Multiple injuries as man goes on rampage with chainsaw in Switzerland

At least 5 people have been injured after a man went on the rampage with a chainsaw in the Swiss city of Schaffhausen, according to police.

A person on the scene told Westmonster police drove past in a van then jumped out and shouted at everyone to get inside and lock the doors because a man with a chainsaw was inside a local book store.

The witness said helicopters are currently circling overhead and the incident is believed to have taken place in the offices of CSS Health Insurance in the city centre – it shares an office with the book store.

Armed police have put the entire city centre into lockdown – the man is still at large and 2 people are in a critical condition and undergoing surgery. An old man was seen with a wound on his head.

Police said: “A man armed with a chainsaw arrived at a property on Vorstadt [Street] in Schaffhausen and injured several persons there.

“The man injured several people, two of whom were serious. The people have been taken to hospital care.”

But police have said it’s ‘not a terror attack’…They described the man as ‘unkempt’ and ‘bald’, adding that he escaped in a VW Caddy.

This is an image of the alleged attacker released by police, according to local news agencies – police say they’ve found his escape car but not the man himself.

Air ambulances are on the scene taking the wounded to hospital.

“We have a special situation, our forces are out there,” said police spokeswoman Cindy Beer.
