Earth Will Have A Close Encounter With Another Potentially Hazardous Asteroid TOMORROW

According to NASA, planet Earth set for a terrifying close encounter with “hazardous” monster asteroid the size of Buckingham Palace tomorrow. The size of this asteroid is still in question, but it won’t matter if it hits the Earth.

NASA originally assumed the asteroid dubbed 2017 VR12 was about the size of Buckingham Palace, or 250 meters wide.  Now they say it may be slightly smaller.  But all this size-wrangling would be largely academic if it hit Earth because the object is definitely big enough to wipe out a city.

According to Metro, it said the rock was one potential destination for a future mission to land a probe on the surface of an asteroid. If the asteroid was as big as the first estimate of 470 meters, it could have a surface area of almost 55 acres. The newer estimate would give it a surface area of just over 15 acres. Buckingham Palace takes up about 19 acres, with its gardens occupying another 40 acres.

But most scientists say this one won’t actually hit Earth this time around. The space rock will zoom past us at about 14,092 miles per hour at about four times the distance between the Earth and Moon, or 897,161 miles.  Luckily, it’s not going to hit us, because if it did it would release more energy than all the nuclear weapons detonated in the entirety of human history. The impact would create a crater of more than two miles wide, killing millions if it hit near a populated area.

It will reach the closest point of its journey past Earth tomorrow and you can watch live footage of the asteroid zooming by on The Virtual Telescope Project website.

Another Doomsayers Claim: Planet X Will Be Visible From Earth THIS YEAR

A prominent researcher, numerolgist, and theorist David Meade believes humanity could witness “naked-eye sightings” of planet Nibiru beginning in May of this year.  Meade is now sounding alarms for what he says could be the apocalypse, beginning with the return of Planet X.

According to The Daily Star, Meade and other theorists believe that Nibiru’s gravitational force could cause earthquakes and tsunamis, bringing about an “end days” scenario.  The Christian researcher previously claimed the planet would become visible last year.

However, after Planet X (also known as Wormwood and Planet Nibiru) didn’t appear, Meade changed the date to May of this year. That’s when Israel will celebrate 70 years since it was declared an independent nation. According to  Meade, this is a bold sign of the end of the world.

Numerologist Warns Planet Nibiru Is About To Smash Into Earth

“Anything from this Spring forward, anything will go,” said Meade. “Here’s what I believe is going to start in the Spring of 2018: I believe North Korea will ascend to become a world-class superpower in March of 2018. I believe the great tribulation will begin after a short period of peace. Planet X won’t appear until after the tribulation period commences, and I don’t think you can pinpoint a month, week, and day but I do believe 2018 is high watch and I would be very surprised if a year from now, that we will be talking about anything except Nibiru.”

Others claim Nibiru is already here.  Conspiracy theorist Paul Begley said, “There are asteroids, meteors – it’s all happening. The heavens are being shaken by some type of force, a gravitational pull. People are spotting now what looks like potentially Planet X. I have, from one night, three different people send me pictures of what looks like a Planet X.”

NASA has continually denied the existence of Nibiru, and The Church of England says Meade’s theories are based on misunderstandings of the Bible.  In this new theory, though, Meade doesn’t claim Nibiru will impact the Earth, only that its arrival will usher in the Biblical end of days, and the “trials and tribulations.”

An Object That Just Passed Earth Was So Strange Scientists Are Testing It for Alien Life

(ANTIMEDIA) — Last month, Anti-Media reported on the discovery of a giant interstellar asteroid passing through our solar system. The asteroid, named ‘Oumuamua, was the first object from another star system to be detected by the human race and stunned scientists with its shape — it is ten times longer than it is wide — and its color, a dark red hue caused by millions of years of exposure to radiation. Now scientists say the object is so peculiar that they are going to study it for signs of advanced extraterrestrial life.

The Breakthrough Listen initiative will spend $100 million to test ‘Oumuamua for radio signals. Scientists say that though it is highly unlikely, the unusual characteristics of the asteroid fit the bill of a giant interstellar probe or spaceship. Astronomers will use the Robert C. Byrd Green Bank Telescope in West Virginia to scan four radio bands for ten hours.

Igniting the wonder of many in the field, Harvard’s astronomy department chair and an adviser to Breakthrough Listen, Avi Loeb, remarked:

“The more I study this object, the more unusual it appears, making me wonder whether it might be an artificially made probe which was sent by an alien civilization.”

The Breakthrough group says the shape of the asteroid is “the most likely architecture for an interstellar spacecraft since this would minimize friction and damage from interstellar gas and dust.” However, they believe a natural origin is more probable.

Loeb cautions that we should not get our hopes too elevated.

“Most likely it is of natural origin, but because it is so peculiar, we would like to check if it has any sign of artificial origin, such as radio emissions,” Loeb says. “If we do detect a signal that appears artificial in origin, we’ll know immediately.”

The effort could allow us to learn more about the asteroid, which could, in turn, allow us to learn more about other star systems. While little is known about its origins, we do know that it is possible ‘Oumuamua came from very far away in the galaxy.

NASA noted:

“Preliminary orbital calculations suggest that the object came from the approximate direction of the bright star Vega, in the northern constellation of Lyra. However, it took so long for the interstellar object to make the journey ― even at the speed of about 59,000 miles per hour (26.4 kilometers per second) ― that Vega was not near that position when the asteroid was there about 300,000 years ago.”

Additional observations allowed scientists to determine that the asteroid is rocky, metal-rich, and contains traces of organic molecules – tholins irradiated by UV radiation. ‘Oumuamua also has a very unusual orbit that will soon eject it from our solar system.

Another group has proposed that we actually intercept the asteroid in order to study it closeup. Project Lycra is a moonshot, so to speak, as the logistics of traveling the incredible speeds and distances necessary to catch up with the asteroid would be unlike anything humans have ever attempted. However, the Project Lycra team contends this may be a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. And technologically, they say, it is possible:

“[A] mission to the object will stretch the boundary of what is technologically possible today. A mission using conventional chemical propulsion system would be feasible using a Jupiter flyby to gravity- assist into a close encounter with the Sun. Given the right materials, solar sail technology or laser sails could be used… Future work within Project Lyra will focus on analyzing the different mission concepts and technology options in more detail and to down select 2 – 3 promising concepts for further development.”

Meanwhile, the desires of scientists who want to probe the asteroid for signs of extraterrestrial radio signals are not as sensational as they may sound. The idea of traveling inside an asteroid is a familiar idea in science fiction, and real scientists have actually proposed it as an ideal form of high-speed space travel. A paper released in 2011 suggested that astronauts could ride an asteroid to Mars. Several American companies and initiatives, including one spearheaded by James Cameron, have outlined plans for mining asteroids for minerals and even turning them into makeshift spaceships.

Surely, advanced alien races, if they exist, could have similar ideas about traveling via planes, trains, and asteroids.

The interstellar visitor has stirred the passions and imaginations of the human race. Even if there is no alien life using the asteroid as a star engine, there is much to be learned from an asteroid hailing from a different star system a long time ago in a galaxy far away (or maybe even our own galaxy).

BPEarthWatch: Something massive just entered Earth’s atmosphere last night and it’s not a meteor

An outfit that monitors incoming ionization trails into Earth’s atmosphere warns something massive slowly entered Earth’s atmosphere last night

(INTELLIHUB) — A massive object entered Earth’s atmosphere on the night of Dec. 2 and it was not a meteor, says the “BPEarthWatch” YouTube channel.

BPEarthWatch is known for monitoring incoming meteor radar data in real-time and generally does pretty good at delivering the facts.

When meteors or objects hit our upper atmosphere they are picked up as an ionization trail which then can be converted to tangible data.

BPEarthWatch maintains that last night’s signal did not contain what is known as “Sporadic E,” a false signal which can only found during the summer months.

“What you saw earlier was very different. Something was coming in and it was very large and took a long time to come in,” the channel’s operator explained. “Something was not normal. I’m not sure what it was. […] There are no meteors that are that large that would come into the Earth with a signal that would last that long.”

Some speculate the radar echo may have been a “rocket launch” or a “UFO.”

Here is the actual data which came in on Saturday night:

Asteroid Will Skim By Earth Days Before Christmas: It Is ‘Potentially Hazardous’

asteroid

An asteroid called 3200 Phaethon will skim past the Earth just days before many will celebrate with Christmas festivities. The three-mile-wide asteroid is expected to miss the Earth, but it’s still labeled as “potentially hazardous,” and for good reasons.

With a diameter of about 3 miles, the asteroid named 3200 Phaethon (after the Greek demi-god who, according to legend, nearly set the Earth on fire) is classified as “potentially hazardous” by the Minor Planet Center. The asteroid will pass within 6.5 million miles of the Earth, which is relatively close in space terms, but still around 27 times the distance of the moon. Much closer flybys have occurred in the very recent past.

Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory are planning to use the opportunity to obtain a detailed 3D model of the asteroid, which has a particularly irregular shape. First detected in December 2007, 3200 Phaethon is widely thought to be the parent body for the Geminid meteor shower, which is due to peak this year on the night of December 13. This would make the Geminids one of only two major meteor showers not originating from a comet; the other being the Quadrantids in January.

phaethon-orbit

The main difference between asteroids and comets is their composition. Asteroids are made up of metals and rocky material, while comets are made up of ice, dust and rocky material. Comets which approach the Sun lose material with each orbit because some of their ice melts and vaporizes to form a tail.

But the real question is will anyone be able to see the asteroid’s close approach to our planet. According to NASA, 3200 Phaethon will be visible in small telescopes for experienced observers in areas with dark skies. It is potentially detectable for three weeks but will be at its brightest between December 11 and 21. If you don’t see the asteroid itself, be sure to look out for the Geminid meteor shower, which is set to provide a spectacular show over the course of 10 nights in December, with as many as 100 shooting stars every hour.

New Apocalypse Warning: ‘The Earth Will Crack’ On Halloween Day This Year

apocalypse-death

A YouTube channel is claiming to have evidence that points to Halloween day as the “end of time.” Those who have claimed October 31 will be the apocalypse have also said that on that day, “the Earth will crack.”

The real apocalypse will begin on October 31 when the “Earth will crack” according to conspiracy theorists, says The Express UK.  This year’s Halloween could be the scariest to date, and perhaps the last if doomsayers are to be believed. The YouTube channel End Time Prophecies claims that Jesus will return on October 31 and bring with him the end of the world, according to The Express UK.

A more in-depth search of the YouTube channel End Time Prophecies netted only two videos, neither of which declare in the titles that Halloween will be the date of the apocalypse. The YouTube channel Armageddon News has several doomsday videos citing Biblical lore and symbolism, but again, that Halloween date could not be verified. The only source online, The Express UK, did not include any links to the video they sourced either, making the verification of information presented impossible to locate.

Nonetheless, many thought that the start of the “end of times” was symbolized by the galactic alignment which occurred September 23, and was the source of many doomsday theories; including one saying that Nibiru would destroy the earth that day.  Christian researcher David Meade claims to have analyzed biblical texts and astronomical signs and concluded that Planet X, as Nibiru is also known, would arrive and herald the end of days.

He referred to Revelation 12:1, which says: “A great sign appeared in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun with the moon under her feet and a crown of 12 stars on her head. And being with child, she cried out in her travail and was in anguish of delivery.”

“On the day which Jesus returns there will be a polar reversal,” the video claims. “Isaiah 24:20 says the earth will crack and shatter and split open. The Earth will stagger like a drunk, sway like a hut in a storm. The Earth is weighed down by its sins. It will collapse and never rise again,” the video stated according to The Express UK.

There has been a spate of end of the world predictions lately seemingly sparked by a series of natural tragedies such as hurricanes hitting America over the summer and the solar eclipse.  The recently passed Friday the 13th was also said by some to bring the apocalypse’s beginning as the asteroid known as 2012 TC4 flew past Earth. TC4 passed between the moon and the Earth at a breathtakingly close distance of just 4,200 miles from our planet.

A blog website ran by poet Mel Brake says the passing of the asteroid was a sign in the sky that ‘Mother Mary’ is to return and the apocalypse will begin. The website also stated accurately that October will mark the 100 year anniversary of “Our Lady of Fatima,” a phenomenon which took place in Portugal. In 1917, between May and October, three young Portuguese shepherds were said to have been visited by Mother Mary who provided them with visions of the apocalypse.  Others also witnessed “signs” that this occurrence was miraculous.

It looks like there may be some people who may believe the end of the world will occur on Halloween this year, although that cannot be confirmed based on the information so far presented.

Theorists Say Asteroid TC4 2012’s Skimming of Earth Signals The Apocalypse

asteroid

On Thursday, Asteroid 2012 TC4 will come close to earth, at 1/8 the distance of the moon. Although it’s close, scientists assure us that it won’t actually strike the Earth, but some theorists disagree.

Recently updated numbers show that the asteroid will come closer than previously thought. It will  from our planet. Asteroids are small, rocky objects that orbit the Sun. The first known asteroid was Ceres, discovered by Giuseppe Piazzi in 1801. There are currently over 600,000 known asteroids in our solar system. Most asteroids are found orbiting in the Asteroid Belt, a series of rings located between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. And some Christian conspiracy theorists now believe that the asteroid’s arrival will mark the beginning of the end of the world.

A blog ran by poet Mel Brake says the passing of the asteroid will be a sign in the sky that Mother Mary is to return and the end of the world will begin. The website says that October will mark the 100 year anniversary of “Our Lady of Fatima,” signaling the apocalypse. “Our Lady Of Fatima” was a phenomenon in 1917, which began May and culminated in October with the “dancing of the sun.” It is said that three young Portuguese shepherds were visited by Mother May who provided them with visions of the apocalypse and on October 13, 1917, Our Lady of Fatima fulfilled her promise to the three children that she would give a sign for all the world to see. On that rainy day, the 50,000 – 70,00 people witnessed for about 10 -15 minutes what is called “The Dance of the Sun”. After “dancing” in the sky for many moments, the sun seemingly left its orbit and hurtled toward earth before returning to the heavens. And now a century later, some believe this asteroid is a sign in the sky that will spark the apocalypse.

Brake’s blog points to Revelation 12:1 says that a “sign” will appear in the heavens before a woman comes and provides great anguish to those on Earth – the woman being Mother Mary in this instance.

The Bible passage 12:1-2 reads: “And a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and on her head a crown of 12 stars. She was pregnant and was crying out in birth pains and the agony of giving birth.”

And Brake’s blog post read: “The message is clear have we a choice between light or dark and since 100 years of Mother Mary’s appearance to the three little children of Fatima. –Express UK

Brake doesn’t indicate that the asteroid will actually impact the Earth, but hints that its arrival is the event that will signal in the apocalypse. NASA also says that there is no danger of the world ending and will use the flyby – less than 5,400 miles between London and Los Angeles – to gather valuable data on the asteroid which was discovered in 2012.

Michael Kelley, a program scientists and NASA headquarters lead for the 2012 TC4 observation campaign, said, “Scientists have always appreciated knowing when an asteroid will make a close approach to and safely pass the Earth. This is because they can make preparations to collect data to characterize and learn as much as possible about it. [And] this time we are adding in another layer of effort, using this asteroid flyby to test the worldwide asteroid detection and tracking network, assessing our capability to work together in response to finding a potential real asteroid threat.”

This new revelation from Brake comes just after David Meade, a mathematician, revealed to that Planet X, also known as Niburu, .

A House-Sized Asteroid Will ‘Skim By’ Earth In A Matter Of Days

asteroid

On October 12, an asteroid the size of a house will barely miss earth as it skims by at a distance of 27,000 miles. This will be a close call considering the size of the otherworldly body.

Asteroid 2012 TC4 will skim by earth a little too close for comfort. The latest observations, made on July 27, 31, and then again on August 5, revealed 2012 TC4 will pass within one-eighth of the moon’s distance from the planet.

Scientists believe it will shave past Earth at a distance of around 44,000 kilometers. That’s only 27,300 miles. With this close approach, NASA will have the opportunity to test its network of observatories for its planetary defense system, in case an asteroid did actually hit Earth.

“Scientists have always appreciated knowing when an asteroid will make a close approach to and safely pass the Earth because they can make preparations to collect data to characterize and learn as much as possible about it,” said Dr. Michael Kelley, a scientist working on the NASA TC4 observation campaign. “This time we are adding in another layer of effort, using this asteroid flyby to test the worldwide asteroid detection and tracking network, assessing our capability to work together in response to finding a potential real asteroid threat.”

Scientists tracked the house-sized asteroid using the European Southern Observatory’s Very Large Telescope in Chile. While they had expected the TC4 asteroid to pass by earth, they weren’t certain how close it would actually come.

“It’s damn close,” said Rolf Densing, who heads the European Space Operations Centre in Darmstadt, Germany. But that’s also far enough away that it will miss all of the geostationary satellites currently in orbit. “The farthest satellites are 36,000 kilometers (22,400 miles) out, so this is indeed a close miss,” he told AFP. “As close as it is right now, I think this prediction is pretty safe, meaning that it will miss.”

The asteroid was still very far from Earth, about 35 million miles at the time of the latest observations. It is traveling at speeds of around 30,000 mph (14 km per second).

Largest asteroid in a century to whiz by Sept. 1

The largest asteroid in more than a century will whiz safely past Earth on September 1 at a safe but unusually close distance of about 4.4 million miles (7 million kilometers), NASA said.

The asteroid was discovered in 1981, and is named Florence after the famed 19th century founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.

“Florence is the largest asteroid to pass this close to our planet since the first near-Earth asteroid was discovered over a century ago,” said a US space agency statement.

It is one of the biggest asteroids in the Earth’s vicinity, and measures about 2.7 miles (4.4 kilometers) wide—or about the size of 30 Egyptian pyramids stuck together.

NASA 2024 test will be first step toward Earth asteroid defense system

(INTELLIHUB) — In the year 2024, NASA plans to strike an asteroid with a mane-made object that will be traveling nine times faster than a speeding bullet in order to better understand how the trajectory of incoming asteroids can deviate.

The experiment will be the first of its kind, as the Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) will be targeting to asteroids that orbit each other.

The data will help the agency better assess how to save mankind in the event of an impending future strike on the onto the planet.

Will asteroid 2012 TC4 hit Earth in October 2017?

As of Apr. 12, 2015, there are 1572 potentially hazardous asteroids (PHA) detected

asteroidKevin Gill/Flickr

On Oct. 12, 2017, the asteroid 2012 TC4 is slated to whizz by Earth dangerously close. The exact distance of its closest approach is uncertain, as well as its size. Based on observations in October 2012 when the space rock missed our planet, astronomers estimate that its size could vary from 12 to 40 meters. The meteor that exploded over the Russian city of Chelyabinsk in February 2013, injuring 1,500 people and damaging over 7,000 buildings, was about 20 meters wide. Thus, the impact of 2012 TC4 could be even more devastating. “It is something to keep an eye on,” Judit Györgyey-Ries, an astronomer at the University of Texas’ McDonald Observatory told astrowatch.net. “We could see an airburst maybe broken windows, depending on where it hits.”

The house-sized asteroid was discovered on Oct. 4, 2012, by the Pan-STARRS observatory in Hawaii. A week later, it gave Earth a close shave when it passed the planet at the distance of 0.247 LD (lunar distance), or 94,800 km. 2012 TC4 is an elongated and rapidly rotating object and has been known to make many close approaches to Earth in the past. Now, the scientists try to determine the exact path of 2017 fly-by and the probability of a possible impact.

“It has a 0.00055% cumulative chance that it will hit,” Györgyey-Ries said. “The fact that the MOID [minimum orbit intersection distance] is only 0.079 LD flags it as a possible impactor. However, it is just the smallest possible distance between the orbits.”

The Threat Of An Asteroid Striking Earth Is Higher Than Originally Thought

asteroid

New research from a team of Czech scientists, which discovered new asteroids traveling around our planet, suggests that the risk of earth being hit by one of those extraterrestrial rocks is increasing. The likelihood of an asteroid striking Earth increased after the team studied 144 large meteors from the Taurids, a meteor stream – the very stream which appears in our skies twice a year. Most of these asteroids are small and pose no real threat. But some are alarming in size.

The team of Czech scientists discovered a new branch of the Taurid stream phenomenon containing at least two asteroids measuring a whopping 200-300 meters (220-330 yards) in diameter. This branch likely includes even larger undiscovered asteroids, according to a statement from the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic.

The Taurid meteoroid stream produces at least four meteor showers over Earth. Two of those streams are active from the end of September until the beginning of December, and two from the end of May to the middle of July. Earth encounters the newly discovered branch every few years for about three weeks. Scientists say that during this time, the chance of an impact with a sizeable asteroid (measuring up to tens of meters) is significantly greater. The new digital autonomous observatories of the European Fireball Network spotted the fireballs over Czech Republic (at 13 stations), Austria (1 station) and Slovakia (1 station).

The meteors analyzed by the Czech astronomy team were from a 2015 study when the stream’s activity was enhanced. Details of the study are published in Astronomy & Astrophysics, and the researchers say further research is vital to gain a better understanding “of this real source of potentially hazardous objects.” The scientists also warn that the meteors could cause significant regional or even continental damage should they actually impact our earth. The astronomers are urging a concentrated search for more Taurid asteroids, to see if any potentially threatening ones exist.

Although no threatening objects have yet been discovered, the Czech team doesn’t want to take any chances. The prospect of continental damage and regional catastrophe coming from space is alarming and more observations will be needed before drawing any more conclusions based on the Czech team’s research, as there could be many other factors which impact this data.

For example, the debris stream from Comet Encke is influenced in part by the gravity of Jupiter, a massive gas giant planet that is known to influence the orbits of comets and asteroids in that region of the solar system. As such, there are instances in which Jupiter’s gravity can redirect the debris so that more particles hit the Earth. During one of these “enhanced” Taurid meteor showers in 2015 caused by Encke’s redirection, the astronomers from the Czech Academy of Sciences analyzed the 144 Taurid fireballs (meteors that produce a large flash when they hit the atmosphere.)

NASA is currently working to anticipate the possible collision of a massive cosmic particle with Earth and assess any potential impact risks. It operates a collision monitoring system called Sentry that routinely scans for asteroids and determines the likelihood of impact over the next 100 years. It also freely catalogs these space rocks at the JPL Small-Body Database Browser.

A few years ago, NASA created a Planetary Defense Coordination Office to bring together the observations of all US networks looking for near-Earth asteroids. They also want to help come up with plans in the unlikely chance that the Earth is under threat from an asteroid strike.

The increase in a possibility of a strike is alarming, but keep in mind, it’s only a possible threat.

“Facing Extinction Level Event”: White House Crafts Emergency Strategy for Catastrophic Meteor

iran-meteor-strike

This article was written by Michael Snyder and originally published at the End of the American Dream blog.

Editor’s Comment: We should take notice at the government preparations for disaster, and the possibility of a cataclysmic collision with damaging objects in space. At the same time, we should take notice at what they are preparing for with all the billions of dollars thrown at defense and survival, it comes in secretive infrastructure for a reclusive sect of power, and in top-down plans to contain the unrest.

Preparations for the individual to survive, and be resilient are not being put in place in this government, though many other governments have made such an investment into the lives of individuals. Time and again, these people are told to brace for the worst, with little to show for it. A few have made their preps, and it may yet prove useful in this or some other disaster.

Why Has The White House Suddenly Released A Strategy For Dealing With The Threat Of A Catastrophic Meteor Impact?

by Michael Snyder

Does the White House know something that the rest of us do not? As the Obama administration draws to a close, the White House has suddenly released a major document that details a multi-pronged strategy for dealing with the threat of a catastrophic meteor impact. Most of us remember movies such as “Deep Impact” and “Armageddon” that attempted to depict what such a crisis would look like, but up until fairly recently the U.S. government has never seemed to take this kind of threat very seriously.

So what has changed?

Of all the things that the White House could be focusing on, why this?

And this new report is just the latest in a series of measures that the government has taken over the past couple of years to help prepare us for incoming meteors and asteroids. The following is an excerpt from a recent Gizmodo article…

Concern over an apocalyptic asteroid strike has risen all the way to the top: The White House released a document this week detailing a strategy for National Near Earth Object (NEO) preparedness. Morgan Freeman would no doubt be proud, although honestly, the nation might have more pressing apocalypse concerns closer to home.

Last year brought renewed interest in handling humanity-ending impact events. After a 2014 audit showed that NASA had a cruddy NEO preparedness system, the agency founded a new Planetary Defense Coordination Office (PDCO) last year to detect all of our potentially nasty NEO neighbors. The office quickly escalated talk to action, running preparedness drills with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), launching spacecraft to gather asteroid information, and even drawing up plans to nuke the bad boys out of the sky if things get dicey.

NASA continues to assure us that no threat is imminent, so why spend so much time, energy and resources on a non-existent crisis?

If you want to read the 25 page document that the White House just released, it is entitled “National Near-Earth Object Preparedness Strategy” and you can read it for yourself right here.

The document was put together by the Interagency Working Group for Detecting and Mitigating the Impact of Earth-bound Near-Earth Objects, and it outlined seven key objectives that the authors believe are important…

1. Enhance NEO detection, tracking, and characterization capabilities
2. Develop methods for NEO deflection and disruption
3. Improve modelling, predictions, and information integration
4. Develop emergency procedures for NEO impact scenarios
5. Establish NEO impact response and recovery procedures
6. Leverage and support international cooperation
7. Establish coordination and communications protocols and thresholds for taking action

And without a doubt, we definitely do need to enhance our detection abilities. Just the other day, a very large asteroid barely missed us, and we had only discovered it two days earlier…

Early Monday morning, while the US East Coast was pouring coffee, dropping kids off at school, and cursing in traffic, a space rock as big as a 10-story building slipped past Earth.

The asteroid, dubbed 2017 AG13, was discovered only Saturday by the University of Arizona’s Catalina Sky Survey, according to an email from Slooh, a company that broadcasts live views of space.

We were very fortunate this time, but the truth is that our planet crosses paths with other giant space rocks on a very regular basis.

In fact, a near-Earth object that is being called “a cross between an asteroid and a comet” will come fairly close to our planet in February…

The latter “object”, dubbed the 2016 WF9, was detected by NASA in late November and has left scientist’s scratching their heads.

They have described the celestial rock as a cross between an asteroid and a comet.

It’s in the middle of its of.9 year orbit between Jupiter and Earth and will approach us on February 25, flying by at a distance of 32million miles from the planet.

Currently, approximately 10,000 major near-Earth objects have been identified by scientists, and about 10 percent of them are one kilometer or larger in size.

If one of those monsters directly hit our planet, we truly would be facing an extinction-level event.

For example, just imagine the kind of devastation that would happen if a large asteroid or meteor hit the Atlantic Ocean. Tsunami waves hundreds of feet tall would be sent racing toward the coasts of North America, South America, Africa and western Europe, and millions upon millions of people would die.

This is something that scientists have actually studied. According to a study conducted at the University of California at Santa Cruz, if a giant meteor did strike the Atlantic Ocean we could potentially see tsunami waves as high as 400 feet slam into the east coast of the United States…

If an asteroid crashes into the Earth, it is likely to splash down somewhere in the oceans that cover 70 percent of the planet’s surface. Huge tsunami waves, spreading out from the impact site like the ripples from a rock tossed into a pond, would inundate heavily populated coastal areas. A computer simulation of an asteroid impact tsunami developed by scientists at the University of California, Santa Cruz, shows waves as high as 400 feet sweeping onto the Atlantic Coast of the United States.

Depending on where the meteor strikes, we could potentially see New York City, Boston, Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington D.C., Charleston, Miami and countless other major coastal cities all wiped out on a single day.

Right now, 39 percent of all Americans live in a county that directly borders a shoreline.

To say that we are vulnerable to a massive tsunami caused by a meteor impact would be a massive understatement.

And scientists assure us that it will happen someday. In fact, I don’t know if you have noticed, but our area of space seems to have a lot more “traffic” in it these days. NASA tells us that there is nothing to be worried about, but others are concerned that something may be coming toward us or that we are moving toward something.

Ultimately, we need to remember that we are essentially a speck of dust hurtling through a massive galaxy at incredibly high speeds, and our galaxy is only an extremely small part of an absolutely enormous and ever changing universe.

But instead of turning to the author and creator of this incredible universe for blessing and protection, we continue to defy Him and His ways. In the end, that is going to turn out to be a tragic mistake.
