Not Just for Humans — Watch CBD Oil Stop This Dog’s Seizure in Under a Minute

dog

Toledo, OH – Over the past couple of years, we have seen more and more videos showing the miraculous ability of cannabis to stop seizures in their tracks. From oil extracts to nasal sprays, the proof is now undeniable that cannabis is medicinal and offers a real solution for those suffering from debilitating seizures.

And it’s not just for humans. Man’s best friend can have seizures, too, and they can also be stopped with cannabis extracts.

A recent video uploaded to Facebook shows CBD oil stop a dog’s seizure in under a minute. Kevin Spitler of the Toledo Hemp Center in Toledo, Ohio posted the video, which has more than 440,000 views at the time of this writing.

As the video begins, the dog is in the midst of what appears to be a seizure, head shaking uncontrollably. The owner shows the bottle of CBD oil to the camera just before administering to his dog.

Advertisment

“I just gave him two shots of it, in his mouth,” says the owner.

The dog is licking his chops, and in about 30 seconds the effects are clear. His head stops shaking and he appears content.

“Yeah, you’re good now, ain’t ya?” says the owner happily. And now it’s time for a treat, which the dog can enjoy thanks to cannabis.

To millions of people, pets are part of the family, loved like sons and daughters. Witnessing them suffer from disorders like seizures can be heartbreaking and disruptive to everyday life. For the dog in this video, the cannabis extract cannabidiol (CBD) provides a cure.

The CBD oil was procured from Toledo Hemp Center, which “specializes in hemp based products and promoted a better quality of life.”

CBD can be derived solely from hemp, which is the Cannabis sativa plant with only trace amounts of tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the ingredient that produces a “high.” Industrial hemp production and hemp-based products are now legal in Ohio, along with medical cannabis.

CBD can be derived from any cannabis plant, including those bred for THC content. Both CBD and THC have many medicinal applications, and both can treat seizures. For some people, CBD extracts work, while others need a CBD-THC blend or even pure THC with no CBD.

Research into using cannabis for canine ailments is growing, with veterinarians at Colorado State University spearheading clinical studies on the effectiveness of CBD.

As The Cannabis report notes, the biggest obstacle to moving forward is federal prohibition of cannabis as a Schedule 1 drug with “no accepted medical use.” The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), abandoning all sense of reason, has moved to further restrict “marijuana extracts” including hemp-derived CBD.

Fortunately, states like Ohio are ignoring federal government’s ludicrous prohibition and acknowledging the miraculous healing power of cannabis.

Are Some Cancer Doctors Immorally Pocketing Money from Patients?

More than a handful of doctor have been caught in the act of needlessly giving out or overcharging for cancer drugs to make a quick buck. It seems that some doctors are either intentionally or wrongfully diagnosing sickness, or are immorally pocketing cash from treatment costs.

As the New York Times has pointed out:

“Among cancer doctors, it is called the chemotherapy concession. At a time when overall spending on prescription drugs is soaring, cancer specialists are pocketing hundreds of millions of dollars each year by selling drugs to patients — a practice that almost no other doctors follow.”

Unlike other healthcare professionals, oncologists (cancer doctors) purchase chemotherapy drugs themselves, which are often discounted by drug makers. This can lead to doctors administering drugs at an inflated cost to the patient, since the doctor receives the drugs at a discount. It’s called chemotherapy concession, where “financial incentives exist for some US oncologists in the prescribing of chemotherapy and growth factors for treatment-related anemia.” And many want an end to it.

In fact, the General Accounting Office discovered that doctors, on average, were able to get discounts as high as 86% on some drugs. Critics noted that this kind of activity is contributing to the nation’s high health care bills.

Let’s remember: healthcare should not be treated like a business deal, especially when it’s harming citizens.

”We think it’s a bad system that creates bad incentives that creates bad medicine,” said Robert M. Hayes, president of the Medicare Rights Center, a consumer group, who testified before Congress in 2002 on the issue.

As reported by the New York Times:

“The concession may also lead some doctors to recommend chemotherapy when patients may not benefit. In a 2001 study of cancer patients in Massachusetts, conducted by a team of researchers led by Dr. Ezekiel J. Emanuel of the National Institutes of Health, the authors found that a third of those patients received chemotherapy in the last six months of their lives, even when their cancers were considered unresponsive to chemotherapy. Those findings strongly suggested overuse of chemotherapy at the end of life.

‘We know there is not all appropriate use,’ said Dr. John Gillespie, medical director of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Western New York.”

In a more extreme case of medical fraud – one of the largest health care frauds in American history, in fact – Dr. Farid Fata, who was sentenced to 45 years in prison just last year, admitted in court to [intentionally and wrongfully] diagnosing healthy people with cancer.

Fata was charged with running a $35-million Medicare fraud scheme that involved billing the government for medically unnecessary oncology and hematology treatments. More than 1000 people were affected. When asked about his unscrupulous practice of diagnosing cancer and prescribing chemo drugs, he simply said, “I knew that it was medically unnecessary.”

Again, this is an extreme case of medical fraud, but it still highlights some of the unscrupulous activities performed by some medical professionals.

In the following video, Dr. Peter Glidden briefly speaks on the pocketing of cash by oncologists, as well as the problems with chemotherapy. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the study he referenced to back up his claims. There is, however, a 2004 study that came to similar conclusions claimed by Glidden. The study suggests that the overall contribution of chemotherapy to survival up to 5 years after diagnosis may be about 2%

The study concluded:

“The overall contribution of curative and adjuvant cytotoxic chemotherapy to 5-year survival in adults was estimated to be 2.3% in Australia and 2.1% in the USA.

As the 5-year relative survival rate for cancer in Australia is now over 60%, it is clear that cytotoxic chemotherapy only makes a minor contribution to cancer survival. To justify the continued funding and availability of drugs used in cytotoxic chemotherapy, a rigorous evaluation of the cost-effectiveness and impact on quality of life is urgently required.”

At the very least, collectively acknowledging these issues can help us as a society step away from any questionable nature that may exist within the healthcare industry.

Brave Mom Risks Jail to Treat Son’s Bone Disease with Cannabis – It Worked!

cannabis

Bridgett Liquori lives in the Bible-belt state of Georgia, where the American flag is held as high as sweet tea and apple pie. For many years, Georgia has fought the failed war on drugs with reckless abandon, jailing thousands for marijuana crimes. But now, stories like Liquori’s are emerging, telling a different version of how marijuana can and should be used…as medicine.

Liquori’s son, unfortunately, was born with several incurable and painful conditions, which will stay with him throughout his life. Jackson was born with cerebral palsy, and a bone disease called chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO), an autoinflammatory bone disease. To say that CRMO is painful is an understatement.

Liquori wrote, prior to using cannabis, Jackson’s days were filled with, “pain, stiffness, inability to walk or painful walking, and a lack of energy.” But Liquori’s ability to manage Jackson’s pain changed one day when she set out, as any concerned mother would, to find some relief for her son. She wrote, “I never thought when I set out to find some relief for Jackson’s CP [chronic pain] that we would find a real safe treatment for his CRMO. One that would lead to him going off all prescriptions and thriving so well.”

She described that on June 5th, 2016, Jackson had his “last bad day.” That’s when she started giving her son cannabis oil. She detailed the preparation saying, “He is currently taking 39-45 drops of Copper Mountain Elixirs 12:1 AC/DC coconut oil tincture.”

The elixir produced the desired results which she says has now been documented by his physicians. In an update from October, she declared the effects of the cannabis oil to be nothing short of miraculous. “Today is October 19th 2016. As of today it has been 136 days pain free and moving!”

It didn’t take much either. She said he only needs 2 milliliters, three times a day, just a wee bit over a teaspoonful. Here’s a video she produced documenting his struggles both before and after giving Jackson cannabis oil.

For Liquori, the changes are noticeable. “As you can see from these videos Jackson has so much energy. He’s free from pain, stiff muscles, and he is thriving. Jackson has gone from being nearly non-mobile, miserable and in pain, to running down the streets laughing and enjoying his life every day,” she writes.

Liquori is now fighting a battle to make access to cannabis oil available to all residents of Georgia. She’s been very politically active since her son’s story became national headlines last year.

It’s time we stop depriving parents of a natural ability to help ease their children’s pain, by providing an option to pharmaceuticals which often come with a myriad of unpleasant side effects and arguably don’t work as well as cannabis.

Liquori recently spoke out at the Georgia State Capitol, encouraging legislatures to expand the list of qualifying conditions to include intractable pain, autism, and other illnesses.

TFTP spoke with Liquori to bring you first-hand testimony of the miraculous benefits of how one courageous mother is standing up to the establishment to bring her son the much-needed relief he so desperately needs and deserves.

Liquori says she’s still very fearful of the Department of Social Services (DSS) and their ability to remove Jackson from her home. She wrote, “I’ve had many issues with DSS in my past but I know for certain that if they were to step in and do something we would have a fighting chance.”

She says she’s ready if they want to pick a fight with her over her decision to give her son life improving natural medicine, even if it is currently legal. “I have thoroughly documented everything with my children. I have informed and gotten the support of my children’s doctors and have testified to the state House of Representatives, telling them I am illegally doing this and I plan to do so forever if needed.”

She said her arrest would catapult the issue forward. “I wish they would come and arrest me because that is what is needed to get these ridiculous laws changed. If more people spoke up and fought with us we would win.”

Liquori is planning a major demonstration for the next session at the Georgia State Capital. “I am organizing a legalization and safe access march for next session. We will come in numbers. We will not be quiet on this issue any longer. We are organizing a grassroots movement here in GA.”

To achieve those ends, the mother, who’s been an eye witness to the healing, restorative power of cannabis, plans on carpooling if that’s what it takes. Her goal is, “to bring people from the Southern and Western part of the state straight to the state capital and we plan to let them know we are not going away.”

First of Its Kind Study Finds Cannabis May Be a “Miracle” Treatment for Autistic Kids

autism

Autism could now be added to the lengthy and perpetually-expanding list of afflictions and symptoms treatable with the one product of nature shamefully prohibited by the federal government — the “miracle” palliative, cannabis.

One in every 68 children in the United States is now affected by autism, and the number of kids coping with the developmental disorder has been increasing at an explosive rate in recent years. With onset most common during infancy and early childhood, autism can impact social and communication skills and may cause repetitive or compulsive behaviors, among other manifestations.

Now, fresh evidence again frowns upon U.S. federal prohibition of cannabis — listed as a Schedule I dangerous substance of no potential medical use, alongside heroin — which could be depriving ailing children the chance for treatment, and hope for a better-adjusted future.

In contrast to its staunch U.S. ally, Israel has approached the cannabis plant as the medicinal healer it has more than proven to be — medical marijuana was first approved in Israel decades ago, in 1992, making it one of the first in the world to do so.

As USA Today notes, in a recent article titled, Marijuana may be a miracle treatment for children with autism, Israel and just two other countries — Canada and the Netherlands — have government-sponsored medical marijuana programs available to citizens.

As USA Today reports:

When Noa Shulman came home from school, her mother, Yael, sat her down to eat, then spoon-fed her mashed sweet potatoes — mixed with cannabis oil.

Noa, who has a severe form of autism, started to bite her own arm. “No sweetie,” Yael gently told her 17-year-old daughter. “Here, have another bite of this.”

Noa is part of the first clinical trial in the world to test the benefits of medicinal marijuana for young people with autism, a potential breakthrough that would offer relief for millions of afflicted children — and their anguished parents.

Because of the notorious, if not nefarious, American war on drugs irresponsibly focuses on the cannabis plant as a dangerous substance sans redeeming medical value, research here lags exponentially behind other nations — unnecessary red tape, regulations, laws, and restrictions make procuring clearance for scientific study a somewhat odious hurdle.

To wit, the Food and Drug Administration — which, incidentally, oversees the drug warriors of the DEA — has thus far only approved two antipsychotic pharmaceuticals for the treatment of symptoms of autism. Both of those come replete with a host of serious and untenable side effects — making the choice to treat a difficult one, at best.

Israeli researchers, unbound by the absurdities of the drug war, began a new study in January at the Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem, comprised of 120 children ranging in age from five to 29 years, who have been diagnosed with mild to severe autism.

Study participants are given one of two cannabis oil treatments or a placebo, drops of which can be mixed into a meal — none contain high levels of THC, the ingredient which gives users a ‘high.’

“Adi Aran, the pediatric neurologist leading the study, said nearly all the participants previously took antipsychotics and nearly half responded negatively. Yael desperately pushed Aran and other doctors to prescribe cannabis oil after a news report aired about a mother who illegally obtained it for her autistic son and said it was the only thing that helped him,” USA Today reports.

Myriad scientific studies and innumerable anecdotal cases have proven cannabis to treat everything from PTSD to ADHD, various cancers to the painful pressure of glaucoma — but the plant’s miraculous quality has been most apparent in treating severe seizures of childhood epilepsy.

Now, it appears, cannabis — specifically, the non-psychoactive compound, cannabidiol or CBD — may offer improved quality of life for children with autism, and the families providing their care.

“Many parents were asking for cannabis for their kids,” Aran told USA Today. “First I said, ‘No, there’s no data to support cannabis for autism, so we can’t give it to you.’”

Doubt quickly lifted, however, after multiple studies championed cannabis in the treatment of childhood epilepsy and in reducing the severity of symptoms of autism. Aran points out 30 percent of children with autism are also afflicted with epilepsy.

In an observational study, the doctor found 70 patients with autism experienced positive results from cannabis — so the clinical trial was launched for in-depth study.

Where Israel provides hope for families of children with various ailments with government-sponsored cannabis care, parents in the United States are forced to grapple with a patchwork of laws and regulations. Packing up a house of belongings to flee draconian marijuana laws for life-saving cannabis treatment has become commonplace to the point such families are now deemed, in all seriousness, medical refugees.

As long as cannabis prohibition remains in effect — an overwhelming likelihood, given the profiteering possible at every level of the system, from police departments to courts to for-profit prisons, and so on — children and adults will needlessly suffer without the healing powers of a substance that couldn’t get anyone high.

One-hundred-ten clinical trials of cannabis are currently underway in Israel — and although there may be many in the U.S., research primarily focuses on the treatment of addiction and related issues.

Should cannabis, specifically, CBD oil, prove its mettle in treating the symptoms of autism in children, it would behoove U.S. bureaucrats and drug warriors to pay attention and save lives — rather than standing tough on an anachronistic and harmful national policy.

Landmark Study: Pot Smoke Doesn’t Cause Strokes, But Tobacco Does and Weed Can Stop It

We know it may seem counter-intuitive to what we already know about tobacco, but a steady stream of scientific research is revealing some surprising conclusions about cannabis. The latest research, published on December 27th, 2016, indicates that marijuana use does not run the same risk of stroke that tobacco does.

The study used a sampling of 49,321 Swedish men, born between 1949 and 1951 and were conscripted to military service at the age of 18 and 20. Their medical health questionnaire, completed upon conscription, served as the baseline data for the soldiers. And since Sweden’s healthcare system is nationalized, the national database was accessed to compare initial conscription data with longitudinal health data decades later.

Stroke data was analyzed from the 49,321 participants. The researchers concluded, “We found no evident association between cannabis use in young adulthood and stroke, including strokes before 45 years of age. Tobacco smoking, however, showed a clear, dose–response shaped association with stroke.” The conclusions may be a surprise to some, but probably not to cannabis users, whom many consider marijuana to be a good medicine.

In one related double-blind study, cannabidiol (CBD) was demonstrated to have helped research study participants reduce the number of cigarettes smoked daily. The study was conducted using 24 smokers. Twelve smokers were given a CBD inhaler and told to inhale the substance whenever they felt the urge to smoke. They were also not prevented from smoking. The other 12 were given a placebo inhaler and told to do the same.

The results were promising. The group which received the CBD inhaler, reportedly smoked 40 percent fewer cigarettes weekly. CBD, which is oil derived from hemp, is arguably much safer than the Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) currently prescribed to some smokers who choose to quit. The SSRIs are required by the FDA to carry what is known as a “black box warning label” warning consumers of suicidal and homicidal ideations and actions. CBD, however, is all natural, and is apparently a threat to the DEA.

Just last month, in December of 2016, the DEA made the highly controversial move to classify CBD oil as a Schedule I narcotic along with heroin, and cocaine. Good luck getting high on CBD as it does not and cannot get anyone high. The disgusting move on the part of the enforcement wing of the drug war should be immediately reversed on the grounds the DEA is heavily influenced by Big Pharma and is not making a clear headed decision and certainly not one which is best for the American people.

The aforementioned research studies show promise, not only for users of marijuana to feel more comfortable about the use of their medicine, but also for smokers of tobacco, those who are the highest risk for stroke, cancer, and emphysema. According to the American Cancer Society, “Tobacco use kills more than 6 million people annually, 30 percent of whom will die from cancer-related diseases due to smoking. If current trends continue, tobacco use will kill 8 million people annually by 2030, 83 percent of whom reside in low- and middle-income countries.”

So, we at The Free Thought Project continually ask the common sense line of questioning. Why is tobacco legal and marijuana illegal? Why isn’t tobacco on the list of schedule I narcotics? Why, if after decades and decades of research on Tobacco, is it allowed for purchase in all 50 states by those 18 and older?

Of course, no one is advocating for outlawing a substance that makes people happy — regardless of the health effects — however, the hypocrisy in this scenario is rife.

The logic that marijuana needs to be criminalized and users kidnapped, caged, and some even killed in police raids, all smacks in the face of common sense. It’s about time that the government heeds the published research on the study, ends the war on marijuana, and declassifies CBD as a narcotic. Enough is enough and we’re fighting back with information. Thanks to the latest research studies, we once again have more than enough evidence to show that marijuana is not only safe, and healthy, but has the potential to help others quit lifelong bad habits such as smoking cigarettes.

UK Reclassifies CBD Oil as Medicine Just as America Puts It in Class With Heroin

After the DEA moved to further constrain Americans’ access to medically miraculous CBD oil by classifying it alongside heroin and cocaine, Britain chose compassion and common sense — and just classified cannabidiol (CBD) as a medicine.

On Monday, Britain’s Medicines & Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) decided CBD — which can treat illnesses and conditions from severe childhood epilepsy to autism to cancer — warranted the classification as a medicine based on credible evidence of its efficacy.

Thus, unlike in the U.S. — where the substance is now considered devoid of medical benefit by the DEA — CBD meeting quality and regulatory standards may be legally obtained by any British citizens who need it, reports High Times.

“We have come to the opinion that products containing cannabidiol (CBD) used for medical purposes are a medicine,” an MHRA spokesperson said in a statement on the agency’s website.

“Our primary concern is patient safety and we wish to reiterate that individuals using cannabidiol (CBD) products to treat or manage the symptoms of medical conditions should discuss their treatment with their doctor.

“MHRA will now work with individual companies and trade bodies in relation to making sure products containing CBD, used for a medical purpose, which can be classified as medicines, satisfy the legal requirements of the Human Medicines Regulations 2012.”

This rational approach stands in sharp and tragic contrast to draconian drug laws in the U.S., where, as of January 13, CBD oil — which does not contain the psychoactive chemical THC, which gives people a high — and all cannabinoids will be considered dangerous substances.

Healthcare and cannabis rights advocates have excoriated the DEA’s brash and baseless move, noting lives will now be in jeopardy.

“The whole policy around this plant is just so illogical,” Robert J. Capecchi, director of federal policies at the Marijuana Policy Project, told Vice. “Even when you look at the criteria you’re supposed to be looking at under the law, they’re just not following it. It’s just a stupid policy for lack of a better term.”

THC-containing cannabis — also medically beneficial for the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, among many other conditions — still remains as a Schedule I substance in the U.S., and is not considered medicine in Britain.

But the latter has taken steps in the right direction with the new classification for CBD — a complete reversal of cease and desist orders sent by MHRA to vendors only months ago, as High Times notes, ordering it to be “removed from sale in the UK.”

“The change really came about with us offering an opinion that CBD is in fact a medicine,” Gerald Heddel, director of inspection and enforcement at the agency, explained to Sky News, “and that opinion was based on the fact that we noted that people were making some quite stark claims about serious diseases that could be treated with CBD.”

Decades of government propaganda about the putative dangers of ‘marijuana’ — amplified exponentially by President Nixon’s administration’s agenda to, in essence, criminalize black people and the anti-war left — still linger in the stigmatization of all the cannabis plant’s myriad derivatives.

Despite the DEA’s war on cannabis and its users, onerous prohibition has been voted out in an increasing number of states — forcing those who need it to uproot their lives and move, in order not to face arrest over their medicine. Medical research into cannabis and cannabinoids continues to evince the miraculous assets the plant offers. In just one example, as High Times explains,

“In early December, researchers from the University of Alabama found that CBD oil reduces both the frequency and severity of seizures in children and adults with with severe, intractable epilepsy. In two-thirds of the 81 participants, the severity was reduced by at least 50 percent.”

In classifying CBD as medicine, MHRA recognizes such benefits — and the improved health of British citizens — eclipse the value in blindly continuing dangerous and inaccurate propaganda.

Sadly, the highly profitable war on drugs and influence of pharmaceutical corporations have the DEA feigning ignorance about cannabis and CBD — at the expense of people’s lives.

Cannabis Oil Gives Boy With Severe Autism His Speech — Tells Parents ‘I Love You’ for First Time

Kalel Santiago, a 3-year-old boy from Puerto Rico, was diagnosed with autism after suffering a rare form of cancer and undergoing chemotherapy, surgery and radiation treatments, starting when he was only 10 months old.

He had a severe speech delay, meaning that he did not speak at all until age 3.

“While he was in the hospital, we noticed he didn’t speak at all and had some behavior that wasn’t right, like hand flapping, and walking on his toes,” explained Kalel’s father Abiel Gomez Santiago to Yahoo News. “But we waited until he was 3 and cancer-free to look at his behavior.”

Kalel’s parents knew very little about autism at the time, and sought out a way to ensure that their child would be helped. They found measurable success from various schools and therapeutic techniques, including one that used surfing as a means of therapy.

After trying various methods, the Santiago family was made aware of Cannabidiol (CBD) oil as a non-psychoactive treatment for autism.

CBD is one of over a hundred cannabinoids present in cannabis. It can be used as an antitumoral, anti-inflammatory, antiemetic, anticonvulsant, anti-oxidant, anti-psychotic or anxiolytic.

When they were able to obtain CBD oil, Kalel was given small oral doses twice daily. In just 2 days, he began to speak.

“He surprised us in school by saying the vowels, A-E-I-O-U. It was the first time ever,” Abiel said. “You can’t imagine the emotion we had, hearing Kalel’s voice for the first time. It was amazing. The teacher recorded him and sent it to my wife and me and we said well, the only different thing we have been doing is using the CBD.”

“He said, ‘amo mi mama,’ ‘I love my mom,’” Abiel recalled. “I don’t know how to thank [those who made the CBD oil].”

The question remains, why does this plant remain criminalized while it is showing promise to help so many people? If we are to allow for advancements in science and medicine, we should not be swayed by special interest.

When will bureaucrats choose to step out of the way and allow the cannabis market to bring healing medicine to those who need it most?
