Hidden Camera Catches YouTube & NY Times Employees Brag On Ability to Control What You See

(RT) — YouTube’s curation team are able to promote even non-trending videos on the platform by “using some kind of intervention” into algorithms controlling the website. This allows specific news organizations to be favored, Project Veritas revealed.

Investigative group Project Veritas secretly filmed Earnest Pettie, the Brand and Diversity Curation Lead at YouTube, who said he works “on a team that does provide some human inputs into a lot of the machinery of YouTube.” This would mean that videos from specific news sources could be made to appear at the top of search results.

Petite explained how YouTube’s so-called news carousel is formed: “It’s above the search results, so at the very least, we can say this shelf of videos from news partners is legitimate news because we know that these are legitimate news organizations.”

“People are searching for a topic that our systems know is a ‘newsy’ topic, so let’s give them videos that we know to be newsy because we know we have these news partnerships.”

“In very rare cases we will try to make up to the fact that something isn’t in the trending tab,” he admitted. “Use some kind of intervention to… encourage the thing to be there, basically.”

In the recording Pettie also says Nick Dudich, audience strategy editor for the New York Times, is “one of the people I think who has more knowledge about YouTube as a platform than probably anyone else that I know.”

Speaking with a member of Project Veritas, Dudich said that he placed a negative report about Facebook in a spot where he knew it wouldn’t draw much attention, while bragging about using his Silicon Valley friendships to make videos trend.

“We actually just did a video about Facebook negatively, and I chose to put it in a spot that I knew wouldn’t do well,” Dudich said in the secretly filmed conversation.

Dudich claimed that his friends in Silicon Valley helped NYT videos trend, while saying he doesn’t want the NYT to know about his connections, according to Project Veritas.

“Let’s say something ends up on the YouTube front page, the New York Times freaks out about it, but they don’t know it’s just because my friends curate the front page. So, it’s like, a little bit of mystery you need in any type of job to make it look like what you do is harder than what it is,” Dudich says in the recording.

The video released Wednesday is the latest in a Project Veritas series called “American Pravda,” aimed at the US mainstream media. The installment released Tuesday also featured recordings of Dudich, in which he claims he worked for Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign to counter the “threat” of Trump and that he did not join the Times to “be objective.”

It is impossible to assess the credibility of Dudich’s claims, however, as he also claimed that former FBI Director James Comey was his godfather, and that he used to participate in Antifa activities on behalf of the FBI.

Dudich admitted this was not true after Project Veritas interviewed his father, who said he didn’t even know Comey. It was “a good story,” Dudich said when asked why he lied.

In response to the Tuesday video, a New York Times spokeswoman Danielle Rhoades Ha said that Dudich was a “recent hire in a junior position” who appeared to have “violated [the newspaper’s] ethical standards and misrepresented his role.”

“In his role at The Times, he was responsible for posting already published video on other platforms and was never involved in the creation or editing of Times videos. We are reviewing the situation now,” Rhoades Ha said.

James O’Keefe, who founded Project Veritas in 2010, has released a number of controversial undercover videos, including one with CNN political commentator Van Jones this summer. Jones accused O’Keefe of editing the video in such a way as to take his words out of context and create a “hoax.”

In the Veritas video Jones was recorded saying the investigation into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 election was “a big nothing-burger.” Jones said the missing context was that he said Democrats couldn’t use it to impeach Trump, even if the allegations were true.

NY Times Deletes Tweet After Internet Owned them for Praising US-led GENOCIDE in Yemen

The NY Times—reacting to the furious backlash from the internet—was forced to delete a tweet this week which praised the United States and Saudi Arabia’s role in keeping Yemen “under close watch.”

“How did Yemen — a country under the close watch of the United States and Saudi Arabia — fall so swiftly into crisis?” read the tweet. The sheer callous disregard for reality and praise of the countries responsible for perpetrating the mass genocide and starvation of innocent people was not met too well by those paying attention.

“Are you fucking kidding me?” one Twitter user wrote, “repeated bombings that just fell out of the sky or what?”

“Did you think it was candy they were dropping on those funerals?” another person noted.

After receiving dozens of replies calling them out for praising terrorism in Yemen, the NY Times pulled the tweet. But, thanks to the internet, we caught them.

This Tweet could have been an attempt by the Times to bash President Trump for not being so “watchful” over Yemen. And, some uninformed individuals in the replies attempted to lay the blame solely on the new warmonger in chief. However, this thread was dominated by those paying attention.

“Look at the White House if you’re confused and need an example. ” a twitter user wrote—ignoring Obama’s role in Yemen—before being immediately shut down by several more people.

“This was happening under Obama,” read one tweet.

“And he (Trump) just threw $110 billion at Saudi, continuing Obama’s policies. Talking to the average American makes me want to puke,” one user so eloquently pointed out—and he’s right.

Only a few weeks into his presidency, Donald Trump made clear his policy of continuing the annihilation and genocide of the citizens of Yemen. Following in Barack Obama’s footsteps, Trump launched an attack on Yemen only days after taking office which led to the death of multiple civilians, including women and children.

Among the dead was the 8-year-old granddaughter of Nasser al-Awlaki, Nawar Anwar al-Awlaki, who was also the daughter of Anwar Awlaki — a US citizen extrajudicially murdered by the Obama administration. Nasser al-Awlaki explained that his granddaughter was shot in the neck and suffered for hours as she bled to death.

Nawar’s death epitomizes the rapacious and savage nature of the US presence in Yemen and their continued aid to the terrorist nation of Saudi Arabia who indiscriminately bombs schools, hospitals, and civilian neighborhoods within the nation.

The result of US intervention in Yemen has been catastrophic. The US is facilitating the mass starvation and genocide and the mainstream media—including NY Times—is largely silent.

“We are witnessing the starving and the crippling of an entire generation,” António Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations said. “We must act now to save lives.”

While many outlets cover the effects of US foreign policy in Yemen, such as starvation and genocide, almost none of them actually look at US foreign policy as the cause.

As TFTP previously reported, to understand why Yemen is in such peril, it’s critical to look further into the United States’ tangled web of foreign policy and how it affects this region.

Gareth Porter, an investigative journalist, historian and analyst who has provided ample coverage of issues in the Middle East, wrote that the Saudi coalition has wreaked havoc upon Yemen civilians through a “war strategy of maximizing pressure on the Houthi resistance by destroying agricultural, health and transportation infrastructure and by choking off access to food and fuel for most of Yemen’s population.” At the same time, the United States has “played a crucial role in enabling the Saudi strategy responsible” for the crisis faced in Yemen today:

“The United States has enabled the Saudis to pursue that strategy by refueling the Saudi-led coalition planes bombing Yemen and selling the bombs. Equally important, however, the US has provided the political-diplomatic cover that the Saudis need to carry out this ruthless endeavor without massive international blowback.

The Trump administration has gone even further in supporting the Saudi strategy.  Whereas the Obama administration opposed a Saudi-led coalition offensive to regain control over the main port of Hodeidah and the rest of the Red Sea coast, saying it would worsen the humanitarian crisis in Yemen, the Trump administration has clearly given the green light to the Saudis to launch that offensive.”

The bottom line is that the United States favors its relations with Saudi Arabia despite their unspeakable acts of violence toward civilians.

Thanks to US foreign policy, 7 million civilians are starving to death in Yemen and 19 million are in need of some form of aid. At least 9.6 million children, which amounts to 80% of all Yemeni children, are in need of humanitarian assistance. “Nearly 2.2 million children are acutely malnourished and require urgent care. Close to half a million children suffer from severe acute malnutrition, a life-threatening condition that has seen a drastic increase of 200 percent since 2014,” according to a Unicef report.

All of these atrocities are unfolding because of the United States and their aid to Saudi Arabia and the NY Times refers to this as keeping a “close watch.”

Well, NY Times, the gig is up. People are waking up to these wars, realizing that the puppet in the white house is irrelevant in regards to empire building and we aren’t buying it anymore. Delete all the tweets you want, we are watching and will not forget.

Scientists call out New York Times for incorrect claim about climate report

Scientists call out New York Times for incorrect claim about climate report

By Alex Pappas

Scientists appear to have debunked The New York Times’ claim it was leaked a secret, gloomy climate change report which it published amid fears President Trump would suppress it.

On Monday, The New York Times published a story saying there are concerns that the Trump administration could suppress what’s known as the National Climate Assessment, a project of the U.S. Global Change Research Program.

The story, titled “Scientists fear Trump will dismiss blunt climate report,” said the draft report “has not yet been made public” but “a copy of it was obtained by The New York Times.”

The paper also said “those who challenge scientific data on human-caused climate change” are worried the report will be publicly released.

But those who worked on the report are pushing back against the claims, saying the version that was obtained and posted in full by the New York Times has actually been online and available to the public for months.

“It’s not clear what the news is in this story,” Robert Kopp, a climate scientist at Rutgers University who is listed on the report as among the lead authors, said on Twitter.

“The Times’ leaked draft has been on the Internet Archive since January, during the public comment period,” Kopp said.

NY Times Just Admitted Key Component to Russia Hacking Narrative is FALSE

russia

For the last several months, the narrative on Russia hacking the election has been slowly exposed as a massive farce. However, this week, that slow crawl toward death turned into a full on sprint as CNN, not once, but twice admitted that they’ve been pushing fake Russian news with no proof — for ratings. Now, joining in the magnificent fall from the fake news pedestal, the New York Times quietly admitted their ‘bombshell’ backbone to the entire Russian narrative was simply not true.

“Seventeen intelligence agencies” — if you’ve come across any of the Russian hysteria over the bogus hacking claims over the past 8 months, you’ve likely heard that little snippet repeated ad nauseam. It was the lynchpin to the case against Russia which was all started by Hillary Clinton back in back in October.

While most free thinking individuals saw it for the ridiculous assertion that it was, the mainstream media picked it up and parrotted it out over and over again to push their fake narrative.

As WikiLeaks comically pointed out last October, these intelligence agencies include domestic groups like the Coast Guard, DEA, and the Department of Energy — none of whom ever threw their hat into the ‘we support the fake Russian narrative’ ring.

As Caitlin Johnstone eloquently points out in a post on Medium, despite the sheer insanity of these claims, many high-profile pro-establishment outlets like Politifact and USA Today found Clinton’s claims to be 100 percent true on the grounds that James Clapper, then-Director of National Intelligence and notorious Russophobic racist, “speaks on behalf of” all 17 intelligence agencies. To this day Politifact stands by its false claim on the basis of that same spurious assertion.

WikiLeaks went further last month and pointed out that the “17 intelligence agencies” fake talking point had been used thousands of times in multiple different publications — all as ‘proof’ Russia hacked the election. However, that real number was only three. And, even those three were made up of a loose cherry-picked handful of individuals.

In spite of this massive web of lies that 17 intelligence agencies all came to the same conclusion over Russian hacking being exposed as a massive farce, the media pressed on. Even Hillary Clinton herself took to her pulpit at the 2017 code conference last month to shove it in our faces once more:

“Seventeen agencies, all in agreement, which I know from my experience as a Senator and Secretary of State, is hard to get. They concluded with high confidence that the Russians ran an extensive information war campaign against my campaign, to influence voters in the election. They did it through paid advertising we think; they did it through false news sites; they did it through these thousand agents; they did it through machine learning, which you know, kept spewing out this stuff over and over again. The algorithms that they developed. So that was the conclusion.”

After the glorious admission by CNN that their coverage of Russia is mostly “bullshit,” the NY Times apparently felt the heat and didn’t want to face the same embarrassing fate. So, yesterday afternoon, on a four-day-old article, all the way at the bottom, in a single paragraph, the NY Times quietly admitted that it’s all a scam.

Correction: June 29, 2017

A White House Memo article on Monday about President Trump’s deflections and denials about Russia referred incorrectly to the source of an intelligence assessment that said Russia orchestrated hacking attacks during last year’s presidential election. The assessment was made by four intelligence agencies — the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Central Intelligence Agency, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the National Security Agency. The assessment was not approved by all 17 organizations in the American intelligence community.

As the Free Thought Project has continuously reported, there has yet to be a single shred of concrete evidence proving interference in the 2016 election by Russia. In spite of the mainstream media putting out stories of anonymous sources confirming Russian hacking, other than documents claiming it happened, the public has seen nothing.

READ MORE:  Corporate Media is Lying to You -- Syrian Army Freed Aleppo, There is No Genocide

This complete lack of evidence was backed up earlier this month during fired FBI Director James Comey’s Senate testimony, during which he admitted he’s never seen any evidence of Russian interference in the election.

It’s a lie and a dangerous one at that.

Aside from the mountain of admissions, exposed falsehoods, and half-truths swarming the steaming pile of horse manure that is ‘Russiagate’, even the president has proven he’s no fan of Russia. If Donald Trump was somehow put into power by Russia, why on Earth is he trying to start World War 3 with them by attacking the Assad regime in Syria? Also, why is the Pentagon, under his direction, forging a budget of $700 billion to amass troops and weapons in Eastern Europe to deal with the non-existent Russian threat?

The short answer to those questions is that Donald Trump benefits from this hysteria. It makes him look like the victim of a witch hunt while he gets to continue the foreign policy of his predecessors, Barack Obama and George Bush. As Vladimir Putin previously pointed out, Trump is merely a puppet and it matters not which puppet is in power — the machine marches on.

The establishment deals in a very addictive drug called distraction — and American citizens are junkies for it. While the divide and conquer tactics keep the citizens fighting over superficial and irrelevant issues, the status quo marches on, laying waste to everything it touches — including entire countries and their citizens, men, women, and children.

The Right Way to Challenge Fake News

The Right Way to Challenge Fake News | fake-news-propaganda | Mainstream Media Politics Propaganda Trump

Trump is right challenging fake news. It’s about time someone in high office did it. He’s going about it the wrong way.

Without speech, media and academic freedoms, all other rights are threatened.

Barring certain media outlets from attending Friday’s White House press briefing while letting others in was wrongheaded and counterproductive.

The NYT falsely called the move unprecedented, “something no administration of either party has ever done.”

Not quite. In 2009, the Obama White House said it would no longer conduct interviews with Fox News as a member of the press pool, an unprecedented act at the time.

Other media outlets objected. The White House relented. It remained hostile to Fox News criticism of its policies.

On February 24, NYT editors blasted Trump’s move, absurdly calling it “a backhanded compliment to the reporters whose honest work provoked the president’s latest foot-stamping tantrum” – a gratuitous insult, falsely referring to barred news organizations as “trustworthy.”

Far from it! The Times and other media scoundrels feature fake news, suppressing what’s most important to report.

They’re largely anti-Trump, inventing reasons to bash him. Justifiable criticism is warranted. Biased reporting defiles what journalism is supposed to be.

On Friday, Trump called media “the opposition party…mak(ing) up stories and mak(ing) up sources.”

Candidate Trump said he wasn’t “running against crooked Hillary. I’m running against the crooked media,” he stressed – referring to the media as the “lowest form of humanity.”

Throughout the campaign, they went all out to get him, continuing post-inauguration. The power of scoundrel media manipulated public sentiment works.

Fiction substitutes for important facts. News is sanitized, dissent marginalized. Supporting wealth, power and privilege substitutes for full and accurate reporting.

Wars of aggression are called liberating ones. They’re glorified in the name of peace. Civil liberties are suppressed for our own good. Patriotism means supporting what harms the public welfare.

Might is justified as right. Raping nations is called democracy building. Looting them is considered economic development. Free societies are threatened. Tyranny stalks America.

Truth-telling is a vital disinfectant. The way to challenge media scoundrels isn’t by barring them from press briefings. It’s by exposing their fake news with hard, irrefutable facts.

Trump has bully pulpit power. He has over 25 million Twitter followers plus other ways to counter media lies if done responsibly.

On Friday, he tweeted,

“FAKE NEWS media knowingly doesn’t tell the truth. A great danger to our country. The failing @nytimes has become a joke. Likewise @CNN. Sad!”

Most Americans distrust the media for good reason. Growing numbers rely on alternative sources to stay informed. It’s the only way!

NYT Big Lies About Trump’s Ties to Russia

NYT Big Lies About Trump’s Ties to Russia | NYTimes-1024x576 | Mainstream Media Politics Propaganda Trump (image: Mario Tama/Getty Images)

The Times gives journalism a bad name. It’s a lying machine, not a credible source of news, information and analysis.

Paul Craig Roberts asked if it’s being “sustained by CIA subsidies.” The agency has billions of dollars to spend on nefarious activities, unrelated to keeping America safe.

The Times is viciously anti-Russia, anti-Trump. “Bring on the special prosecutor,” it roared in a Friday editorial, outrageously claiming Trump administration ties to Russia, despite no evidence proving any wrongdoing or anything out of the ordinary.

In an effort to undermine or oust him from office, it’s trying to invent a Watergate-type scenario, the way Nixon was wrongfully framed for pursuing anti-establishment policies.

The Times wants an anti-Trump special prosecutor the way Nixon was attacked. It rejects FBI director James Comey’s involvement for daring to question Hillary’s integrity, what she abandoned before and after becoming first lady.

Attorney General Sessions is out for The Times because of his support for Trump.

The Times: “Mr. Trump’s unexplained allegiance to that country and its thug of a president, Vladimir Putin, has been a major concern from the start of his candidacy.”

“But the scope of a potential investigation expanded sharply in the last four days, with the firing of Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, Michael Flynn, for lying to the White House about his contacts with the Russian ambassador, and the news that members of the Trump campaign’s inner circle were in repeated contact with Russian intelligence agents last year, at the same time that Russia was actively attempting to swing the election to Mr. Trump.”

Fact: No responsible editor would  publish this rubbish. The Times features it.

Fact: Trump deserves universal support by wanting improved relations with Russia – if he means it by following through responsibly, not so far. Rhetoric doesn’t substitute for policy.

Fact: No credible evidence suggests any improper contacts between Trump campaign members and Russia – none with its intelligence.

Fact: Accusations of Russian US election hacking were fabricated – The Times one of the leading proliferators of falsified claims.

Trump has been in office less than one month. Calling for a special prosecutor is a politicized Times effort to further denigrate and undermine him toward achieving its aim of ousting him.

All public officials should be held accountable for their actions – not by inventing reasons to attack them.

The Times went at Trump throughout the campaign this way. It’s continuing the same jihad post-inauguration.

An independent special prosecutor is needed to investigate The Times and other media scoundrels for fake news reporting, not journalism the way it’s supposed to be.
