WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB) — President Donald Trump hit it out of the park Tuesday night with his first joint address to Congress.
Looking lively, the President of the United States (POTUS) took the podium around 9:08 p.m. and stood in front of Vice President Mike Pence and the Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, both of whom wore matching blue neckties, where President Trump delivered a home run in the House Chamber.

For all to hear, the commander-in-chief outlined his agenda which seemed to be well-received by a good portion of lawmakers.
Rep. Mike Bost (R-IL) said that he really appreciated key areas that the president focused on in his joint address and said that he is “hopeful that both parties can find areas of common ground moving forward to achieve this positive, pro-growth agenda.”
Others, including V.P. Pence, also took note of the president’s enthusiasm.

Sen. David Perdue (R-GA) said, “President Trump has hit the ground running and is keeping his promises to the American people. He has put the needs of Americans first and the results he’s already achieved have brought forward a renewed spirit of optimism in our country.”
However, although President Trump’s speech was a hit amongst many, statistics show that it paled in comparison to Obama’s first joint address back in 2009.
In terms of ratings, according to Variety:
Across seven networks — ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, CNN, Fox News, and MSNBC — Trump’s speech notched a 27.8 household rating in those early ratings. Across these same networks, President Obama’s first address of a joint session of Congress on Feb. 24, 2009, drew an overnight household rating of 33.4, a difference of about 17%.
Fox News drew the biggest household rating of these networks, with a 6.4. It was followed by NBC (5.5), CBS (4.6), ABC (4.0), CNN (3.0), Fox Broadcasting (2.3), and MSNBC (2.0).
But despite the numbers, critics, including hosts at CNN, admit Trump’s speech was well-written and on point.
An emotional highlight of the speech came when President Trump honored a fallen Navy Seal Chief Petty Officer William “Ryan” Owens.

“Ryan died as he lived: a warrior, and a hero — battling against terrorism and securing our nation,” the POTUS said.
The president’s statement garnered over a two-minute standing ovation from the crowd inside the House Chamber as the hero’s widow, Carryn, burst into tears while sitting next to Ivanka Trump.

Trump then said directly to Carryn, “Ryan is looking down, right now, and you know that, and he is very happy because I think he just broke a record.”
