Remember Those Cops Who Beat A Guy On A United Airlines Plane? They’ve Been Fired!

drdao

The Chicago Department of Aviation has fired the two security officers who were involved in an incident in which a passenger was dragged off a United Airlines flight.   Four officers were involved in the event, which took place in April, at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport, after the man refused to give up his seat.

According to CBS News,  the department said in a statement Tuesday: “As we have clearly stated, the department is taking every action in our power to ensure that an incident like this never, ever occurs again.” The city’s Office of Inspector General said in a report released Tuesday that as a result of the office’s findings and recommendations, the Aviation Department fired an officer who “improperly escalated the incident” and a sergeant involved in removing facts from a report. The department also suspended the two other officers, and one of those officers resigned.

Below is a passenger’s video of Dao being taken off the plane. It may not be suitable for all viewers.

Back in April, passenger David Dao, who had been aboard a flight to Louisville, Kentucky, was forced to give up his seat against his will, and video showed the security guards dragging him down the aisle of a plane.  Dao’s attorney, Thomas Demetri, said it was unfortunate the employees lost their jobs.

Officials also stated that one of those officers, a sergeant, was part of an attempt to cover up the details of the incident.

Here’s how much you’re really paying for Trump’s trips to Mar-a-Lago

Financial records from the U.S. Air Force show that travel costs for just two of Donald Trump’s weekend jaunts to Mar-a-Lago, his beloved Palm Beach club, have reached nearly $1.3 million, according to the government accountability group Judicial Watch.

“According to the Air Force documents, the cost to operate Air Force One is $142,380 per hour,” the organization wrote in a press release. “The Air Force records show a total of nine hours for trips from Feb. 3 – 6 and March 3 – 6.”

The February trip racked up 4.7 hours of flight time to the tune of $669,186. The March trip, at 4.3 hours, cost $612,234, for a grand total of $1,281,420 — again, for only two trips.

Expenses aren’t incurred in the air, alone, of course. Judicial Watch contacted the Secret Service regarding financial numbers for on-the-ground expenses for these two trips, as well as for numbers on other trips taken by the president or VIPs in his administration. The agency has yet to respond.

These numbers also do not include expenses incurred during Trump’s visit with Chinese President Xi Jinping at Mar-a-Lago in April.

As Politico reminded readers back in February, long before entering office Donald Trump was highly critical of the luxurious manner in which Barack Obama and his family traveled and took vacations. The outlet highlighted the current president’s past attitude by pointing to tweets Trump wrote back in 2011.

“The habitual vacationer, @BarackObama, is now in Hawaii. This vacation is costing taxpayers $4 million +++ while there is 20% unemployment,” Trump tweeted in December of that year.

“President @BarackObama’s vacation is costing taxpayers millions of dollars — Unbelievable!” he posted a few days later.

It should be noted that Judicial Watch plays no favorites. Beginning in 2009, the organization tracked the travel expenses of President Barack Obama and arrived at a total of nearly 100 million taxpayer dollars spent in just eight years.

Video: American Airlines Employee Hits Mother, Challenges Passenger to Fight

(ZHEFor U.S. airlines’ public relations teams, April has been the cruelest month on record.

Less than two weeks after a 69-year-old doctor, David Dao, was hospitalized after Chicago aviation police dragged him from a United Airlines plane sparking international outrage and a public relations nightmare for the carrier, it is now American Airlines’ turn to be in the spotlight. The airline just suspended a male flight attendant after a video emerged showing him challenging a passenger to a fight after allegedly hitting a woman with a stroller during boarding.

The video, filmed before Flight 591 departed from San Francisco on Friday afternoon, shows the airline staff member goading a passenger and saying, ‘hit me.’

Facebook user Surain Adyanthaya, who recorded the incident, said he started filming after the flight attendant “violently took a stroller from a lady with her baby on my flight, hitting her and just missing the baby.” He added that “they just involuntarily escorted the mother and her kids off the flight and let the flight attendant back on, who tried to fight other passengers. The mom asked for an apology and the AA official declined.”

In his video, the woman with the child can be heard asking flight attendants for the stroller. A male passenger then walks towards the front of the plane and demands from the airline crew the name of the employee who took the stroller before he returns to his seat. Moments later, another American employee, who a spokeswoman confirmed was a flight attendant, enters the plane and the male passenger confronts him.

“You do that to me and I’ll knock you flat,” the passenger can be heard saying to the flight attendant.

The staff member responds by pointing his finger at the man and telling him to ‘stay out of it.’ The male passenger then steps closer to the employee, who challenges him to a fight.

“Try it,” the employee tells the customer. “Hit me. You don’t know what the story is.” “You almost hurt a baby!” the man is heard replying. The passenger eventually returns to his seat and the flight attendant leaves the plane.

Adyanthaya posted another photo on his Facebook page showing the woman with two young children – believed to be twins – in her arms; she was reportedly removed from the plane and the AA employee was permitted back on the plane.

Reuters adds that American Airlines was investigating Friday’s incident, which happened on Flight 591 from San Francisco to Dallas before the plane took off, an airline spokeswoman said. The incident started over a dispute as to whether the woman could bring her stroller on the flight, she said. Witnesses said the male flight attendant told the woman she could not keep the stroller at her seat in the rear of the plane, Tribune Media reported. They said she was trying to find space for it when the initial incident occurred.

Understandably, American scrambled to intercept this latest PR fiasco before it got out of hand, although it may be too late.

“We are deeply sorry for the pain we have caused this passenger and her family and to any other customers affected by the incident,” the airline said in a statement late on Friday. The woman and her family were being upgraded to first class for the remainder of their international trip, it said. It is doubtful whether this attempt to mollify the general public, angrier by the day at being treated like cattle by U.S. airlines (except for first class of course), will succeed.
