Solar radiation storm engulfs Earth after Sunday’s X8.28 flare departure from the Sun

(INTELLIHUB) — A moderate solar radiation storm engulfed Earth Monday as micro-particles traveling from Sunday’s X8.28 solar flare struck the planet at the speed of light.

According to a Space Weather Live report, the flare was the second largest of the current 11-year solar cycle next to the recent Sept. 9 X9.3 which derived from the same region on the Sun’s surface.

Specae Weather Live confirms that Sunday’s flare was “highly eruptive.”

Solar data provided by NOAA/SWPC Boulder, Colorado indicates a massive fluctuation of the Sun’s X-rays took place sometime after noon on Sept. 10 which backs up other reports.

Uncovered FEMA Report Warns: 4-10 Years WITHOUT ELECTRICITY After Major Solar Storm

Uncovered FEMA Report Warns: 4-10 Years WITHOUT ELECTRICITY After Major Solar StormJune 28, 2017

A perfect solar storm similar to one that slammed into Earth in 1859 would knock out the United States electric grid for four to 10 years if it hit today, an unpublished report from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) indicates.

The 36-page report was posted this month at GovernmentAttic.org, which uncovers old government documents that often are acquired via Freedom of Information Act requests. The 2010 document was titled, “Mitigation strategies for FEMA command, control, and communications during and after a solar superstorm.”

The storm that hit Earth in 1859 was dubbed the Carrington Event and caught telegraph machines – the most advanced technology of the day – on fire.

Are Your Prepared For A Downed Grid? Get Backup Electricity Today!

Predicting what would happen if that type of solar crashed into Earth in the 21st century, the document says: “Significant power grid collapses may occur in North America and elsewhere; could require 4-10 years to fully restore.”

But even a smaller storm, like the one that hit Earth in 1921, would “could cause large-scale power grid collapse” if it hit today.

The report predicts that Internet, cable TV and telephone service would shut down. Cell phone service also would quickly be lost.

“Approximately 60% of the cellular towers in the U.S. have battery backup only for 2-24 hours,” the report states. “As these towers lose power, large portions of the cellular network will begin to fail. Urban and populated suburban areas are more likely to have cell towers with generator backup with fuel reserves ranging from 1-7 days, depending on location and equipment owner.”

FEMA never published the report, which is dated December 2010. Off The Grid News reached out to an expert on the grid who has frequent contact with government agencies. This person said the report appeared to be legitimate.

“This paper recreates the 1859 event today using the latest research to explain and understand: 1) The nature and effects of radio blackouts, solar radiation storms, and geomagnetic storms; 2) their potential for cascading effects on global power and telecommunications systems; and, 3) the implications for FEMA …in planning for and responding to such an event,” the report reads.

A Carrington-type event would generate massive amounts of energy that would blow out transformers. It is the replacement of these transformers that is of concern to FEMA and other government agencies. Each transformer is custom-made; there are no backup parts. It is not known how many transformers there are in the U.S., but it likely is in the tens of thousands. Each one takes up to two years to build.

“Loss of key infrastructure for extended periods due to the cascading effects from a space weather event (or other disturbance) could lead to a lack of food, given low inventories and reliance on just-in-time delivery, loss of basic transportation, inability to pump fuel, and loss of refrigeration,” is how a 2008 report from the National Academy of Sciences described the aftermath of a major solar storm.

The Imminent ‘Global Catastrophe’ No One Sees Coming

Kim Jon Un

The world has been focused on the threat from North Korea in recent weeks, concerned about the reclusive country setting off a traditional nuclear weapon or even an EMP. But there is a more persistent threat out there that we rarely think about – and there’s very little that we can do about it.

It is the sun, and, yes, it can take down the power grid with little warning.

This week’s guest on Off The Grid Radio is Arthur Bradley, a NASA engineer who is an expert on solar storms and disaster preparedness, having authored 15 books on the subject.

The last major solar storm to hit the Earth took place in 1859 – long before the power grid was put in place. If such a storm were to hit us now, Bradley says, it would cause a “global catastrophe,” crippling the grid for a year or more and causing millions of deaths.

Even worse: Bradley says we’re “past due” for such a storm.

Bradley also tells us:

  • Why the power grid essentially would be “un-repairable” and down for so long.

  • Whether the grid truly can be hardened to protect it from solar threats.

  • How Earth barely survived a solar storm just five years ago.

If you’re concerned about the future of your family and want to be prepared, then this is one show you don’t want to miss!

NASA Reveals Vast Hole in the Sun That Could “Cripple Power Supplies”

solar-flare-1

NASA has released a graphic showing a rip in the fabric of the sun, so to speak, that is leaking solar radiation through a hole in its surface.

This is sending a bombardment of particles towards earth that could interfere with the electric grid and disrupt any technologies that are electromagnetic based.

The experts aren’t expecting a major storm this time – with only a G2 warning issued for the current onset of unusual solar activity. This will be enough only to heighten the aurora borealis effects and test the real world resilience of satellites and other sensitive equipment.

Here’s what it looks like:

But future solar eruptions – which could become more volatile if the sun is experiencing drastic changes or anomalies – could be much worse. If a G4 or G5 level solar storm or other space weather event impacts earth, there could definitely be a lights out scenario where supplies and communications reach a critical level, while desperation and unrest set in:

via Daily Mail:

An elongated coronal hole stretching across the face of the sun sent solar wind particles gushing toward Earth last week.

NASA’s Solar Dynamics Observatory has revealed a stunning animation of the phenomenon, showing the massive dark patch marring the surface of our star.
[…]

These are areas in which the magnetic field has opened, allowing solar wind particles to come streaming out.

[…]

Space-weather forecasters issued a ‘G2 alert’, the second lowest classification on the geomagnetic storm scale… the resulting geomagnetic storm, while minor, could have some effects on satellites and the power grid.

[…]

‘The principal users affected by geomagnetic storms are the electrical power grid, spacecraft operations, users of radio signals that reflect off of or pass through the ionosphere, and observers of the aurora,’ the NOAA said.

Stronger storms have taken place, and those who are paying attention are anticipating a major, crippling event:

This past fall, solar winds triggered a giant geomagnetic storm, raising fears that they could cripple power supplies. Warnings were issued by the operator of the biggest power grid in the US, PJM Interconnection LLC, as well as by Midcontinent Independent System Operator, which manages high-voltage power lines across North America…

The solar storms could potentially affect telecommunications and power infrastructures all over the globe.

Military and national security infrastructure has already taken precautions. Specialized cement has been invented and commercialized to shield both new and existing buildings from the harm that would be caused by an EMP event or similar disruption via the electromagnetic spectrum.

Man has adapted rapidly, and utilized technological progress over the many frequencies of the known spectrum. But nature still holds its power over this same band of frequencies, and can unleash some powerful forces that could potentially knockdown or wipe out human-made devices. Meanwhile, governments and rogue players also hold the power to initiate an EMP attack – it remains the most realistic, widespread scenario for a major disaster outside of economic collapse or a truly catastrophic earthquake or volcano.

Individuals can prepare for this eventuality by building or utilizing a Faraday Cage (a basic metal trashcan with a lid is the simplest way to go). Whatever goes inside is shielded from EMP or electromagnetic disaster. Backup computers, electronics and communications devices need to be stored in one or multiple locations, along with all other preps.

This one could really happen. It is just a question of when, and of what magnitude.
