Frankly, in my view, the sporting world should be a politics free zone, and the fact that I am compelled to write about politics in sports in America today is bewildering beyond belief. That said, to be clear, I am not a fan of the NFL. I think the sport, like most professional sports, is overrun with whiny, juiced-up morons paid millions of dollars for providing nothing to the public except sub-par entertainment and little-to-no loyalty to the state or city in which they happen to be employed. NFL players are not legitimate role models for society anymore that costumed television wrestlers are role models for society.
Add to this the rampant politicization of the NFL over the past several years with social justice undertones and overtones, and I can’t think of a single redeeming quality to the arena. The best thing that could possibly happen to U.S. athletics would be if the entire system was scrapped and rebuilt from the ashes with truly local teams composed of local players driven purely by the desire for athletic excellence and healthy competition.
To me, it seems the appeal of sports, at least for spectators, is the possibility that anything could happen according to the merit of the players and the teams. In a society in which so much is restricted and controlled and dictated by political correctness and appeals to artificial “fairness,” the idea that, at least on a football field, baseball diamond or hockey rink, all of that garbage goes out the window for a few hours is enticing to say the least. Spontaneous moments of greatness are what people want to see, not blithe displays of ideological ignorance.
There is no social justice in real sports. There is no affirmative action. There are no safe spaces. The best men or women rise to the top and the losers go home with nothing. That is the way it should be. Champions soar to the heights as easily as they fall to the depths, and underdogs can shock the world through sheer determination. You cannot lie or steal your way to athletic superiority. You cannot use victim-group status to win trophies and medals. You have to work hard. You have to earn it. If you are a fraud you will be found out eventually. This is a philosophy which has been lost in modern athletics. Leftists in our culture are also oblivious to the notion.
When I see one of the last fields of American heritage and meritocracy being destroyed by cultural Marxism, I do feel what I’m sure many people feel — enraged. However, the situation is more complex than surface conflicts suggest.
NFL players refusing to stand for the national anthem is not really the issue here. Donald Trump admonishing them for their actions is also not the issue here. It is the motivations behind both sides that concerns me.
For activist NFL players and owners the motivation is rather clear; social justice cultism has seeped into their profession and some of them have decided to use the platform they have been given to pontificate rather than play the game they are paid to play. Protests attacking non-existent racism and “patriarchy” against a system that has made these men multi-millionaire celebrities regardless of their skin color would be relegated to the idiocy of college campuses if any of these people had any sense of judgment.
For Donald Trump, the motivation is far more foggy. I would prefer if the president of the United States spent his energies on fulfilling his campaign promise of “draining the swamp” of banking elites and neo-con warmongers instead of loading his cabinet with them and spouting off on Twitter about forcing a few football players to stand for a national anthem that praises the freedom of rebellion.
My readers are well aware that I view Trump as a pied piper, leading conservatives down a path back to neo-con totalitarianism rather than towards libertarian virtues of individual sovereignty. In other words, I am not seeing much difference between Trump and Obama so far. Perhaps in rhetoric, but certainly not in action.
The circus surrounding Trump’s latest feud with the NFL is just another distraction away from the fact that this administration is following a very similar policy path to every other corrupt administration before it. And conservatives are so tired of the trespasses of the social justice cult, many of them are eating up every minute of the farce. Though, this is not what a bunch of football players are concerned about.
Let’s summarize the actual problem…
If NFL players refused to stand for the national anthem because they believed in the ideals it represents but felt that our government no longer represented those ideals, then I would be in full support of their motives. Obviously, this is not why they are protesting. If their motivation was about speaking against corrupt government, then they would have refused to stand for the anthem back when Barack Obama, a Constitution-wrecking cabana boy for the elites, was in office.
If Trump’s attacks on the NFL were motivated by a love of liberty as the anthem inspires, then he would not demand that players be forced to stand, which is indeed a violation of their First Amendment rights. Instead, he would have dropped that concept completely and stuck with the rational side of his position, which was for spectators to vote with their wallets and stop supporting the league with their dollars.
The bottom line is, whether or not you or I support their motives, constitutionally, legal precedence is on the side of the players. They have every right to act like bitches on an SJW plantation, kneeling and virtue signaling to their heart’s content. And, the public has every right to stop watching the NFL, drop their ESPN subscriptions, throw their overpriced sports jerseys in the trash and move on to more important issues… like what the hell is all this nonsense with North Korea? And why do we keep hearing about economic recovery when the average American can’t make it from month-to-month without running up their credit cards? And why are so many of us so damn fat and unhealthy?
Hell, here’s an idea — how about more people stop watching sports and start playing sports instead? Why not simply let the NFL die out along with every other venture poisoned by social justice?
The point is, the NFL battle with Trump is irrelevant compared to the greater battle of ideals behind it. It is not for Trump to fight this battle; it is for the spectators and consumers to fight this battle. The solution is not Trump’s Twitter account or his interference. The solution is for Americans to walk away and take their money with them.
The solution is also not to attempt legislation or government force to strike fear into those who might disagree with us. I have seen far too many so-called “liberty minded” people repeat the fanatically stupid mantra of “stomp my flag and I’ll stomp your ass!” The great sacrifice of living in a free country is that you have to support the individual rights of EVERYONE, even people who don’t believe in individual rights.
Some might argue that this is not a path that is being pursued so we should not be concerned. I say the social undercurrent today is ripe for zealotry on both sides, and conservatives need to take the high road even if it means things will be more difficult for us in the short term.
Finally, to the players that have so far jumped on the Colin Kaepernick bandwagon; understand that you have delusions of grandeur. You are NOT Jesse Owens proving your worth in the face of Hitler’s Aryan dystopia. You are not important or effective activists in the grand scheme of things because your political and philosophical views are ill informed and generally incompetent. In fact, your views work in FAVOR of the corrupt system, not against it.
While you do have the right to sit during the national anthem, knowing why you are sitting is more important than the action itself. If you are sitting because you have bought into a cultural Marxist con game that is using you as fodder for political division, then perhaps you should rethink your little protest and try working towards concrete solutions.
If you are going to use race and social inequality as a crux for your theatrical displays of “defiance” as you are cashing checks for millions in sponsorship deals paid for primarily by white people, then I think you will find most of America laughing at you in the end. Show us your true resolve and refuse that dirty imperialist money. Otherwise, you are just another over-privileged punk pretending to be under-privileged in order to gain notoriety at the expense of reason.

Does the NFL actually think that it can go to war with the national anthem and the American flag and win? Many are trying to frame this controversy as a “protest against Trump”, but the truth is that owners, coaches and players can speak out against President Trump any time that they want. They have huge platforms and the mainstream media would soak up every word. So there is absolutely no need to “take a knee” when our national anthem is being played and the American flag is being honored. As I explained a couple days ago, the national anthem and the American flag are symbols that represent the entire country. And the outrage that has been unleashed as a result of this controversy is off the charts. If you go on to YouTube, you will find dozens of videos of fans burning their NFL jerseys. There is even a new hashtag (#NFLburnnotice) that has gone viral over the past couple of days because so many people are doing this, and many mainstream news outlets are publishing reports on this phenomenon…
Outraged fans around the country are taking a stand as protests during the national anthem spread across NFL games.
Hundreds of players have taken the knee, locked arms or just stayed in the locker room to call attention to racial inequality in the nation. That’s offended many football fans, who see the act as unpatriotic. Some threatened to burn their team merchandise if protests continued, and now some are making good on that promise.
Yes, owners, coaches and players may have a First Amendment right to do what they did, but we also have a right to let them know what we think about what they just did.
As the weeks and months roll along, millions of former fans are going to be turning the games off and finding other ways to spend their Sunday afternoons. And once these fans are gone, do you think that they will come back?
One Pittsburgh fan was so outraged that he burned “more than $1,000 worth of Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise”…
Robert Smith posted a video of himself on Sunday burning more than $1,000 worth of Pittsburgh Steelers merchandise, the Daily Mail reported. Earlier that day, the Steelers had not participated in the anthem, with the exception of offensive tackle Alejandro Villanueva, who served three tours of duty as an Army Ranger in Afghanistan before beginning his NFL career.
“We have morals in this country. We stand for this country,” Smithsays in the video, which has more than 50,000 views as of Monday afternoon. “My great-uncle’s bones are lying in the bottom of Pearl Harbor for this country, for this flag, for your freedom to play in the NFL.”
“Super Bowl, right? As if I care,” Smith continues, pouring lighter fluid on the gear. “I care about our country. I care about our freedom.”
And of course now it is inevitable that “taking a knee” will start spreading to other venues as well.
Sadly, a member of Congress has even decided to do this on the floor of the House of Representatives. According to Texas Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, she did this in order to “stand against racism”…
“There is no regulation that says that these young men cannot stand against the dishonoring of their mothers by you calling them ‘fire the son of a b.’ You tell me which of those children’s mothers is a son of a b. That is racism. You cannot deny it. You cannot run for it, and I kneel in honor of them,” Jackson Lee said.
“I kneel in front of the flag and on this floor,” she said as she took a knee behind the podium.
“I kneel in honor of the First Amendment. I kneel because the flag is a symbol for freedom. I kneel because I’m going to stand against racism. I kneel because I will stand with those young men, and I’ll stand with our soldiers. And I’ll stand with America, because I kneel.”
I have been fighting against racism for many years too, but this is not the way to do it.
It is never appropriate to disrespect our flag or our anthem, and this is a point that White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders made on Monday…
“This isn’t about the president being against anyone. This is about the president and millions of Americans standing for something,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders said Monday. “Honoring the flag, the national anthem, and the men and women who fought to defend it.”
She added: “It is always appropriate for the president of this country to promote our flag, to promote our national anthem and ask people to respect it.”
It will be very interesting to see what the public opinion polls say in the coming days, but up to this point it has been exceedingly clear that most Americans do not support these kinds of “protests”…
In 2016, a Quinnipac poll found that only 38 percent of those supported NFL players kneeling during the National Anthem. A Reuters poll found that 72 percent found the protest to be unpatriotic but also that 64 percent agreed there should be no punishment or fine.
When you disrespect the anthem or the flag, you are disrespecting all of us and everything that this country is supposed to stand for.
If you want to make a political point, find some other way to do it. Treating our national symbols with contempt is never appropriate, and those that have done so should be utterly ashamed of themselves.

A new report from The Armstrong and Getty Radio Show has sent shockwaves throughout the sports world after it was claimed that members of the NFL’s Oakland Raiders may have purposefully allowed their star quarterback to get sacked multiple times after he refused to kneel during the National Anthem.
If true, this would essentially mean that an NFL football game was illegally thrown over anger that one of the teams star white players did not believe that kneeling during the nations anthem was the correct way to protest supposed racial injustice in America.
In other words, an epic level scandal.
During the anthem, virtually the entire team was seen kneeling other than the teams coaches and star quarterback Derek Carr. Unfortunately, this may have not set well with the teams offensive line as they were apparently the players who spearheaded the entire idea to kneel as a team in the first.
“This is one hell of a scandal with the NFL, could ruin the whole league,” claimed the show before detailing the fact that Carr was sacked two times in a row on the teams second drive and that the teams usually dependable center snapped the ball at the wrong time in three different instances. Extremely capable receivers also made multiple “weird” drops of passes thrown by Carr that T.V. announcers even noted at the time.
The radio show then revealed bombshell “insider information” from an “extremely reliable” source who claimed that members of the Oakland Raiders did indeed throw the game as a sort of punishment for Carr choosing to not use the countries anthem to make a political statement.
“He wants to stand alone, he can stand alone on the field,” one of the teams offensive lineman said, according to the shows source. Keep in mind, the offensive line are literally the guys whose job it is to protect the quarterback, in this case the star player who didn’t kneel.
Amazingly, the circumstantial (and possible direct) proof didn’t end there as the show then claimed that this same source also revealed that a local team reporter got wind of the story and asked a team official for comment. What he was apparently told in response has all the hallmarks of a team trying to cover up a major scandal.
“If you report on this, you will be blackballed, you will not get access to the Raiders period,” the reporter was supposedly told. “Your career covering the team will be over”.
While there are obviously major legal and ethical issues if this is true, it also paints a sad picture of a football league divided by a political and media establishment all too happy to cause as much racial divide in the country as possible. For as long as Americans focus on differences between each other, the global elites power remains completely unthreatened.

It’s not okay to speak out on real issues that the government wants to keep a secret (e.g. 9/11 truth, government false flags and exposing fake events like Sandy Hook) but it is okay to speak out on issues that the mainstream media endorses like the current planned American Color Revolution based on identity politics. This is an agenda which is all part of the Communist/Globalist planned destruction of America designed to usher in their new global order which will ignore the relevance of the nation state.
Young professional athletes, like Hollywood celebrities find themselves on the receiving end of a lot of deep state propaganda and it’s only a matter of time before some of these young athletes are influenced and compelled to action by this ongoing propaganda. This is what we are now seeing.
For several years we’ve seen and heard of the continued politicizing of the National Football League (NFL) and many have been wondering, but what about the other professional sports leagues in America like Major League Baseball? Will they ever go the way of the NFL and start making political statements to ruin their sports too? Wonder no more because Oakland A’s rookie catcher Bruce Maxwell just became the first player in the league to get involved in the protesting of the national anthem shenanigans by taking a knee during the playing of the National Anthem at Sunday’s A’s-Rangers game. Susan Slusser at sfgate.com writes:
A’s rookie catcher Bruce Maxwell, who earlier in the day profanely bashed President Trump on Instagram, became the first major-league player to kneel during the national anthem on Saturday before Oakland’s 1-0 win at the Coliseum.
“My decision had been coming for a long time,” Maxwell said, citing his own experiences with racism while growing up in Huntsville, Ala., which is where Trump on Friday made disparaging comments about NFL players who choose to kneel for the anthem. “The only way we can come together is by informing. … To single out NFL players for doing this isn’t something we should be doing – I felt it should be a little more broad.”
Maxwell plans to continue kneeling for the anthem.
Maxwell explains his protest in very vague terms (IMO) not clearly defining his purpose aside from the obvious solidarity with former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick who remains unsigned by any NFL team. The Kaepernick issue is yet another perplexing issue since teams are allowed to freely decide what players they want to pursue. The social justice warriors apparently don’t understand the free market.
“The point of my kneeling was not to disrespect our military or our constitution or our country,” Maxwell said. “My hand was over my heart because I love this country and I have family members, including my father, who bled for this country, and who continue to serve. At the end of the day, this is the best country on the planet. I am and forever will be an American citizen and grateful to be here, but my kneeling is what’s getting the attention, and I’m kneeling for the people who don’t have a voice.
“This goes beyond the black and Hispanic communities because right now we have a racial divide that’s being practiced from the highest power we have in this country saying it’s basically OK to treat people differently. I’m kneeling for a cause but I’m in no way disrespecting my country or my flag.”
Maxwell however, showed the world a couple of days ago that this is as much about his dislike and resistance for president Trump as much as anything else.
Saturday morning, Maxwell, who is African American, posted a tweet from Andrew Steinthal that suggested that all NFL players should kneel for the anthem Sunday. Below the post, Maxwell added in a comment, “Yeah, f- this guy! Our president speaks of inequality of man because players are protesting the anthem! F- this man! Seriously on the highest platform for our country expressing that it is OK for there to be division of man and rights!”
When you remove the words and the rhetoric what none of these players involved in these national anthem protests realize is that all of this is part of the planned Communist globalist agenda for undermining and dividing America with identify politics and what many Communist leaders call ‘National Liberation’. For decades Communist leaders have focused their strategy on inspiring individuals to stand up against the state, to recognize how they are being oppressed by the state and learn to fight back. Without this sense of victimhood of course the entire Communist agenda and subsequently today’s globalization movement would fall apart. You would think intelligent, well read and critical thinking Americans would be too smart to fall for this agenda right? Not at all. Young athletes as well as Hollywood celebrities and a lot of Americans indoctrinated in America’s colleges and universities are all caught up in the planned national liberation, identity politics based propaganda which now threatens America itself. And this is the much bigger story here. And the reason this anti-America, anti-Trump revolution continues to gain steam is because people like Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and George Soros are funding this revolution and the mainstream media and social media are pushing this also.
As we saw with the NFL where Commissioner Roger Goodell recently defended the politicization of the NFL and lashed back at president Trump, both the Oakland A’s and Major League Baseball are using the “free speech” argument to allow their players to make political statements.
The A’s issued a statement on Twitter that read: “The Oakland A’s pride ourselves on being inclusive. We respect and support all our players’ constitutional rights and freedom of expression.”
Major League Baseball issued a statement after Maxwell’s decision not to stand that read in part: “Major League Baseball has a longstanding tradition of honoring our nation prior to the start of our games. We also respect that each of our players is an individual with his own background, perspectives and opinions.”
The much bigger story here is that this is just the beginning of the end of America if the globalist have their way. Americans are now having to choose whose side they are on as I have been saying all year. The deep state which is undermining president Trump will continue its attack on America and now they are spreading their “revolution” everywhere you turn. Whether it’s late night shows, concerts, TV shows, mainstream media news, Hollywood movies, celebrities, colleges, universities, multi-national corporations and now professional sports. The revolution against America and for the birth of the new world order is all around us. Try to recognize it and think carefully about how you will approach this now unavoidable fight for America.

This is going to backfire on the left in a major way. On Sunday, more than a hundred NFL players knelt during the playing of the national anthem. It was obviously an attempt to make some sort of public statement about President Trump, but it was an exceedingly poor way to go about doing that. Because our young people are not even taught about the importance of our national anthem and our national flag in school, most of these players didn’t even understand what they were doing. Our anthem is sung and our flag is proudly displayed prior to major sporting events for a reason. The truth is that our national anthem and our national flag are both symbols that directly represent our nation. In other words, when you show disrespect to the anthem or to the flag you are literally showing disrespect to the United States of America. So what these players did on Sunday was essentially to spit in the face of every single American citizen.
This is not just an American thing. All over the world it is well understood that respect for the national flag and other national symbols is not optional. What transpired at NFL games on Sunday will be broadcast all over the planet, and the rest of the world will be laughing at our national disgrace.
The very first NFL game scheduled on Sunday was held in London, and “dozens of players from both teams” knelt while the national anthem was being played…
The first game of the day between the Baltimore Ravens and Jacksonville Jaguars saw dozens of players from both teams kneel while almost the entire Jaguars’ on-field and sideline players and employees locked arms during the U.S. national anthem, including owner Shahid Khan. Some players stood while others knelt.
And of course similar “sideline protests” happened at other NFL stadiums all over the nation. Never before in American history have we ever seen anything quite like this…
Demonstrations spread throughout the league as many players broke out of their routine by joining the protests or engaging in team-wide displays of unity.
Several players from the Buffalo Bills, Denver Broncos, New York Giants, Detroit Lions, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints and Atlanta Falcons were among those who chose not to stand for the anthem. The Miami Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Minnesota Vikings, Philadelphia Eagles, Chicago Bears, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets, Los Angeles Chargers and Green Bay Packers stood with arms locked, though some players from those teams chose to kneel.
I honestly don’t think that the NFL will ever be the same after this. It had already been transformed into the “no fun league”, and now the focus will squarely be on political protests rather than football for the foreseeable future.
Needless to say, millions upon millions of Americans were completely disgusted by the disrespect shown to our national symbols on Sunday, and President Trump was one of them…
“If a player wants the privilege of making millions of dollars in the NFL, or other leagues, he or she should not be allowed to disrespect …,” Trump said in tweets Saturday afternoon. “Our Great American Flag (or Country) and should stand for the National Anthem. If not, YOU’RE FIRED. Find something else to do!”
If professional football players want to speak out against President Trump, I have no problem with that whatsoever.
But for them to openly and brazenly disrespect our entire country is crossing a line that should never be crossed.
What in the world has happened to America? All over America high school football coaches are being banned from saying prayers before games, and yet disrespecting our anthem and our flag is somehow acceptable? The following comes from Zero Hedge…
Marc Short, the president’s legislative director, has also backed his boss, telling “Meet the Press” that a double standard for players who chose to voice their views on the field, and that the president was speaking for the majority of Americans on what sort of expression was appropriate. Short compared a crackdown on protests to the ban on high school football coaches leading players in prayer before games.
“There are high school coaches across America today who are punished for leading their players in prayer, and yet, when an N.F.L. player takes a knee, somehow that player is presumed to be a martyr for a social cause,” Mr. Short said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “The president is standing with the vast majority of Americans who believe that our flag should be respected.”
Many of these players are going to look back on what they have done with great shame. They may have believed that they were disrespecting President Trump, but the truth is that they were disrespecting this great land and every single American that has ever lived. They owe all of us an apology, and that should happen as soon as possible.
And the NFL may think that it is all powerful, but stunts like this are going to cost it millions upon millions of dollars. Already, ratings were way down because of the few players that were kneeling whenever the anthem was played…

A former Democrat Congresswoman has called for every NFL player to kneel during the national anthem at Sunday’s games, while branding President Donald Trump a ‘white supremacist’.
Donna Edwards, who retired as a US representative for Maryland earlier this year, issued the bold statement on Saturday, responding to Trump’s criticism of NFL players who refuse to stand for the anthem.
‘On Sunday, I hope every @NFL player takes a knee in solidarity w [Colin Kaepernick] against the white supremacist who squats in our White House,’ Edwards said in reference to the former San Francisco quarterback, who is now a free agent.
No matter what your political perspective is, it is wrong to disrespect our national anthem and it is wrong to disrespect our flag.
And anyone that disrespects our anthem and our flag is spitting in the face of the entire country.
What happened on Sunday was a national disgrace, and those involved need to apologize to the American people immediately.

The latest “Divide and Conquer” trend in the United States is centered around the debate over which side is more patriotic—but a new study suggests that while many Americans claim to love the United States, only 25 percent of Americans could list the three branches of the government they so adamantly support.
According to the results from the annual Annenberg Constitution Day Civics Survey, only a quarter of Americans, or around 26 percent, can name all three branches of government, and more than one-third of Americans surveyed, or 37 percent, cannot name any of the rights guaranteed under the First Amendment.
Knowledge of the three branches of government—legislative, judicial and executive—is something many grade-school children are quizzed on, but the idea that adults in the U.S. aren’t aware of who makes up the government they are paying to create rules for them is unsettling. Even when money is being taken out of each of their paychecks, they still are not paying attention to who is spending it, and how its destination impacts the future of the nation.

Then there is the result from the survey that claims more than one-third of Americans cannot name the rights guaranteed to them under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution. Those rights—which include freedoms of speech, religion, the press and peaceful protest of the government—are now at the center of the great NFL debate.
When President Trump took to Twitter to call for NFL team owners to fire any players who took a knee during the National Anthem, he was violating the First Amendment. While a player’s decision to kneel may lead to him being fired based on the fact that his team is losing sponsors who do not support his actions, and the team’s owner now sees the player as a deterrent, his decision is acceptable because it is happening in the private sector.

The National Football League is a private organization. Donald Trump is a government official. Ultimately, football players are hired based on their ability to bring in revenue for their team. If a player’s actions are impacting how much revenue his team is generating, then his contract will end as a result, and it is simply business. But when a government official interferes and demands his firing, in this case, it crossed a line between government and its citizens that is guaranteed by the First Amendment.

Whether Americans are aware of what the branches of government are, or what rights they have under the Constitution, they are still American citizens by birth. However, the survey found that more than half of Americans are also uninformed about the rights of noncitizens. According to the results, 53 percent of respondents “incorrectly think it is accurate to say that immigrants who are here illegally do not have any rights under the U.S. Constitution.”
The annual Annenberg Constitution Day Civics Survey is conducted by the Annenberg Public Policy Center of the University of Pennsylvania. It obtained results from 1,013 adults in the United States from Aug. 9-13.
As The Free Thought Project has reported, it was not until 2009 when the Department of Defense began “paying for patriotism” that NFL teams were present on the field during the National Anthem. Judging an individual’s love for his country by his demeanor during a song before a football game also begs the question: What’s Worse, a Kneeling Millionaire or 300,000 Vets Neglected to Death?
At the end of the day, true change is not going to come from the amount of controversy that is generated over a football player kneeling before a game. It will come when Americans stop getting distracted by “Divide and Conquer” propaganda, when they start becoming educated on how their government is spending the money it steals from their paychecks, and when they truly take ownership of their rights.
(INTELLIHUB) An NFL fan by the name of Brendan Finn burned a pair of tickets to next weeks to next weeks New York Giants vs. Los Angeles Chargers game in protest of players recent disrespect for their country’s flag.
The game is set to take place at East Rutherford’s MetLife Stadium on Oct. 8 and will likely be the setting of major media controversy as others join Finn on his quest.
“I’ve been a Giants ticketholder for many, many, years — been going since the 80’s — I can’t go anymore,” Finn said. “I have all the respect for the NFL players who still respect the flag in our country but I just can’t pay and I can’t watch this happen.
Before Finn lit the tickets ablaze with an outdoor butane lighter he took a moment to explain why he was wearing a shirt in the video in remembrance of a friend of his, a police officer, 69 Precinct, who was shot and killed while on-duty.
“There are thousands of cops just like him who gave their lives for this country and these people want to sit down and protest against cops, I’m burning my tickets,” he said.
“It’s a sad day,” he explained as he watched them burn. “The end of an era. I’m sad to see it happen but I’m sad to see what happened to America even more.”

Randolf, NJ — Parents of high school teenagers were outraged this weekend after dozens of their children were ordered to undergo forced blood and alcohol tests because officials found a beer can under the stadium during a football game. As parents tried to refuse the tests, they were told their children would be suspended for noncompliance.
Naturally, school officials are claiming that the forced blood and urine samples, taken under the threat of suspension, were done in the name of child safety.
According to a letter from Randolph Superintendent Jennifer Fano, the school is charged with enforcing the policy of mass drug tests for suspicion of drug or alcohol use among students.
The law requires that we send students out to be tested when it appears that they may be under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Given the events in question, the students in this area of the stadium were brought in to the school, separated into classrooms, and parents were contacted to pick their child up and have them screened. District policy and regulation states that failure to comply with a screening is deemed a positive test result and will result in a suspension from school.
After the can of beer was found, roughly 75 students were taken from the game and detained in classrooms where their parents were called and told they must comply with the tests. Noncompliance meant that the student would be automatically assumed guilty and face the consequences of a crime that they may or may not have actually committed.

According to a public Facebook post by Randolph High School student and Class of 2018 President Nate Pangaro, “Before the game could begin, an administrator went to the front and told everyone to be quiet. He announced that he found an opened beer can on the ground that rolled to him, and that someone should confess to (whose) it was before everyone was taken in for a breathalyzer test. No one confessed, so people went into the school each row at a time to be tested.”

Some parents were outraged by the incident, according to DailyRecord.com.
“Everybody was just so confused, miscommunication,” said parent Stephanie Pangaro. “As a parent, you’re going to defend your child to the fullest when you know they’re innocent.”
The sheer number of students having to go out and get blood and urine tests overwhelmed the medical systems in town.
“Students then proceeded to emergency rooms in Dover, Denville, Morristown and Livingston,” Christopher C. Treston, a school board candidate, posted on his campaign Facebook page. “The emergency departments at Dover and at Morristown were not given any warning of what was coming, and were overwhelmed.”
As the Daily Record reports, Sheryll Lynne Penney, a former Randolph PTO president and mother of a 2017 Randolph High graduate, spoke exclusively in that capacity with the Daily Record. Penney said she had been contacted by several parents who expressed similar confusion and anger. Those parents said they believed their constitutional rights, as well as the rights of their children, had been violated.
“The students sign a code of conduct and they need to be held accountable, but so does the administration for handling the situation professionally,” Penney said.
In spite of forcing all 75 students to submit to unconstitutional blood and urine tests, only five students were found to have had alcohol in their bloodstream.
“Let me be very clear: teenage drinking is a serious problem, and it did in fact occur at our school on Friday night,” Treston wrote. “Our process of preventing backpacks, bottles and cans from entering the stadium broke down. In addition, some number of students arrived intoxicated. We owe it to the community to identify such students, and to protect them and the community. But, we also need to do it in a way that protects the rights and dignity of the student body. When the accused-but-innocent outnumber the guilty 16 to one, we probably did it wrong.”

What this policy does is condition students to think that it’s okay to violate the rights of the innocent in order to catch a few people who may be breaking the rules—a dangerous path—and one the U.S. has been travelling down for far too long.
Exercise can undoubtedly help you live better, but what about longer? Are there certain activities that are better than others? Yes, and yes. A study published in the BMJ suggests that exercise can reduce your risk of death from cardiovascular-related issues (think heart disease or stroke), and there are certain activities that may be more beneficial than others. [1]
Dr. Pekka Oja, of the UKK Institute for Health Promotion Research in Finland, says:
“There is plenty of evidence showing that physical activity is good for our health. But (the World Health Organization) recommends generic physical activity, without specifics. We were interested in how sports could contribute to health and how different sport disciplines could benefit health.”
Oja and his team wanted to expand upon existing studies regarding the benefits of exercise. A great deal of past research has focused on the short-term benefits of exercise on health, or the effects of exercise intensity, but they didn’t show the long-term effects, Oja says.
Ultimately, the researchers wanted to figure out whether exercise delays death, either from cardiovascular disease or other causes. They also wanted to know which types of physical activity might extend life the longest.
So, Oja and his colleagues analyzed data from 11 annual health surveys from England and Scotland conducted between 1994 and 2008, involving 80,306 adults with an average age of 52.
Participants self-reported what type and how much exercise they had done in the last 4 weeks, and whether it had made them breathless and caused them to sweat. Exercise included:
The team tracked the participants’ survival for an average of 9 years, during which time 8,790 participants died from all causes. Of that number, 1,909 died from heart disease or stroke.
When the researchers compared the participants who exercised with those who did not, they found that risk of death during the follow-up period from any cause was:
Racquet sports appeared to be the best type of exercise for preventing death from heart disease and stroke. Racquet sports players were found to have a 56% lower risk of death, while swimmers had a 41% lower risk, and those who participated in aerobics had a 36% lower risk compared to non-exercisers.
Runners and footballers did have a lower rate of death from heart disease. Tim Chico, a consultant cardiologist at professor at Britain’s Sheffield University, who was not involved in the study, said:
“Although this was not ‘statistically significant’, many other studies have found that runners live longer and suffer less heart disease.
I will continue to tell my patients that regular physical activity (including running) is more effective in reducing their risk of heart disease than any drug I can prescribe.” [2]
When it comes to physical activity, any exercise is good exercise. If participants were active, no matter how, they reduced their risk of death.

Were you picturing a church? It’s actually a football stadium – and it happens each fall and winter in cities across America.
What happened that caused us to misplace our worship? We go to church and sing a few songs, check our watches waiting for the preacher to be done, and then rush home and cheer on our favorite team. And if our team loses, our world is shattered. Sadly, for so many Americans, football has become an idol.
The most-watched television event in U.S. history is … a football game. When Seattle defeated Denver to win the 2014 Super Bowl, 111.5 million Americans watched, placing it at No. 1. Second place on the list? A football game. Third place? A football game. In fact, Super Bowls account for the 21 most-watched events in American television history.
So, what about cable television? After all, Super Bowls are only on broadcast TV. Well, the most-watched event in cable TV history, too, is a football game. When Ohio State triumphed over Oregon this year in the college football national championship, 33.3 million Americans watched – a cable record. The semifinal games drew an average of 28 million.
And we didn’t even mention television contract rights. ESPN pays $1.9 billion each year to televise NFL games, FOX $1.1 billion and CBS $1.0 billion.
How did we get here?
There is nothing wrong with football, but we somehow have shifted from enjoyment of a good thing to the making of a false god. We now derive our joy and value from whether our team wins or loses – and not from the God of the Bible.
In a word, we now commit idolatry in the name of fandom. That’s what sin does; it takes something good and distorts it into something else, drawing our eyes off of God. It is the very thing Satan did in the garden with Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:1-5).
Cotton Mather once said, “Faithfulness begets prosperity, and the daughter devours the mother.” What did he mean? Faithfulness can lead to prosperity, but prosperity will cause us to become complacent and to replace a desire for faithfulness with a desire for more prosperity — and we will sacrifice faithfulness in the name of prosperity.

Football is a child of American prosperity. Billions are paid in advertising, each team builds a new stadium in an attempt to out-do the last team that built a new stadium, and player contracts are astronomical for the sake of entertaining the fan and winning games. This is all possible because football is extremely profitable.
Where it gets personal, however, is when we realize football’s prosperity is due to us. Football makes billions because we have elevated it to a God-like status.
The first commandment God gave Moses read, “You shall have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). When we elevate something to a level that it receives the affection that only God deserves, the praise that only God deserves, and the attention that only God deserves, we break the first commandment and sin. When we allow a game and our team’s performance to affect our mood while being indifferent toward the work of God in our lives and the lives of others, we break the first commandment. When we neglect our time with God and His people for the sake of something temporal, we break the first commandment. When we care more about the advancement of our team than the advancement of the Kingdom of God, we break the first commandment.
It would be bad enough if it ended there. But there is a more insidious thing that happens when we establish a lifestyle of obsession over something other than God: We teach others to do the same thing.
Truth is, you are always preaching – whether it is with your words or your actions. There are always eyes on you and ears listening to you … and sometimes those eyes and ears are very impressionable. Perhaps they are your own children.
Moses told the Israelites, “You shall teach [God’s law] diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise” (Deuteronomy 6:7). When we obsess over football, we are doing just the opposite, teaching our children that idolatry is an acceptable way of life.
Please understand: Watching football does not equal idolatry. However, when football (or any sport for that matter) becomes something that defines you, affects you, consumes your thoughts, and controls your wallet – then it is bordering on idolatry.
What if we cared as much about the advancement of the Kingdom of God as we do about our team advancing the football down the field? What if we showed the same heartfelt elation over the worship of God as we do cheering for our team?
As the Super Bowl approaches, consider putting football in its rightful place: a good thing to be enjoyed, but not a god thing to be worshiped. We were made to worship. The question is: What will you worship?
