Four American Tourists Attacked With Acid In Marseilles Train Station, Suspect Arrested

Four young female U.S. tourists were attacked with acid Sunday in the French city of Marseille by a woman with "deep psychological problems" who has been arrested, the Marseille prosecutor"s office said according to AP

The attack took place shortly after 11am at the Gare de Marseille-Saint-Charles station, where the party from the US was preparing to board a train. The 41-year-old attacker used a cleaning substance containing hydrochloric acid that she is thought to have picked up from a local DIY store.

Two of the tourists were injured in the face in the attack in the city"s main Saint Charles train station and one of them has a possible eye injury, a spokeswoman for the Marseille prosecutor"s office said.  All four of the tourists, who are in their 20s, have been hospitalized, two of them for shock. She said a 41 -year-old female suspect has been arrested.

After carrying out the assault, the woman displayed photos of her own burns, allegedly picked up in an earlier incident. ‘Two American women aged 20 were hit in the face, while the other two were sprayed in the legs, and were mainly suffering from shock,’ said a source close to the case quoted by the Daily Mail. The two with facial injuries were taken to hospital, while the others were treated at the scene. They were also aged 20 or 21. The Americans were thought to be on their way from the southern Mediterranean city to Paris.

The attacker wanted to show off photographs of her own injuries.  She was arrested at the scene and faces charges. She displayed clear signs of suffering from deep psychological problems, according to local prosecutors. According to witnesses, no slogans were shouted out during the attack, and it was not thought to be terrorist related.

Prosecutors have opened a criminal enquiry, while none of those involved have yet been named. There was no immediate information on where the U.S. tourists were from.

Corrosive substances are increasingly being used as weapons in Europe, including in Britain, where there were 450 such attacks in London alone in last year. Acid-based products are easy to purchase, and can be paid for in cash, so there is no trace of who bought them.

In previous incidents in Marseille, a driver deliberately rammed into two bus stops last month, killing a woman, but officials said it wasn"t terror-related. According to AP, in April, French police say they thwarted an imminent "terror attack" and arrested two suspected radicals in Marseille just days before the first round of France"s presidential election. Paris prosecutor Francois Molins told reporters the two suspects "were getting ready to carry out an imminent, violent action" on French territory. In January 2016, a 15-year-old Turkish Kurd was arrested after attacking a Jewish teacher on a Marseille street. He told police he acted in the name of the Islamic State group.

Officer Stabbing At Flint Airport By "Allahu Akbar"-Shouting Canadian Investigated As Act Of Terrorism

Wednesday morning"s incident at Bishop airport in Flint, Michigan, in which an airport officer was stabbed in the neck is being investigated as a possible act of terrorism according to Federal investigators.

Lieutenant Jeff Neville, who retired from the Genesee County Sheriff"s Office, was stabbed in the neck and is listed in stable condition. Sources cited by ABC say Neville was at his post at the top of the escalators at Bishop when he was attacked from behind with a larger knife, similar to a Bowie knife.

The knife-yielding suspect is Canadian-born and shouted "Allahu Akbar" before stabbing the officer multiple law enforcement sources say. He was then taken into custody.

After the attack, Bishop International Airport was evacuated and is closed. The airport released the following statement:

"All passengers are safe and are being evacuated at this time. Please check with your airline for potential cancellations or delays."

The FBI is leading the investigation. The Flint City Hall began operating under heightened security in an abundance of caution after the incident.

"Right now we are still awaiting more information about the situation at Bishop Airport this morning," Flint Mayor Karen Weaver said. "My thoughts and prayers are with all of our law enforcement officers who work to service and protect us each and every day. I want the public to know that several agencies are involved and working to ensure the situation is under control. However, at this time we are taking extra precautions just to be safe."

London Mosque Attacker Identified As 47-Year-Old Father Of Four, Charged With Terrorism

The man suspected of using a van to attack worshipers at a London mosque has been identified as 47-year-old Darren Osborne, a father-of-four from Cardiff, Wales. Police have confirmed that he will be charged with the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism and attempted murder.

While a statement from the Metropolitan police says does not mention the attacker"s name but confirms he is being charged as a terrorist...

“A 47-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder and taken to a south London police station where he remains in custody.

He has further been arrested for the commission, preparation or instigation of terrorism including murder and attempted murder."

At this stage in the investigation, it is believed that the suspect acted alone but we are of course investigating all the circumstances leading up to the attack.

There were no reports of any people having suffered knife injuries.

Osborne"s neighbor, 52-year-old Dave Ashford, told the Guardian he was shocked to discover that Osborne was suspected of being behind the attack...

“Someone called me and said it was him and I said ‘It can’t be’. Then I saw the picture on the news and said, "it’s him."

As RT reports, one person died and 10 others were injured in the incident, which British Prime Minister Theresa May has called "sickening," and London"s mayor has described as a "horrific terrorist attack."

The attack took place after worshipers had finished prayers during the holy month of Ramadan. All of the victims were Muslim, according to police.
