Is There A Link Between Dental Amalgams And Wi-Fi EMFs?

By Catherine J. Frompovich

One of the most unlikely and neurotoxic practices in public health and consumer healthcare modalities is the use of mercury in amalgam dental restorations, aka “silver fillings.”  The amount of mercury in dental amalgams is 50%!  When I was writing my 2009 book, Our Chemical Lives And The Hijacking of Our DNA, A Probe Into What’s Probably Making Us Sick,  I interviewed a holistic, non-amalgam, practicing dentist and got the lowdown on dental amalgams.  Here’s what I wrote about that in Our Chemical Lives… on page 240:

There are two 50 percent parts.  One part is 50% mercury; the other 50 percent part consists of copper, tin, silver, and zinc as a powder or shaving consistency.  That’s known as a eutectic mixture.  Now here’s the scary part, I think.  Silver fillings that have been in the mouth for a few years, when assayed, present a real mystery.  The mercury content is down to between 24 and 26 percent!  Recall that the original mercury content was 50 percent.  What’s happened to the missing mercury?  Half or more of the original mercury put into the silver filling is gone—missing in action.  What’s the action?  Chewing food or, perhaps, vaporizing.  To where?  I bet you can solve the mystery.  In a person’s body.

The toxicity problem with dental amalgams was recognized by European countries such as Denmark, Germany, Norway and Sweden, which have banned or restricted the use of ‘silver’ fillings.  Effective July 1, 2018, dental amalgams for children under fifteen years of age as well as pregnant and nursing women will be banned.   Additionally, the European Commission will require every EU member state (country) “to submit a plan of action by July 1, 2019, to reduce the overall use of dental amalgam fillings.” [1]

However, no such action has been taken by the U.S. CDC/FDA or American Dental Association, which consider dental amalgams ‘safe’ [2]!

In the meantime, a study was published July 13, 2016 [doi:  10.1186/s40201-016-0253-z] in the Journal of Environmental Health Science and Engineering titled Effect of radiofrequency radiation from Wi-Fi devices on mercury release from amalgam restorations,”  which had as the study’s Conclusion the following:

Exposure of patients with amalgam restorations to radiofrequency radiation emitted from conventional Wi-Fi devices can increase mercury release from amalgam restorations.

That was the first study performed on the effects of Wi-Fi exposure to the release of mercury from amalgam fillings.  Standard Wi-Fi devices operate at a radiofrequency of 2.4 GHz.

In the Discussion section of that study, we learn

Public concern about the possible adverse health effects of using Wi-Fi technology is increasing because of the widespread use of wireless communication systems [19]. In the present study, it was concluded that radiofrequency radiation emitted from Wi-Fi devices significantly increased mercury release from amalgam restorations. [3]

Furthermore, the study paper acknowledges Mercury is a toxic element which has adverse biological effects even at low doses [31],” something the U.S. medical establishment, dental and pharmaceutical and vaccine industries—plus federal public health agencies—don’t accept and/or believe!

How can other medical professionals and associations implement the Precautionary Principle and the U.S. doesn’t, or even care to?  Can it be that industry lobbyists are too entrenched in plying their trade with federal health agencies?

Since the above study’s researchers say further in vitro and in vivo studies are needed to confirm their findings, healthcare consumers ought to take note of what could be another adverse effect of electromagnetic frequencies (EMFs) and radiofrequencies (RFs) from microwaves such as those emitted by Wi-Fi.  I’d go out on a limb so far as to say any “smart” device which operates using microwave technologies should also be considered as probably capable of impacting amalgam fillings.

I can remember hearing stories about folks getting radio reception through their dental amalgam fillings.  If you don’t believe that, listen to Lucille Ball tell her story about how her teeth even picked up Morse code signals.

It may be wise for dental patients to consider ceramic restorations for any future dental work.  If you are thinking about amalgam removal, may I suggest you research it very carefully, as a lot of mercury is released during the process, so the dentist must know how to use the proper procedures [4] to protect patients from accelerated mercury releases.

I think as more and more microwave technology and smart gadgets that use Wi-Fi are introduced, consumers will find how much they will be impacting their health negatively, especially for young children who are more vulnerable to microwaves [5, 6, 8].

Something many microwave energy users fail to realize is that cataracts of the eyes can and may be impacted [7]. Microwaves also accelerate formation of cataracts due to diabetes [10].  Wi-Fi sends out microwaves which saturate an area.

Pacemakers can be affected by microwave electrical interferences.

Lloyd’s of London understands the dangers of Wi-Fi radiation [9]

This decision is important because Lloyd’s of London, one of the largest insurance companies in the world, often leads the way in protection by taking on risks that no one else will. But, the decision is not surprising because Lloyd’s refused to cover mobile phone manufacturers against risks to users’ health more than a decade ago in 1999.

What (exactly) are the risks associated with Wi-Fi radiation?

In 2011, the World Health Organization designated radio frequency radiation of the type emitted by Wi-Fi devices to be a ‘class 2B possible human carcinogen.’ Many independent experts now think this classification downplays the significant dangers posed by wireless technology – especially when you consider the thousands of peer-reviewed, non-industry funded studies by scientists and medical experts that show that Wi-Fi radiation is harmful, especially to children.

Here’s the undeniable scientific fact about microwaves: Microwaves act on living tissue through two types of mechanisms, thermal and nonthermal [10].

If the above doesn’t make for angst about Wi-Fi and microwave technologies, look what’s just been identified in the tech world: Severe WiFi security flaws puts millions of devices at risk.”

Researchers have discovered a key flaw in the WPA2 WiFi encryption protocol that could allow hackers to intercept your credit card numbers, passwords, photos and other sensitive information. The flaws, dubbed “Key Reinstallation Attacks,” or “Krack Attacks,” are in the WiFi standard and not specific products. That means that just about every router, smartphone and PC out there could be impacted, though attacks against Linux and Android 6.0 or greater devices may be “particularly devastating,” according to KU Leuven University’s Mathy Vanhoef and Frank Piessens, who found the flaw.

It seems personal and security information, data and health safety are not particular concerns to those who create, manufacture and implement microwave technologies.  What I can’t quite understand is how come so many people are willing to use a product or technology that actually hurts consumers in more ways than they even realize.
