The book and upcoming series are heavily influenced by the deep state, and the globalist oligarchs... Criminal slavery, depopulation, and social disintegration are all explicit themes:
Real life “Shadows” are being created by the hundreds of thousands in modern society to serve the criminal interests of emerging types of organized crime. This new breed of organized crime operates like a secret society, but unlike powerful (but now crippled) criminal secret societies of the past like the KKK and Mafia, this new organization has been created by criminal elements within the Deep State a.k.a. the military-industrial complex. The intelligence agencies have a long history of manipulating and controlling the mass media, movies, and literature - starting with Project Mockingbird and only growing more pervasive and complex in subsequent decades.
Their aim is to advance their budgets, power, and wealth for the benefit of themselves and their leaders, in what a former USA president has recently called, the American Oligarchy. They are looking to gain total control over society by applying new weapons and techniques to terrorize and subjugate Americans by the millions. A major goal of their strategy is creating armies of expendable henchmen, that they can deny association with, to use for criminal terror tactics against the civilian populace, such as, gang-stalking a.k.a. COINTELPRO / Zersetzung. The targeted individual themes are strong as well in the book and series. Shadow is manipulated and subjugated with tactics commonly used on targeted individuals: modulated dreams, synthetuc emotions, and the manipulation of his televisiom programming to "wow" and win over the potential criminal slave.
Do not fall prey to the insidious theme presented in American Gods. Those that are manipulated into choosing the path of Shadow do not lead an amazing life as the book hints. Life is cruel, brutish, and often short for such henchmen, or gang stalkers. Furthermore, their handlers – the false gods – have no qualms about sacrificing them.
