Herbs For Pain Relief

I had someone ask me about natural herbal pain relief, so I have gathered some videos that give a variety of natural remedies. Herbal pain remedies have far fewer side effects than pharmaceutical medicines, and are non-addictive.

Should the SHTF, medicines probably won’t be available. You can store some in your Prep stores, but they don’t last long. Most herbs last for years, if dried. Start to learn what is available for whichever condition you need help with.

Your local health food stores will have these herbs available, and if you know any herbalists, they can help you out.

Edible & Medicinal Herbs

If things fall apart, where will you get medicines? How about from nature? Most pharmaceuticals are derived from natural plants and organisms. Why not go straight to the source? As an added bonus, it will be cheaper. First though, you need to learn where to look, and what parts of the plants to use, and how to use them.

Grow Your Own Medicine

James Wong is a scientist and a gardener. He grows plants that he turns into medicine. Anyone can do the same.

For thousands of years. humankind has known the value of plants that have healing properties. Medicinal herbs were in every medicine chest until the last hundred years, or so, when pharmaceutical companies began synthesizing drugs from common plants and patenting their new products. Today, few people are knowledgeable in herbal medicines. James Wong, and others, seek to change that fact.

Yes, you can make many of your own medicines. It is not hard.

Regeneration of Our Lands: A Producer’s Perspective

North Dakota rancher/farmer Gabe Brown is one of the leaders in developing new ways to regenerate soil health, which has been declining with large scale tilling, mono-crop farming and the uses of chemicals, herbicides and pesticides.

From the video description:

The United States is in crisis. The health of our soil resource has declined to such a point that it is not only negatively affecting farm and ranch profitability, but it is also having a devastating impact on everything from our water quality to our communities and even to our health. North Dakota rancher Gabe Brown walks us through a common sense solution to this crisis.

Gabe Brown is one of the pioneers of the current soil health movement that focuses on regenerating our resources. Gabe, along with his wife, Shelly, and son, Paul, own and operate a diversified 5,000-acre farm and ranch near Bismarck, ND. Their operation focuses on farming and ranching in nature’s image.

The Browns holistically integrate their grazing and no-till cropping systems, which include a wide variety of cash crops, multi-species cover crops along with all natural grass finished beef and lamb. They also raise pastured laying hens, broilers and swine. This diversity and integration has regenerated the natural resources on the ranch without the use of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and fungicides.

The Browns are part owners of a state inspected abattoir which allows them to direct market their products. They believe that healthy soil leads to clean air, clean water, healthy plants, animals, and people.

This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.

Wild Medicinal – Barberry

Hedge Living has two videos about Barberry. The first is about making a tincture with the Barberry berries. The berries are good for building your red blood cells. They also help improve the clotting of your blood. If you have a condition that increased clotting will be harmful, DO NOT use this Barberry berry tincture.

–

The second video shows the uses of the Barberry roots.

From the video description:

Barberry root is probably the most used antibiotic plant here. The brig yellow color of the root is berberine, the same antibiotic chemical that is is golden seal, oregon grape, and golden thread. Many herbalst actually say that the berberine in barberry is actually stronger than it is in golden seal and I have found that to be the case as well. Not to mention that barberry is usually easier to find than golden seal. Barberry is even sold in many nurseries as an ornamental hedge plant. The plant in my woods in Japanese barberry and is considered to be an invasive. There is no worry if I dig up too much of it, which is a worry if you dig up too much golden seal.

Mint Leaves: Health Benefits and Uses

Mint is a very useful plant, both for its aromatic and flavor enhancing abilities and for its many medicinal uses. It is easy to grow, and is found in the wild. Outside my door, I have some mint growing, which I needn’t tend except during dry times, when I water it. When it is hot, I sometimes take a leaf and chew on it, which seems to cool me a bit, but most of all, I love mint in a tea, with other healthy herbs. It calms the nerves.
