Vegas Gunman’s Brother Arrested For Child Porn; Laptop Hard Drive Missing

This report was originally published by Tyler Durden at Zero Hedge

The story of Las Vegas shooter Stephen Paddock’s family just keeps getting weirder.

The Los Angeles Times is reporting one of Paddock’s younger brothers, Bruce Paddock, has been detained in North Hollywood on suspicion of crimes related to child pornography. Paddock, 58, was taken into custody Wednesday morning.

The LAPD said a man was detained in the 5300 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard on suspicion of crimes related to child pornography. However the LAPD would not reveal the name of the man. Sandra Breault, a spokeswoman for the FBI in Las Vegas, declined to say whether Bruce Paddock’s detention was connected to the agency’s investigation into the concert shooting.

The Paddocks’ father, Benjamin Paddock, was famously revealed to be a former bank robber and con man who once made the FBI’s “most wanted” list. Paddock’s family has mostly avoided the media, though his youngest brother, Eric, spoke out when reporters descended on his Florida home in the days following the shooting. Eric Paddock said he wasn’t close with most of his brothers, but had once been involved in a lucrative real estate venture with Stephen. He said he was shocked to learn that his brother had been the shooter, and said his brother gave no indication that he might carry out such an atrocious act.

The 64-year-old Stephen Paddock opened fire on a Las Vegas crowd of 20,000 people attending a country music festival on Oct. 1. Paddock killed 60 people, including himself, in the meticulously planned attack.

Meanwhile, police have repeatedly changed their timeline for the shooting, and MGM Resorts, the owner of the Mandalay Bay hotel, has taken efforts to stop more information about the timeline of events from leaking to the public, for fear it could face lawsuits from Paddock’s victims.

Separately, as the search for a motive behind the deadliest mass shooting in US history appears to have hit a wall – and while the multiple changes in the timeline of events have raised questions about the effectiveness of the initial response – ABC News reports that the laptop computer recovered from Paddock’s room was missing its hard drive, depriving investigators of a potential key source of information into Paddock’s frame of mind at the time of the shooting.

Paddock is believed to have removed the hard drive before fatally shooting himself, and the missing device has not yet been recovered.

Investigators digging into Paddock’s background also learned he purchased software designed to erase files from a hard drive, but without the hard drive to examine, it is impossible to know if he ever used the software. Searches of Paddock’s car and homes turned up an arsenal of guns and explosive materials – but data gleaned from his computers has provided precious little for investigators to go on.

He is not the first mass shooter to destroy or hide digital clues, ABC noted.

  • In 2007, Virginia Tech shooter Cho Seung Hui removed the hard drive of his computer and disposed of his cell phone shortly before the massacre. They were never recovered.

  • The 2008 Northern Illinois shooter, Steven Kazmierczak, removed the SIM card from his phone and the hard drive from his laptop, and neither was recovered.

  • In 2012, Sandy Hook shooter Adam Lanza removed the hard drive from his computer and smashed it with a hammer or screwdriver.

Paddock spent months assembling the arsenal in a way that didn’t attract the attention of authorities. Authorities are examining every aspect of Paddock’s life — from his family, friends and associates to his travel patterns, health and finances. A sudden deterioration in his finances has been ruled out as a motive, as one source told ABC that Paddock had settled debts he had with casinos shortly before the attack.

Other mass murders have left behind clues as to their motives – who can forget the unabomber’s manifesto? Paddock, however, left behind no such writings or evidence.

Vatican Diplomat in D.C. Allowed to Flee to Church to Avoid Prosecution for Child Porn

diplomat

The Vatican embassy in Washington D.C. has four diplomatic staff, and it is now admitting that at least one diplomat has been found with child pornography—but the church will not allow him to be prosecuted.

As a diplomat, the unidentified priest has immunity from prosecution for most crimes under the Vienna Convention. The State Department requested that the Vatican waive immunity so that the individual could be properly prosecuted on Aug. 21. Instead of allowing the priest to be charged, tried and potentially convicted of possession of child pornography, the Vatican recalled him. In other words, the Vatican protected the priest from prosecution.

According to the Associated Press, “The Vatican declined to identify the priest, but said he was currently in Vatican City and that Vatican prosecutors had launched their own probe.” Going further, the AP wrote, “The State Department said it had asked the Vatican to lift the official’s diplomatic immunity on Aug. 21. It said that request was denied three days later. For the State Department to make such a request, its lawyers would have needed to be convinced that there was reasonable cause for criminal prosecution.”

Possession of child pornography was made illegal in 2013 under the Vatican’s criminal code. If found guilty, the Vatican can sentence the high-ranking priest to up to two years and a fine of 10,000 Euros, which is quite a contrast from the sentence of 15 to 30 years in prison as well as steep fines in the U.S.

The decision to recall the priest has several American Catholic leaders up in arms, protesting the Vatican’s decision to disallow him from being prosecuted. The head of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo of Galveston-Houston, was cited by the Globe and Mail as describing the allegations as “serious.” He said the Vatican should be “forthcoming with more details.”

“We reaffirm that when such allegations occur, an immediate, thorough and transparent investigation should begin in co-operation with law enforcement and immediate steps be taken to protect children,” DiNardo said in a statement.

Pope Francis has been less than truthful with his promise of zero tolerance for child rapists, predators, pedophiles and sex offenders. In February, as TFTP reported, he quietly reduced sanctions against some Catholic priests who were seeking mercy from the church.

Then in May, the pope acknowledged there was a backlog of 2,000 cases of alleged abuse that were not being addressed as quickly as some advocates for children would like to see occur in a more expeditious manner. The acknowledgement comes just a few months after Marie Collins, an Irish pedophile-priest-sex-abuse-survivor, resigned from Pope Francis’ sex abuse advisory commission. She resigned amid “unacceptable” levels of resistance from the Vatican in helping to prosecute pedophile priests.

The practice of pedophilia rises all the way up to the highest levels of the Catholic church with the highest profile arrest of the pope’s own chief financial advisor being the latest brought up on charges. Cardinal George Pell was brought up on charges in late June 2017 for “historical sexual assault offenses” dating back to 1961 when Pell was a trainee priest.

However, if you believe Pope Francis, only 2 percent of Catholic priests are pedophiles. With as much obstruction, denial, disinterest, exoneration, and mercy being shown to pedophile priests by the Vatican, it is easy for anyone to see how he might arrive at such a low number. It is likely only officially 2 percent because the church still refuses to allow full transparency to take place when it comes to allegations of child sex abuse involving their priests.

Facebook Refuses To Remove Child Porn One Month After Separate Incident Involving BBC And Police

Social media giant Facebook - whose "Fake News" thought police include the degenerates over at Snopes, and which has banned conservative accounts such as iBankCoin from accessing the platform - is apparently really cool with child pornography and beheading videos.

According to UK publication The Times, Facebook could face criminal prosecution for refusing to remove dozens of images and videos depicting child porn, pedophilic cartoons, child rape, an ISIS beheading video, and propaganda posters glorifying terrorist attacks in London and Egypt.

Instead of removing the content, moderators said that the posts did not breach the site’s “community standards”.

Facebook’s algorithms even promoted some of the offensive material by suggesting that users join groups and profiles that had published it.

A leading QC who reviewed the content said that, in his view, much of it was illegal under British law. Facebook was at risk of committing a criminal offence because it had been made aware of the illegal images and had failed to take them down, he said.

This isn"t the first time Facebook has defended pedos...

In March, the BBC - which busted a Facebook pedo ring in 2016 (resulting in a 4 year prison sentence) - reported dozens of examples of child pornography. Facebook"s response? They removed around 20% of the images, then reported the BBC journalists to the police - and canceled plans for an interview!

Using Facebook’s own moderation tools, the BBC’s recent investigation attempted to report 100 images that appeared to violate Facebook’s terms of service for sexualized images of children. The BBC found that just 18 of the 100 were eventually taken down on Facebook. -Gizmodo

What in the hell is going on?

In November, we reported how Twitter banned a user for exposing thousands of child porn accounts, while allowing the offensive content to remain on the platform.

Meanwhile the New York Times and Salon have tried to "normalize" pedophilia by running an article in defense of pedos. Salon went on to scrub the article from their website the day before a hit-piece on Milo Yiannopoulos, however the NYT continues to run it. I wonder why?

So we have social media giants Twitter and Facebook allowing pedophilic and pro-terrorism content on their platforms, while MSM outlets such as the New York Times and Salon defend it. And it"s not just those outlets... Think about it - how much attention has the record number of human trafficking busts since the inauguration received from the MSM? Meanwhile, conservative voices with divergent opinions are being throttled, banned, "un-followed," or otherwise limited from reaching audiences.

Something is very wrong with this picture...
