Pelosi ‘Slippery Slope’ Enthusiasm after Las Vegas Killings Exposes Old Gun-Grabber Lie

With so many lies it’s easy to get lost in them. (Nancy Pelosi live stream screen shot)

“House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said Thursday that she ‘certainly hopes’ a ban on ‘bump stocks’ will open the door to additional gun control actions,” Fox News Insider reports.

“They’re going to say, ‘You give them bump stock, it’s going to be a slippery slope.’ I certainly hope so,” Pelosi confirmed.

It’s part of a move to do more than demonize and ban “bump stocks” by Democrats, who will be happy take that if it’s given to them and then press on for more in their feeding frenzy to capitalize on the Las Vegas murders.  That has to be understood by the Republican “leadership, which nonetheless is signaling its willingness to join in throwing the novelty items under the bus now that the National Rifle Association has given them the green light. I talk about why I think that’s a terrible idea in my latest AmmoLand piece.

The curious thing about Pelosi invoking “slippery slope” language is it was not that long ago the gun-grabbers would ridicule gun owner rights advocates as paranoid if they suggested there was one.

Even though that’s been the plan from the start of the modern gun owner control movement:

“We’re going to have to take one step at a time, and the first step is necessarily — given the political realities — going to be very modest. . . . [W]e’ll have to start working again to strengthen that law, and then again to strengthen the next law, and maybe again and again. Right now, though, we’d be satisfied not with half a loaf but with a slice. Our ultimate goal — total control of handguns in the United States — is going to take time. . . . The first problem is to slow down the number of handguns being produced and sold in this country. The second problem is to get handguns registered. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and all handgun ammunition-except for the military, police, licensed security guards, licensed sporting clubs, and licensed gun collectors-totally illegal.  — Richard Harris, A Reporter at Large: Handguns, New Yorker, July 26, 1976, at 53, 58 (quoting Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc.)…”

I first addressed the “slippery slope/paranoid” accusations back in 2005:

  • “THE FEDERAL ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN IS JUST THE FIRST STEP ON A SLIPPERY SLOPE TO BAN ALL GUNS IN AMERICA ” — Response: Wrong. There is no hidden agenda behind saving the Federal Assault Weapons Act.”–The Brady Campaign

  • “Fearful of becoming enmeshed in the gun lobby’s ‘slippery slope’ argument (that any gun control, no matter how limited, is the first step toward total gun confiscation), many actively voiced their opposition to a handgun ban, warning that ban proponents would marginalize the entire movement. They could offer no proof of this claim—yet the argument took hold.”–Ban Handguns Now

  • “In this debate, it is the National Rifle Assn. that is the true purveyor of fiction. In its paranoid world, any measure to make you safer is the first step on the slippery slope to taking away its members’ rights.”–Richard North Patterson at Common Dreams

Admittedly, because so much time has elapsed, the embedded links at WarOnGuns no longer work. So don’t take my word for it that these people were and are demonstrable liars. Take oath-breaker Nancy’s:
