Flat-Earther FINALLY Launches Himself Into The Air, Crashes, Goes To Hospital

Infamous flat-earther Mike Hughes has finally managed to get his homemade rocket off the ground.  Of course, who could have predicted that launching yourself into the air would result in a horrific crash, and a trip to the hospital?

Anyone, really.  If you can’t see the curvature of the Earth from a plane, as many flat-earthers proclaim, how are you going to prove the Earth is flat from a substantially lower elevation?  Common sense isn’t a flower that grows in everyone’s garden, however.

According to The Independent, “Mad” Mike, built the steam-powered rocket using scrap metal and ended up spending around $20,000 (£15,000) on the beast. Truly living up to his name, “Mad” Mike went for it and launched himself into the air, as an online video proves. However, it’s only true to say that his flight into orbit was pretty damn short, to say the least.  His “flight” lasted around 4 seconds in total before he landed crashed hard in the Mojave Desert.

In all honesty, a plane could have taken him quite a bit higher.

After paramedics checked him over, Mad Mike said, “I’m tired of people saying I chickened out and didn’t build a rocket. I’m tired of that stuff; I manned up and did it.” After his hard landing, 61-year-old Hughes, who works as a limousine driver, claimed he only had a bad back.

Upon impact, the nose of the homemade rocket, which Hughes had been creating from hand over the past few months, shattered as intended although Hughes admitted the landing was a close call. “This thing wants to kill you 10 different ways. Am I glad I did it? Yeah, I guess. I’ll feel it in the morning. I won’t be able to get out of bed. At least I can go home and have dinner and see my cats tonight.” Hughes said.

It is estimated that Mike reached a speed of 350 mph and a height of 1,875 feet before parachutes, reportedly supplied by NASA, were deployed allowing the rocket to land, relatively safely.

A year ago, Hughes said, “I don’t believe in science. I know about aerodynamics and fluid dynamics and how things move through the air, about the certain size of rocket nozzles, and thrust, but that’s not science, that’s just a formula. There’s no difference between science and science fiction.”

So, did Hughes prove that the Earth is flat? No. But he is a true eccentric.

Flat-Earther’s Rocket Launch Fails AGAIN

flatearth

Unsurprisingly, the flat-earther who was going to launch himself into the sky to prove Earth is not a globe has failed yet again.

According to Live Science, “Mad” Mike Hughes, a flat-Earth conspiracy theorist who has managed to get significant attention for his now-repeated failed rocket launches, strapped himself into his second homemade rocket Saturday, February 3. But, as Noize TV documented in an excruciating 11-minute live stream of the event, Hughes’ rocket never left its pad. In all honesty, the video is almost painful to watch.

Hughes’ stated plan, as Live Science previously reported, is to launch himself 1,800 feet (550 meters) above the desert in California and take photos before bailing out in a parachute. These photos, shot from a height anyone can reach by climbing a very tall building or even a small mountain, will, Hughes claims, prove that the Earth is flat.

Hughes was forced to cancel his previous launch after the Bureau of Land Management caught wind that he planned to crash his rocket into the government’s land. In a video posted to YouTube, Hughes claimed that Saturday’s failure resulted from a faulty plunger or a blown o-ring. However, he added that the details will remain unclear until the rocket cools down and he opens it up to examine it in detail.

Hughes went on to say that the launch could still happen this week — though he does have to be in court Tuesday because he’s suing several California officials, from Democrat Governor Jerry Brown to U.S. Senator Kamala Harris, D-Calif. “It’s just aggravating,” he told a small crowd of reporters. “I mean, what do you do?”

Here’s what you do.  Realize that basic mathematics proves the earth is a globe.  It’s pretty easy for anyone, even children, to show that the Earth is round with a simple experiment. Perhaps the most impressive and easiest experiment that even schools can do today, is to send a camera up in a high-altitude balloon. The footage will show that from a high-enough vantage point you can see the curvature of the Earth. This is what Mike Hughes will find if he ever makes his rocket work- maybe. The planet’s curvature doesn’t become visible to the naked eye until a height of about 35,000 feet (10,700 m), Hughes assumed 1800 feet would provide proof that the Earth is flat.

NASA Astronauts Respond To Plan To ‘Prove Earth Is Flat’

buzzaldrin

If you’ve spent any time on the internet in the past few years, you would know that there is a growing movement of human beings who firmly believe that the Earth is flat. One of those humans, rapper B.o.B, made headlines last week when he created a GoFundMe page to finance his project which he believes will prove the Earth is flat, but astronauts have already responded.

When the astronauts caught wind of rapper B.o.B’s plan they responded to his asinine idea brilliantly. B.o.B’s idea was to “send a satellite as far into space as possible” to take a photo of the Earth, which he believes will look like a map.

Since B.o.B is obviously not a scientist and has a very limited understanding of mathematics, astronauts took some time out of their day to try to save the young man some money.

Buzz Aldrin, one of the first two men to land on the moon, and the second man to actually walk on the moon during the Apollo 11 mission, then jumped in to derail the hopes of flat-earthers everywhere.

NASA astronaut Scott Kelly also had advice for B.o.B, as well as video evidence that the Earth is round. If he takes the 35 seconds required to watch it, he’ll see just how round the world is, and save his GoFundMe donors the $200,000 he’s asking for.

But B.o.B wasn’t deterred with actual evidence and the eyewitness accounts of men who have actually been in Earth’s orbit.

No amount of evidence will convince those who have already made up their mind what they “feel” is true. No amount of factual data and mathematical analysis will be enough evidence to get people to drop deeply held but wrong beliefs, making the flat-earther, akin to religious cultists.
