White House.

Stranahan has been a long time loyalist to Bannon and ardent opponent to several people inside Trump’s White House, namely McMaster, Powell and Cohn. The theory he’s putting forth is that Bannon will have more power outside the White House than inside. While that might be true for Steve, I fail to see how fomenting more internal strife inside the Trump White House will be constructive at this point.

Nevertheless, it’s about to get real interesting soon. Watch

As for what Steve Bannon"s next steps would be, Axios reports that it "will be all about the billionaire Mercer family."

I"m told Bannon, who visited New York this week, met with Bob Mercer and together they will be a well-funded force on the outside.

  • Bannon has felt liberated since it became clear he was being pushed out, according to friends. He"s told associates he has a "killing machine" in Breitbart News, and it"s possible he returns to lead their editorial operation.

  • A source familiar with Breitbart"s operations told me they would go "thermonuclear" against "globalists" that Bannon and his friends believe are ruining the Trump administration, and by extension, America.

  • Watch for Breitbart"s Washington Editor Matt Boyle to be a central figure in this war — which has already begun — against White House officials like HR McMaster, Dina Powell, Gary Cohn, and Jared and Ivanka.

Then again, Trump may be spared. As Politico"s Robert Costa tweets, "One theme I"m picking up: Bannon believes next battle is *not* w/ Trump but w/ Kushner/Cohn/Dina/HR McMaster. "Save Trump," as one R put it."

Bannon Speaks: "I'm Going To War For Trump"

Update: that was quick. As Breitbart"s Charlie Spiering reports, Bannon jas returned to Breitbart News as Executive Chairman of Breitbart News "and chaired our evening editorial meeting"

As The Hill adds, Bannon reclaimed the title of Breitbart"s executive chairman and directed the outlet’s Friday editorial meeting, the website said in a statement on Friday.

“The populist-nationalist movement got a lot stronger today,” said Breitbart News Editor-in-Chief Alex Marlow. “Breitbart gained an executive chairman with his finger on the pulse of the Trump agenda.

As chairman, Bannon oversaw massive growth of the populist website before leaving to be chairman of Trump’s campaign. Bannon never settled into his role as chief strategist in the White House, where he feuded bitterly with ideological rivals like Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, economic adviser Gary Cohn and national security adviser H.R. McMaster.

Breitbart eagerly accepted Bannon back into the fold. “Breitbart’s pace of global expansion will only accelerate with Steve back,” said Breitbart president Larry Solov. “The sky’s the limit.”

* * *

While Breitbart has warned of war "against" Trump - should he break from the policies upon which he was elected - former White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon has spoken for the first time since being fired today.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Bannon said he was "going to war" for Trump...

If there’s any confusion out there, let me clear it up.

I’m leaving the White House and going to war for Trump against his opponents... on Capitol Hill, in the media, and in corporate America,

So, war it is!

Presumably, being outside The White House allows him more freedom to pursue his tactics. The question is - given the narrative being spun is he resigned by mutual agreement - does Bannon stil have Trump"s ear? And if so, will Cohn, Kelly, and Kushner stand for it? We already know his agenda is anything but in line with theirs.

Notably The White House formally launched a probe of China"s intellectual property practices tonight - invoking Section 301 just as Bannon had said.

With regard his internal adversaries, at the departments of State and Defense, who think the United States can enlist Beijing’s aid on the North Korean standoff, and at Treasury and the National Economic Council who don’t want to mess with the trading system, Bannon was ever harsher...

“Oh, they’re wetting themselves,” he said, explaining that the Section 301 complaint, which was put on hold when the war of threats with North Korea broke out, was shelved only temporarily, and will be revived in three weeks. As for other cabinet departments, Bannon has big plans to marginalize their influence.

“That’s a fight I fight every day here,” he said. “We’re still fighting. There’s Treasury and [National Economic Council chair] Gary Cohn and Goldman Sachs lobbying.”

“We gotta do this. The president’s default position is to do it, but the apparatus is going crazy. Don’t get me wrong. It’s like, every day.”

Bannon dismissed the far-right as irrelevant:

“Ethno-nationalism—it"s losers. It"s a fringe element. I think the media plays it up too much, and we gotta help crush it, you know, uh, help crush it more.”

“These guys are a collection of clowns,” he added.

And finally, Bannon scoffed at The Democrats...

“...the longer they talk about identity politics, I got ’em. I want them to talk about racism every day. If the left is focused on race and identity, and we go with economic nationalism, we can crush the Democrats.

Kurt Bardella, a Republican communications specialist who worked for Bannon at Breitbart but later denounced him, predicts the strategist would "feel liberated" by his departure.

"Now, he will be able to operate openly and freely to inflict as much damage as he possibly can on the ‘globalists’ that remain in the Trump Administration."

Speculation Of Bannon's Demise Floods The Media, Again

Bannon"s imminent demise has been predicted by the media on so many different occasions since Trump moved into the White House that we"ve lost count.  Not surprisingly, the media sometimes has difficultly deciphering between "news" and the propagation of their own wishful thinking.  We noted a couple of the false alarms here:

But, despite their inaccurate past predictions, the rampant speculation of Bannon"s early demise rages on in the mainstream media with the latest installment coming from the New York Times.

Rupert Murdoch has repeatedly urged President Trump to fire him. Anthony Scaramucci, the president’s former communications director, thrashed him on television as a white nationalist. Lt. Gen. H. R. McMaster, the national security adviser, refused to even say he could work with him.

For months, Mr. Trump has considered ousting Stephen K. Bannon, the White House chief strategist and relentless nationalist who ran the Breitbart website and called it a “platform for the alt-right.” Mr. Trump has sent Mr. Bannon to a kind of internal exile, and has not met face-to-face for more than a week with a man who was once a fixture in the Oval Office, according to aides and friends of the president.

But the choice might not be his. At a recent dinner at the White House with Mr. Kushner and Mr. Kelly, before Mr. Trump decamped for a working vacation at his private golf club in Bedminster, N.J., the president listened while one of the guests, Mr. Murdoch, a founder of Fox News, said Mr. Bannon had to go.

Mr. Trump offered little pushback, according to a person familiar with the conversation, and vented his frustrations about Mr. Bannon. Mr. Murdoch is close to Mr. Kushner, who has been in open warfare with Mr. Bannon since the spring.

Bannon

Meanwhile, Anthony Scaramucci, who lasted all of 10 days in the White House, once again took shots at Bannon last night in an interview with Stephen Colbert saying "if it was up to me, he"d be gone."

According to the New York Times, Bannon has allegedly hedged his future prospects in the White House by telling friends that he never really expected to last long in the Chief Strategist position anyway.

From the start, Mr. Bannon, 63, has told people in his orbit that he never expected to last in his current position longer than eight months to a year, and hoped to ram through as much of his agenda as he could while he stood in the president’s favor. More recently he has told friends that he is working in the White House one day at a time, and constantly asks himself whether he could better pursue his to-do list — including cracking down on legal and illegal immigration — on the outside.

So, will Nancy Pelosi, and the mainstream media, finally get their wish?

Silicon Valley Tightens Its Grip On Free Speech

Authored by Edmund Kozak via Lifezette.com,

Alliance between progressives and tech is killing the unfettered exchange of ideas...

Political totalitarianism is coming to America, and it is being ushered in not by government thugs in jackboots but by progressive activists and their allies in Silicon Valley.

In a chilling oped published in The New York Times on July 14, Lisa Feldman Barrett, a professor of psychology at Northeastern University, argued that so-called “hate speech” is the same thing as physical violence because it may possibly cause emotionally fragile individuals stress — and should be made illegal.

Thankfully, the First Amendment prohibits the federal government from following such advice, but online companies are taking it upon themselves to stamp-out so-called “hate speech,” strangling free speech and the free exchange of ideas in the process.

A number of troubling actions by internet companies — Google most prominent among them — are making it increasingly clear that some in Silicon Valley have proclaimed themselves defenders of the progressive, politically correct faith, and that those firms will silence any and all heretics who challenge those beliefs.

"Silicon Valley lives in a politically regressive, exclusive bubble. They are not aware of their own biases in how they talk, have a limited understanding of the philosophy behind free speech, and find it difficult empathizing with other points of view," said Aaron Ginn, co-founder of the Lincoln Network, a think tank that seeks to promote libertarian ideas in the tech industry.

But Google not only has difficulty empathizing with other points of view — it is also actively trying to suppress them. Google recently made the controversial decision to fire engineer James Damore for authoring an internal memo questioning the company"s ideologically motivated diversity practices and highlighting sound scientific research suggesting that possible biological differences between men and women, not discrimination, could be a factor in the tech field"s high percentage of men.

In the aftermath of Damore"s firing, a number of anonymous current and former Google employees have come forward to reveal the full extent of the company"s efforts to silence right-wing voices. One anonymous employee identified as "Hal" told Breitbart News last week that some employees in Google"s ad sales department are "openly encouraging Adwords customers to pull their ads from Breitbart and Rebel Media."

Another anonymous employee under the alias "Emmet" confirmed this with Breitbart News, and also revealed the existence of "efforts to demote anything non-PC, anti-Communist, and anti-Islamic terror from search results."

"Emmett says he personally witnessed efforts from leftists within Google to bias YouTube"s algorithms to push anti-PC content off the platform"s "related videos" recommendations," Breitbart reported. "The software could just "astroturf" your Related Videos section [an effort to hurt overall ratings], and you would be none the wiser," said Emmet.

"Sure, if you know what to look for, perhaps you"d notice," he continued. "But the vast majority of the viewership would never ever know. That"s the whole point of such a disinformation program, right? If you can tell it"s disinformation, you would never, ever believe it."

People familiar with the process have told reporters recently that YouTube, a subsidiary of Google, is also laboring to cleanse its platform of alternative voices that challenge the mainstream liberal narrative. The social media video-sharing site has in the past few months systematically demonetized videos of right-wing commenters and journalists, such as Infowars editor-at-large Paul Joseph Watson and former Rebel Media reporter Lauren Southern.

But the latest commentators to fall victim to this practice are far less controversial: YouTube celebrities and vocal Trump supporters Diamond and Silk. The duo discovered last week that a number of their videos — including one that is two years old — were suddenly demonetized. They have vowed to fight YouTube"s efforts to suppress conservative voices and have even raised the possibility of legal action.

"The same video that is being demonetized has been monetized for two years, so how was it suitable for our advertisers for two years and now all of a sudden there"s an issue?" Silk told LifeZette in an exclusive interview.

The pair say the demonetization is a transparent attempt at censorship. "How can [YouTube] oust us and say [we"re] not suitable for all advertisers?" said Diamond. "Have you spoken to each and every one of you hundreds of thousand of advertisers and said, "Hey do you want to advertise around Diamond or Silk, yes or no?" or are you as YouTube making this decision for your advertisers?"

YouTube is "a social media platform, and a social media platform is a platform for ideas, for all ideas," said Diamond. It"s a place "for people to be able to come together and collaborate with those ideas."

"So even though people want to call YouTube private, it"s open to the public, so when it"s open to the public, you cannot discriminate against conservative voices or against people that chose to support the president," she argued.

"We"re being discriminated against because first of all, we"re two black people, we don"t fit the norm — we"re black, Republican conservatives, and we support our president," said Diamond. "What they want to do is control the narrative."

"They"re putting our videos in a category now as being extremist or "hate speech,"" said Silk.

"And that"s not fair because now that"s defamation," Diamond added.

The duo, which gained even more recognition for their consistent support of Trump during the presidential race, wants YouTube to remonetize not just their videos, but also those of other right-wingers who have had their livelihoods altered in a similar fashion.

"We want to give YouTube the opportunity to make this right, to be inclusive instead of exclusive. We want them to include people and not leave out conservative voices," Diamond said.

But "if YouTube does not make this right, then we have to take this a step further," said Diamond. On Thursday the two tweeted, "We Smell A Class Action Lawsuit," and confirmed with LifeZette that they are prepared to follow through on the threat.

"Listen, they can regulate, but you can"t discriminate while you regulate," she said.

"Because what they"re trying to do is dominate, and that"s unfair," Diamond said. "It"s unfair that we allow Google and YouTube to team up together and really monopolize a sector of the internet."

Unfortunately it"s not just Google. On Thursday, Watson of InfoWars posted a YouTube video titled "I Won"t Be Around Much Longer," in which he revealed that "they banned me on Facebook because of a video I posted 18 months ago," and went on to posit that if digital platforms continue at the current rate, Silicon Valley will have soon entirely purged all right-wing voices from mainstream social media.

But although social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter are already known among conservatives for suppressing even mainstream right-wing voices, despite allowing controversial content from the far Left and even radical Islamists to remain online unmolested — non-social-media sites have also begun to target right-wing dissidents.

A number of online right-wing commentators — including Southern and former Students for Trump director and independent journalist James Allsup — have even had their Paypal, GoFundMe, or Patreon accounts canceled because of their perceived "support" for "hate speech."

These attacks, not just on people"s free speech, but also on their livelihoods, represent a fundamental and chilling acceleration of the progressive Left"s attempts to control thought and debate within society.

"Liberals can"t have this one-sided. This works both ways," said Diamond.

"We have a conservative voice, we support our president, we support our country, and we want our voices heard, and if we have fans we want our fans to hear our voices," she said.

Bannon In Jeopardy: Trump Suspects Key Advisor Is Source Of Leaks

As special counsel Mueller"s probe into Trump"s "Russian collusion" allegations expands to include virtually all financial affairs of the president, Trump"s own "witch hunt" for the source of White House leaks - so far unsuccessful - is likewise growing, and just weeks after Trump removed one of his two original advisors when he sacked Reince Priebus, overnight Axios" Jonathan Swan reports that Trump has told associates that "he believes Steve Bannon is behind damaging leaks about White House colleagues" putting the chief strategist"s job in fresh jeopardy.

On Friday we reported that "first it was Preibus, then Kushner and now General H.R. McMaster: Breitbart has seemingly waged war on many of President Trump"s closest advisors over the past several months but it seems that the only person they"re actually hurting is their former Executive Chair, Steve Bannon.  As Politico notes this morning, whether true or not, every time Breitbart drops a negative article on the White House, all eyes turn to Bannon." And now it"s the president that is paying attention.

As Axios adds late on Saturday, unnamed sources in the West Wing "believe Bannon is an instigator of leaks targeting National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster", even though Bannon has told associates he has nothing to do with the campaign against McMaster, which is "a spontaneous effort by the base."

The stories have been driven by Breitbart, where Bannon was executive chairman before joining Trump"s presidential campaign as chief executive in August. On Thursday, Trump backed McMaster as "our friend." Additionally, sources close to Trump say he was irritated about Bannon"s extensive cooperation with a book by Bloomberg Businessweek"s Josh Green, "Devil"s Bargain," with a cover that gave Bannon equal billing with Trump. The rise in tensions between the president and his top ideological advisor follows a New York Post interview in April when Trump refused to back Bannon, and declared himself "my own strategist." After that, Bannon lowered his profile, then temporarily redeemed himself as he helped organize the White House response to Robert Mueller.

Fast forward to today when Trump has reportedly told associates "he"s fed up with what he sees as self-promotion by Bannon, who did not join the core team this week at the president"s golf club in Bedminster, N.J." The recent arrival of Trump"s new chief of staff, Gen. John Kelly has only added to the alienation:

Bannon"s time with Trump has diminished since the new chief of staff, retired Marine Gen. John Kelly, took over and imposed discipline on the circus around the Oval Office.

But while Trump has been frustrated with Bannon - who survived Jared Kushner"s attempt to oust him early on in Trump"s administration - in the past, he has never had as easy vehicle for getting rid of him. Now, with Kelly in the picture, that dynamic has changed. As one top aide told Axios, "Kelly can do the dirty work."

According to Axios, Kelly "was initially mystified, and then horrified, when he learned about the relentless campaign against McMaster, coming from Breitbart and others."

Furthermore, while Trump reportedly doesn"t believe that Bannon is some kind of puppeteer in charge of conservative media. "That would be overstating Steve"s influence," the source said, he wondered why Bannon hasn"t raised a finger to stop the hit pieces against McMaster that have run on Breitbart, a publication he used to run.

The source pointed out that when the media began reporting, early in the  administration, that Bannon was warring with Reince, the two went to extraordinary lengths to prove their friendship, and Bannon went to extraordinary lengths to shut down the narrative.

in his defense, Bannon - who is philosophically aligned with the President on numerous domestic policy issues - has been on the winning side of a number of internal policy battles, including Trump"s withdrawal from the Paris climate accord and the new aggressive turn against China on trade. On Monday, Trump returns to D.C. to announce he"s signing a memo to investigate China for intellectual property theft and other trade abuses against the U.S. Bannon has been pushing hard behind that policy. At the same time, "Bannon has a genuine, deeply-felt policy disagreement with McMaster. Bannon"s and McMaster"s world views are diametrically opposed, and Bannon believes the globalists pose the greatest internal threat to the Trump presidency, and could send it veering off course with foreign interventions."

That said Bannon"s departure is not guaranteed, with the biggest wildcard being how two Republican mega-donors, Bob and Rebekah Mercer, would react if Kelly were to fire Bannon on Trump"s behalf. "Given the financial support they"ve given to Bannon and Breitbart, would they turn against Trump, whom they"ve also supported?" Another question is how Trump"s base would react to Bannon"s firing.

The last question is what kind of havoc Bannon could - and would - wreak on the outside, relieved of his West Wing responsibilities? We may soon find out.

Guerrilla Street Art Appears In Support Of Fired Google Engineer James Damore

Content originally published at iBankCoin.com

In response to Google firing engineer James Damore (who just got on Twitter as @Fired4Truth) for his politically incorrect #GoogleMemo, a series of guerrilla street art installations have cropped up in Venice and Santa Monica, CA in protest of the Silicon Valley search bohemoth.

Conservative pundit and founder of the Proud Boys “pro-Western fraternal organization” says the individual responsible for the street art is a member of his organization.

March on Google

In response to being fired, James Damore conservatives Jack Posobiec and Mike Cernovich have organized “March on Google” set for Saturday, August 19th anywhere google has offices.

“We are going to raise awareness about Google’s one-sided bias and campaign against dissenting opinions and voices,” Posobiec said, adding “Google’s firing of James Damore is the flashpoint here. An engineer fired for simply expressing an opinion that ran counter to Google’s politically-charged atmosphere of an “Ideological Echo Chamber” (Also the title of Damore’s memo).

Hundreds of people have reportedly signed up for the marches since Wednesday’s announcement.

Support for Damore

In addition to a huge swell of internal agreement with the controversial memo among Google employees, there has been an outpouring of conservatives offering everything from kind words to jobs in support of Damore from the likes of Wikileaks and Twitter alternative Gab.ai.

Gab CEO Andrew Torba elaborated on his job offer in an interview with Breitbart Tech.

“Gab supports the free and open expression of all ideas. What this document and the reaction to it prove is that Silicon Valley exists in a bubble world where Wrong Think is not permitted,” Torba claimed. “They preach tolerance and yet are intolerant of any conservatives ideas. They praise diversity and yet shun conservatives out of their workplace. They applaud the bravery of folks who speak out when it aligns with their own far-left agenda, but scorn a conservative who dares to stand up for what they believe in.” via Breitbart

Shockingly, the NYT and Chicago Tribune have both published articles coming out against Damore"s firing - with the NYT op-ed suggesting Google CEO Sunday Pichai resign!

Conservatism is truly the new counterculture…

"I Have A Right To Express My Concerns": Fired Google Engineer Will Pursue Legal Action; Assange Offers Job

The computer engineer fired by Google for writing a memo in which he slammed the company"s anti-conservative culture and said women are less suited to certain roles in tech and leadership, is considering taking legal action against the company.

As a reminder, now former Google employee James Damore, caused outrage when he circulated a manifesto on Friday, complaining about Google’s “ideological echo chamber” alleging women have lower tolerance for stress and that conservatives are more conscientious. The chess master, who studied at Harvard, Princeton and MIT and worked at Google"s Mountain View HQ, was fired on Monday after the search giant’s chief executive, Sundar Pichai, said portions of Damore’s 10-page memo “violate our code of conduct and cross the line by advancing harmful gender stereotypes” despite saying in the same memo that Google employees shouldn"t be afraid of speaking their minds.

One day after Google announced the engineer was fired, Damore said he would “likely be pursuing legal action”.

“I have a right to express my concerns about the terms and conditions of my working environment and to bring up potentially illegal behavior, which is what my document does,” he said in an email reported by the New York Times.

In a further email to Breitbart, he reportedly said: “They just fired me for ‘perpetuating gender stereotypes’.”

While liberals were delighted by the decision, others accused Google of hypocrisy as the company is itself currently involved in litigation with the U.S. Department of Labor alleging the company systemically discriminates against women. Google has denied the charges, arguing that it doesn’t have a gender gap in pay, but has declined to share full salary information with the government. According to the company’s most recent demographic report, 69 percent of its workforce and 80 percent of its technical staff are male.

Among other things, Damore argued that “Google’s left bias has created a politically correct mono-culture that maintains its hold by shaming dissenters into silence”. He said: “The distribution of preferences and abilities of men and women differ in part due to biological causes, and that these differences may explain why we don’t see equal representation of women in tech and leadership.”

In his memo, subtitled “How bias clouds our thinking about diversity and inclusion”, he said he wanted to increase women’s representation in tech without resorting to discrimination.

He complained that “discriminating just to increase the representation of women in tech is as misguided and biased as mandating increases for women’s representation in the homeless, work-related and violent deaths, prisons and school dropouts”. His suggestions included the company making tech and leadership less stressful because “women are on average more prone to anxiety”. His dismissal followed "outrage" in Silicon Valley because Damore sought to explain the gender imbalance in the tech industry as a function of biological difference.

The senior software engineer had worked at Google since 2013 and had previously studied computational biology at Princeton, Harvard and the University of Illinois where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in 2010 in the top 3% of his class, according to his CV posted online and noted by the Guardian.

On Tuesday, Julian Assange, the founder of Wikileaks, said that he would like to hire Damore, declaring “censorship is for losers”.

Writing on Twitter he said: “WikiLeaks is offering a job to fired Google engineer James Damore. Women and men deserve respect. That includes not firing them for politely expressing ideas but rather arguing back.” He added: “I value intellectual diversity and workers rights to not be fired for politely expressing the ‘wrong’ opinion.”

Damore"s termination also sparked a conservative backlash, with Breitbart and other websites rushing to Damore’s defence. Breitbart quoted an anonymous employee who claimed that “the diversity gospel has been woven into nearly everything the company does, to the point where senior leaders focus on diversity first and technology second.

“For conservative employees, this is obviously demoralising, but it is also dangerous. Several have been driven out of the company or fired outright for sharing a dissenting view.”

Eric Weinstein, managing director of Peter Thiel’s venture capital firm, wrote an open missive to Google asking it to “stop teaching my girl that her path to financial freedom lies not in coding but in complaining to HR”.

More to the matter at hand, legal observers have questioned whether Google has broken employment law by firing Damore.

Dan Eaton, an employment lawyer, in San Diego wrote on CNBC: “Federal labour law bars even non-union employers like Google from punishing an employee for communicating with fellow employees about improving working conditions … California law prohibits employers from threatening to fire employees to get them to adopt or refrain from adopting a particular political course of action.”

He also said” “It is unlawful for an employer to discipline an employee for challenging conduct that the employee reasonably believed to be discriminatory, even when a court later determines the conduct was not actually prohibited by the discrimination laws.”

A spokesman for Google in London declined to comment to the press on the legality of the decision.

Our guess: the most likely outcome will be a multi-million dollar settlement, and in a few months the name James Damore will be forgotten.

Finally, for those who still haven"t read it, Damore"s full memo is below (link):

Mooch The Merciless 'Terminates' First Suspected White House Leaker

Just days after newly appointed White House Communications Director Anthony "Mooch" Scaramucci took up his position, he is laying down the law, telling Politico Monday that there would be changes in his communications shop - but he was still evaluating the landscape.

"Senior people have gone to the comms people and said, leak this or leak that on this person or that person."

"The comms department reports to me. I report to the president. It has to stop, and I"ve told them that. If it doesn"t stop, I"ll fire all of you."

And today, it appears the first actions have taken place.

The financier and longtime Trump surrogate confirmed to Politico early Tuesday that he planned to start by dismissing assistant press secretary Michael Short at a morning meeting.

Multiple White House sources tell Breitbart News that Short was a leaker, and worked closely with now former White House deputy chief of staff Katie Walsh - another RNC wing official who was terminated earlier this year for her own suspected leaking.

Short, who initially said Tuesday that he hadn’t yet been informed of any decision, resigned Tuesday afternoon...

As Politico"s Tara Palmeri reports, Short’s ouster is Scaramucci’s first warning shot to White House aides who have been perceived as disloyal to the president. In an echo of Trump’s not-so-subtle warning to Jeff Sessions about his status as attorney general, Scaramucci’s vow to “fire everybody” is a warning to staffers perceived as leakers.

“I’m going to fire everybody, that’s how I’m going to do it,” Scaramucci said to reporters outside of the White House on Tuesday. “You’re either going to stop leaking or you’re going to be fired.”

Scaramucci claimed to have the full authority of the president to clean out the communications shop and put his own stamp on the team.

Short originally worked for the Trump campaign - placed on it by Priebus - and quit the campaign, sources tell Breitbart News, after the Access Hollywood tape came out. Politico confirmed this report...

“He was scorned by many of his colleagues for quitting the Trump campaign, only to rejoin as a White House staffer because of Priebus,” Palmeri wrote of Short.

“In a story often retold by campaign staffers, they arrived at Trump Tower one morning, months before the election, to see Short’s computer left open on his otherwise empty desk. He had quit the campaign that day and never returned.

The next time he was seen by former campaign staffers was in January on their first day in the White House, where some were stunned to learn that they were going to have to work alongside him or for some of the press assistants subordinate to him.”

Short denied to Breitbart News that he is a leaker. “I have never leaked,” he said in an email. According to Palmeri, too, Short has now denied that he quit the campaign - he just says he went to work back at the RNC. Short is expected to be the first in a wave of staffers closely aligned with Priebus to be shown the door.

Nevertheless, Mooch The Merciless has started draining the swamp...
